How are obituaries submitted?
Obituaries should be submitted through your
funeral director, who is an expert in helping
families compose obituaries that celebrate the
life of the deceased. If the body of the deceased
is donated to science and the funeral home is
not handling the arrangements, the newspaper
will accept obituaries directly from the family.
Can photographs or insignias
be included?
Yes. Photographs may be included
in the obituary. Insignias and emblems of
affiliations can also be included to further
personalize your notice.
St. Petersburg Times obituaries not only notify the community
of the passing of one of its own, but also can help celebrate
the life of a recently departed family member.
How do we provide photos?
Photographs may be e-mailed as a
jpeg attachment to obits@sptimes.com.
Photo prints can be delivered to the
front counter at a Times regional office or
mailed to the attention of the Funeral Desk.

What information should be included?
Obituaries should contain basic factual
information including:
v Name, age, city, state
and date of death
What is the deadline?
The deadline for families placing an
Obituary, Memorial or Card of Thanks,
is 1:00 p.m. the day before the notice
is to appear. Obituaries submitted by families
directly to the Times are accepted on a
pre-paid basis and must be accompanied
by verification such as a death certificate.

Your funeral director will assist you with the placement of your notice. If you are handling
the details yourself, your obituary and photograph can be sent via e-mail to obits@sptimes.com
for placement. A representative will contact you to confirm the text and to establish the
payment method.
Memorials & Tributes and Card of Thanks Notices publish on the obituary page to
remember the departed. These notices allow families to honor or memorialize their loved
ones or offer a venue for family members to publicly share their appreciation to a group
or organization.
Obituary Notice Rates
Minimum number of lines of text is five. First seven lines are free on the first day only, and notice
should include the name, age, city & state, date of death and the name of the funeral home.
These notices are $10 per line per day with a five-line minimum. Photographs can be added
for an additional $50 per photo per day. Emblems and insignias may be included and are
charged only for the space that is used. Contact the Times Obituary Desk 727-893-8518

Additional lines (8 lines or more): $10 per line, per day
Additional days beyond the first day of the notice will be charged at $10 per line from the
first line. Notices placed for additional days must contain the same text as the original notice.
Photographs: $50 per photo per day. Emblems & insignias are billed based on space used in the
obituary and average 3-4 lines in depth. There are approximately 6 words or 31 characters per line,
including space & punctuation. Acceptable abbreviations are limited to states and countries only.

obituary that appears in the newspaper on

it will remain for 30 days.
