Founded in 1995, the San Antonio Children’s Museum (SACM) is the city’s only museum exclusively devoted to children
under age 10. With three floors of interactive exhibits and a variety of early literacy, science, health and art activities,
SACM’s vision is to be a premier educational resource that helps develop innovative thinkers capable of meeting the
challenges of the 21st century.
The Museum is in a rapid expansion phase, with plans to open a state-of-the-art new facility in Spring/Summer 2015.
SACM is committed to being a city-wide resource in early childhood education. To do that, we help children develop
essential foundational and critical thinking skills, encourage children and families to connect in meaningful ways and
provide professional resources to schools and educators.
Position Overview, Responsibilities, and Attributes
Reporting to the Guest Service & Retail Manager, Guest Ambassadors are responsible for welcoming all guests entering
and experiencing the museum, interacting with guests to optimize their experience, and ensuring guest safety
throughout the museum. Guests Ambassadors process all sales in the museum. Guest Ambassadors will present a
positive image of the museum, provide high quality service, take pride and ownership in the museum, and deliver
outstanding service to every guest who comes through our doors. In addition, Guest Ambassadors will perform the
following functions:










Provides exceptional service through extensive face-to-face contact with museum guests. Remains approachable at
all times to visitors, staff and volunteers. Monitors for guests who may need assistance and takes appropriate action
as needed
Efficiently operates the organization’s point-of-sale system; process sales, including admission, group visits, gift
shop, membership, and birthday sales. Actively markets museum promotions and actively sell museum
memberships to guests
Remains knowledgeable of operational procedures and museum information. Keeps self updated with the proper
resources to maintain excellent product knowledge in order to best assist the museum visitors. Delivers exceptional
service when assisting customers with purchases, membership assistance, Birthday Parties, visit planning and other
needs
Completes data entry for membership and projects as assigned with accuracy and efficiency, following established
data entry and privacy standards
Responsible for accurate opening and closing of registers and balancing cash drawer. Follows proper cash handling
procedures at all times
Provides assistance in opening and closing of museum, maintaining a clean museum and is cross-utilized when
needed
Assists to maintain, clean and restock the museum gift shop, as needed
Maintains smooth museum floor operations for enjoyment and safety of all museum guests
Works within a cohesive team of staff in an open, public space. Constantly promotes a positive team environment
and works to establish and maintain open communication among the team

Mandatory and Ideal Candidate Qualifications
As a prerequisite, the successful candidate must believe in SACM’s core values and be driven by the mission. S/he will
be high energy, self-motivated, collaborative, creative, detailed, thorough and confident; and will be a leader of the
highest integrity, embracing a diverse workplace and customer base.











Must be able to complete job assignments with minimal supervision and juggle multiple job priorities
simultaneously
Must be able to work with a large number of children / parents / chaperones / teachers visiting the museum on
field trips, group settings, etc.
Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Must take pride in your presentation and appearance
Must have proven experience in customer service, retail, or sales; and be able to demonstrate examples of
success or achievement within that experience
Must have experience with cash handling in a heavy traffic situation and possess the skills for accurately
accounting for those moneys
Must acknowledge the importance of security of cash and other moneys, and the systems in place to monitor
that security
Must possess the skills to effectively and efficiently handle customer questions and concerns with the
appropriate managers
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and monthly staff meetings
Ideal candidate will be fluent in Spanish, including the ability to read, write, and communicate with guests
Must be able to work in small spaces, stand for long periods of time, be able to lift 20 lbs., climb stairs, and bend
