Advent & Christmas: A Season of Giving
The Advent/Christmas Season is a season of both giving and receiving gifts set in motion
by the gift of God in Jesus Christ. Open your heart and share the gift of Christmas with
someone less fortunate. At Forrest Burdette, we are offering a variety of ways to reach out
to others this season.
Angel Tree: Thanks to everyone who took an Angel from the Angel Tree in the narthex. Through the WV
Department of Health & Human Resources, we were able to “adopt” 75 children, providing clothes and toys.
Mitten, Sock, Hat, Underwear Tree: After all the Angels are gone from the Angel tree, you are invited to decorate
the tree with mittens, socks, hats, and underwear to be distributed to local school children to help keep them warm
during the cold winter months.
Candle for Missions: Beginning November 30, the 1st Sunday in Advent, we will keep a candle burning on the
Communion Table for missions. For each dollar donated, the candle will remain lit one hour. This year, the
candle donations will be used for Back Pack Buddies, providing meals for school children on the weekends.
Let’s keep the candle burning during Advent and the twelve days of Christmas.
Back Pack Buddies: Remember to bring non-perishable single-serving breakfast, entrees, snacks, or drinks which
provide meals for 63 school children on the weekends.
UMC #Giving Tuesday, December 2: United Methodists are once again invited to start the Advent season by
supporting ministries or missionaries that have been researched and approved by the United Methodist General
Board of Global Ministries. Every gift made online through The Advance at www.umcmission.org/give will be
matched up to $1 million. Last year $6.5 million was raised to support mission work here and around the world.
Community Cupboard: Remember to bring canned goods for individuals and families in need when you come to
Sunday School and Worship on December 7 or to the Christmas Dinner and Children’s Program.
Christmas Baskets: Sunday School classes are providing Christmas meals for 22 families. Children’s quilts are
being provided by the Young at Heart Quilters.
Christmas Eve Offering for Good Samaritan Fund: Unless designated otherwise, the Christmas Eve offering is
directed for the Good Samaritan Fund. This fund provides temporary assistance to those in the Hurricane area.

Uth Ministry: Coer t Voorhees
Uth: Students between 6 th-12th grades unite from 6-8 p.m.
on Wednesdays in the basement of the church to hang out,
bond with friends, eat snacks, play games, and worship
God through music, God’s Word, and small groups. Don’t
miss out! No Uth on December 24th & 31st.
Sunday Night Group (S.N.G.): Sunday Night Group is a
time for Uth to grow deeper with God. We have 4 groups
from 4:30-6 p.m. that meet in the basement:
G.L.A.M. – High School Girls (Sister freaks)
Dusty Men – High School Boys
S.W.A.G. – Middle School Boys (Old Testament)
L.O.L. – Middle School Girls (Talk sheets)
We have incredible leaders that will give each of
these students an opportunity to connect with God
and to feel comfortable to ask questions. If you have more
questions, please don’t hesitate to ask Coert.
Progressive Dinner: Dec. 17—As a youth group, we
attend 3 different homes around town for our 3 course
meal. This is a time as a group to celebrate Christmas.
Please bring a fun gift under $10. This event is FREE!
Visiting Broadmore: On Dec. 21, we are going to visit
Broadmore. We will sing carols as a group and hand
out ornaments. Join us during the Sunday school hour!
Save the Date for Winter Jam: January 2, 2015!
Soup Kitchen: The soup kitchen takes place every 3rd
Saturday of every month. This is open to all ages;
anybody can go, but we highly encourage our Uth
to go and serve West Virginia! We meet at the
church, leave at 10 a.m., and head down to
Huntington to a local salvation army and serve
food, sing songs, and get personal with those who
extremely need love.

Sanctuary on Sunday, December 21, for Worship Services.
