Freshmen Continue to Contribute
UCLA’s freshman class has proven to be valuable this
season with five true freshmen contributing substantial
minutes in the regular season. The rookie attackers have
been sensational with Seyi Adekoya leading the way
with five goals and four assists followed by Abu Danladi
with four goals and one assist. Also pitching in a goal,
Christian Chavez has been a dangerous member of
the Bruins frontline as well. Left back Chase Gasper has
proven to be a stalwart in the defensive group, playing
15 games (11 starts), while pitching in three assists
and William Cline has been an important player in the
midfield playing 13 games (one start) as well.
Looking Ahead
The Bruins are in the midst of their 32nd straight NCAA
Tournament appearance and 42nd appearance overall.
A team should never look ahead, but if the Bruins were
to come away victorious this weekend, they would
face the winner of California and Southern IllinoisEdwardsville. UCLA holds a 3-0 postseason record over
the Golden Bears and they have never faced Southern
Illinois-Edwardsville in postseason play.

Former UCLA All-American Jorge Salcedo
is in his 11th season as head coach for the
Bruins, making him the second-longest
tenured men’s soccer head coach in
UCLA’s NCAA history.
A product of UCLA’s strong soccer tradition, Salcedo has maintained the Bruins’
standard for success, winning six conference titles and guiding his teams to NCAA
Tournament appearances each year. He
signed the No. 1 recruiting classes in the
nation in 2010, 2006 and 2004, and those
players produced results, advancing all
the way to the NCAA Championship
game in the 2006 season, to the quarterfinals in 2009 and 2010, and to the College
Cup Semifinals in 2011. Salcedo then
repeated the feat, signing the top-ranked
recruiting classes in both 2013 and 2014.
