The chapter has immense experience in conducting NDT Level-II certification courses, national seminars and tutorials covering various NDE techniques, over several years. The chapter has also won the best chapter award in the year 2002 and 2012 in recognition of its activities. In furthering the quest for excellence in current technology and in achieving our objective to impart quality education and knowledge to persons working in the field of NDE, the chapter is conducting a one day workshop in Phased array Ultrasonic testing in the field of Ultrasonic testing. The classes will be handled by well experienced and qualified persons working specifically in Phased array technology in aerospace and medical field, with hands on experience in their respective areas. Practical demonstration with one of the latest phased array Ultrasonic testing machine will also be part of the workshop. PHASED ARRAY ULTRASONIC TESTING Many people are familiar with the medical applications of ultrasonic imaging/ ultrasound, in which high frequency sound waves are used to create highly detailed cross-sectional pictures of internal organs. This is done by specialized multi-element transducers known as phased arrays and their accompanying hardware and software. The applications of ultrasonic phased array technology are not limited to medical diagnosis. In recent years, phased array systems have seen increased use in industrial settings to provide new construction and maintenance, structural metals, and general manufacturing. Phased arrays can also be effectively used to profile remaining wall thickness in corrosion survey applications. GENERAL CONDITIONS 1.Engineers, scientists, Engineering diploma graduates and technicians in the area of NDE, aerospace, manufacturing, materials will benefit from this workshop. levels of information and visualization compared to conventional UT. Conventional ultrasonic transducers for NDT commonly consist of either a single active element that both generates and receives high frequency sound waves, or two paired elements, one each for transmitting and receiving. Phased array probes, on the other hand, typically consist of a transducer assembly ranging from 16 to as many as 256 small individual elements that can each be pulsed separately. This concept of multi-crystal probe, enables various features like • Simultaneous multi angle scanning • Beam focusing • Dynamic depth focusing • Electronic scanning without probe movement. • Beam profile control Ultrasonic phased array systems can potentially be employed in almost any test where conventional ultrasonic flaw detectors have traditionally been used. Weld inspection and crack detection are the most important applications, and these tests are done across a wide range of industries including aerospace, power generation, petrochemical, metal billet and tubular goods suppliers, pipeline 2. The candidates attending the workshop should send the filled in registration form before the due date. The registration is done on a first come first served basis. FEE The fee for the workshop is Rs. 2500. Limited seats will be provided to students on a first come first served basis for Rs. 1500. The course fee includes course material, lunch and refreshments.
