Background
It has been 10 years after the big Tsunami in Aceh in 2004. It was one of
the deadliest disaster in Indonesian history. We still remember, how was the
devastating tsunami which was happened on 26 December 2004 at 07.58 WIB: an
earthquake with magnitude 8,9 SR in Indian Ocean, 66 km west coast of Aceh and
followed by a big tsunami with waves up to 12 meters, with the wave speed up to 500900 km per hour.
Tsunami aceh has destroyed infrastructures, houses and buidings. It has not only ruin
the buildings only, but it also caused hundred thousand people killed, injured and lost.
While, the other hundred thousand people displaced. It was a big tragedy in indonesian
history, even the Tsunami was not the first Tsunami which happened in Indonesia.
1
Before Tsunami Aceh, there was a tsunami happened in 1861 and 1907. But only after
the tsunami aceh 2004, we aware to the importance of disaster management.
Tsunami aceh in 2004 was the tsunami with the longest cracked in the world history.
The length of ruptured under sea which being a source of earthquake and tsunami is
about 1600 km. Hiro Kanamori et al. In their paper with the title “Historical seismograms
for unraveling a mysterious earthquake: The 1907 Sumatra Earthquake”, did not
mention the length of ruptured, but they wrote the similarity between tsunami 1907 and
tsunami Nias 2005 and earthquake on November 2002. But because the limitation of
the equipment, so the length of the ruptured was not clear. Based on that similarity can
be concluded that the lenght of ruptured tsunami Nias in 2005 is shorter than ruptured in
tsunami Aceh 2004 (Hiro Kanamori et al. 2004).
During the acute phase of the Tsunami, Faculty of Medicine UGM and Sardjito Hospital
has dispatched a medical assistance team which arrived in Meulaboh, the South West
area of Aceh Province Tsunami in 2004. This activities was conducted for 4 years and
