Black Tie Events’ Mark Girdwood was there when it all started in the mid 70’s,
DJing the inner Melbourne Pubs and Clubs after taking a break from his audio
career at HSV 7, where he’d been working on variety TV shows and drama.
In the early 80s, Mark branched into commercial radio broadening his skills
working both on air and programming music. Mark’s 15 year on air radio career
included, amongst other great radio stations, Melbourne’s Hot Hit 3XY.

One question often asked is how much? Are we the cheapest? Our own
market research tells us the answer is NO.
A large number of DJ’s are single, part-time operators normally specialising in Techno, Club and House etc. Dealings are usually cash only!
When it comes to a wedding they have little or no idea. We are a
professional, full time company with several full time staff and we specialise in wedding entertainment.
We also take pride in ensuring your special day runs smoothly.
We prefer to be your Master of Ceremonies and your DJ. This way we can co-ordinate all of your requirements and blend them with the requirements of your reception venue.
All of our Wedding Packages include this service and consequently there is no hidden extra charge.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION
Please note that all Packages are quoted as a minimum rate. There
are no reductions for requirements of shorter time periods.
For example, you may have a wedding reception that is 4½ hours or a Trivia Show
for 2 hours. No reduction applies from the 5-hour wedding package, or the 3-hour
Trivia Show.
ALL Packages are timed from the start of your function - normally pre dinner
drinks. It is our professional responsibility to be set up 30 minutes prior to this
time. If you are not engaging us for any activities until later in the function programme, your package time is still calculated from the start of your function. A deposit is required in order to confirm your booking. This deposit is non-refundable.
Your confirmed booking will remain at the price quoted despite any interim price
increases that may occur. (Excluding Government, Local & Statutory levies and
taxes)
You will be required to provide one meal for each Black Tie Events Australia person
carrying out your function. This may not necessarily be more than the main course
but provision should be made so that the course(s) is served at a time that does
not conflict with our entertainment duties.
The time and procedures required for loading in / out of equipment at some venues far exceeds normal access routines. Unfortunately performing at these venues
may attract a surcharge. You will be advised at the time of enquiry / booking.

If you book one of our packages, we can also provide the music for your
Wedding Ceremony at a cost-effective price. The only provisos that we must
make are:
• The ceremony is held within the grounds of your reception venue
• There is a power supply within 10m of the equipment site
• In case of inclement weather, there is ample shelter for the equipment
• If your reception venue has an adequate audio / CD system installed we
will normally use this.

Are you having your service outside? Will your celebrant be heard? For a
small additional fee (see Appendix) we can provide a radio microphone
linked to our system so that all can hear.

For Breakfast and Lunchtime Weddings we would suggest our “Honeymoon
Package”. This package does NOT include any lighting and to qualify the

Puffing Billy. In fact we are here to help wherever you decide to tie the

SPECIAL EFFECTS ONLY PACKAGE
$748.00 GST Inclusive
If you have a preference for live music, but would still like some special
effects to create a memorable photographic moment, then this package
may well be what you are after.
INCLUSIONS
• Dry Ice – As you make your way
onto the dancefloor for your Bridal
Waltz, dry ice is filtered out at ground
level. This effect usually lasts for
approximately 4 min. satisfying the
length of the normal song. With this
package, we supply 3 x 2.5kg blocks
of dry ice.
• Special FX Light - As most bands
/ duos etc do not provide lighting,
we will supply one Special FX light.
This will be shone at floor level for
the duration of the Bridal Waltz to
enhance the appearance and effect
of the dry ice. Please note that there
is no price reduction if the lighting is
not required.
Important - Your venue must approve of the use of these special effects. It
is your responsibility to check before you book. Sometimes dry ice can form
a thin film, especially on highly polished surfaces and it is important that we
are able to prepare the area for the next set of dancing.
LARGE FUNCTIONS
Our 600-watt system is more than adequate for the majority of wedding
receptions of up to 250 people. Functions over this number may require
your consideration of upgrading to a 1200-watt system. Please see the
appendix for recommendations.

IDEAS FOR ENHANCING
YOUR SPECIAL OCCATION
(ALL OF THESE IDEAS ARE DISCUSSED IN DETAIL AT YOUR APPOINTMENT)
ENTRANCE SONG - Choose a song for the start of your reception that
will signify the continuing celebrations. A song that creates a vibrant entry
encouraging guests to sing and applaud as you make your way to the Bridal
Table.
MUSICAL CUES FOR SPEECHES - Not everyone looks forward to this part
of the reception, especially the speakers! Add some humour and relieve the
pressure on those in the speech line-up by introducing some appropriate
musical cues. Here are some suggestions:
Father of the Bride: Big Spender / Smooth Operator / Don’t Worry Be Happy
Father of the Groom: Macho Man / Smooth / Always Look On The Bright Side
Bride: Chains / Pretty Woman / I Am Woman

Music cues can only be provided if our equipment / microphone are being
used for the speeches. If you have chosen a package that includes two Black
Tie Events Australia personnel, there is normally no restriction to providing
cues.
FAREWELL SONG: The reception draws to a close, the bouquet has been
thrown, the garter removed and you have said goodbye to the guests. Have
the last word by choosing an exit song as you rush off to your honeymoon,
and leave the guests singing a tune that they will associate with your
departure.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: You are welcome to supply some of your own CD’s.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR APPOINTMENT: With the
soaring cost of fuel, volume of traffic on the roads and the expanding city
boundaries, we reserve the right to schedule the appointment during
daylight hours on a weekend.

QUALITY SERVICES
Special effects and services outlined in the packages are as follows:
Master Of Ceremonies - to allow your reception to be run in a professional manner
we offer an MC who will co-ordinate your function from a central point, our standard
packages offer a combination (single person) MC and DJ. You may wish to consider a
“Plus Packages” upgrade to include two people at your function, a Master Of Ceremonies,
and a Black Tie DJ. This gives you the additional benefits of:
• Individual introduction of guests if required.
• Musical cues for the introduction of the Bridal Party.
• Musical cues for speeches.
• Co-ordinate proceedings in the case of visual obstructions, off-centre dancefloors
and / or awkwardly shaped rooms.
• Enable the MC to host the evening from a central point and co-ordinate with the venue.
Dry Ice - As the Bride and Groom make their way onto the dancefloor for their Bridal
Waltz the Dry Ice is filtered out at ground level for the duration of the Bridal Waltz.
Benefits include a photographic opportunity and the concealment of your feet! This is
usually very popular with the Bridegroom. For Function Centres where Dry Ice is not
advisable, we offer Scented Smoke. Depending on the dancefloor surface, dry ice can
produce a thin moisture film. We will notify guests of this in our welcome address.
For more photographic opportunities and maximum effect, we suggest that the bride
and groom dance alone for the whole of their first bridal waltz. Air conditioning, open
doors and windows and excessive body movement will have an effect on the stability of
the dry ice.
Pyrotechnics - With a dramatic increase in insurance costs, the use of pyrotechnics has
been discontinued until further notice.
Special FX Lighting - Our lights give an effect of pastel rays shining down on the
dancefloor. Some lights include a variety of designs. Lighting is very effective when the
pastel colours beam through the white Dry Ice for the bridal waltz. Lighting will create
a fantastic atmosphere for the rest of the evening as guests’ dance the night away. Our
lighting is subtle, does not flash in the eyes of your guests and will create a designated
dancing area. Very appropriate for weddings which we do not treat as “discos”.

Cake Cutting Ceremony (optional) - many people do not know the main reason why the
Bride and Groom cut the cake. Its tradition stems back to ancient times. We will guide
you through the ceremony whilst informing the guests of history and tradition. We can
adapt the ceremony to suit your own personal circumstances and we even provide you
with a commemorative script.
“Plus Packages” - Introduce flexibility to our standard packages. With our “Plus” packages
you get a Master of Ceremonies AND a Black Tie Disc Jockey. This combination is especially
useful where the venue has no inhouse audio system, awkwardly shaped rooms, visual
obstructions or the dancefloor or stage is not in a central point. Additional benefits are
outlined in our “Supplementary Information”
Extra Hours - you may request the Compere/MC to extend beyond the times specified
in the packages at an additional cost of $66.00 ($60.00 + $6.00 GST) per hour or part
thereof until 0100hrs and then at $132.00 ($120.00 + $12.00 GST) per hour or part
thereof. Your venue must agree to the extension. Payment must be made in cash before
the extension begins.
Music Request Cards - We aim to satisfy the music requirements of your guests. As long
as their choice is appropriate to your function, we will endeavour to play the songs that
are requested. We encourage early return of the requests to enable us to “bracket” the
styles of request.
Lettergram Cards - We provide these for weddings and we always seek your permission
for guests to fill them in. We will of course collect the cards and pass them to the person
designated to “censor” and read them out.
Wedding Guest Book - Where included, we will provide one of our own wedding guest
books. This will be delivered to your reception by your DJ / MC and circulated around
the guests.
GST - GST @ 10% is included in our prices. GST is payable at the rate current on the date
of your function.
Credit Cards - To avoid higher prices, we do not accept payments by credit card except
for payment of a deposit.
