General Information
Resident and Non-Resident
A resident is defined as a person who has a physical address within the City
limits; or an owner of property within the City limits. Verification in the form of
a valid Texas driver’s license or tax assessment showing property ownership.
Residents will have registration priority. Non-resident registration starts after
the resident start date and is displayed in the PLAYbook as the date within the
parenthesis. The non-resident cost for programs, facilities, and events is 25%
more than the resident.
Youth Program Scholarships
Limited financial assistance for youth programs and activities is available to
families that substantiate a need. Application forms are available at the C. K. Ray
Recreation Center, Aquatic Center and Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center.
Park Bucks Gift Certificates
Park Bucks are a way for individuals to give the gift of parks and recreation. Park
Bucks are available in $10, $20, and $50 increments. Parks Bucks can be used
for memberships, program enrollment or facility rental. Park Bucks never expire.
Discounts
In situations of multiple discount opportunities (i.e.- program scholarship, special
offer), only one discount may be applied

$5 per person is charged for registering after the scheduled registration dates.
All classes/leagues must have a minimum number of students/teams in order
to be held. The Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel,
combine, change times, dates, or make any revisions which may be necessary.
Should a cancellation or change occur, every effort will be made to contact all
students/teams enrolled.
Program & Membership Refunds
No questions asked, money-back guarantee if a participant is not happy with
a program, rental, or membership. Refunds will be processed via check and
mailed within thirty days of acknowledgement. A credit may be issued in lieu of
a refund. A credit will be kept on file for one year.

Adopt-A-Park
An Organization/Citizen may choose to
Adopt-A-Park, Trail or Street Median.
Tasks may include trash pickup, graffiti reporting, weeding/raking playgrounds, sweeping shelters, cleaning
picnic tables, mulching trees/shrubs,
restocking doggie bags and reporting
vandalism. Adopters can also help
with special projects, such as graffiti
cover-up, painting projects and planting flowers. Call 936.522.3842.
Park Pavilion
Reservations
Athletic Field Reservations
Team managers may reserve one field on a monthly basis on the 15th of each month,
for the next month, starting January 15th. A second date will be available on the
22nd of each month. If the 15th or the 22nd are a Saturday or Sunday, Monday shall
be used to schedule. Follow these easy steps to reserve your field:

Sell your treasures! Reserve your booth August 4 through
October 17. A 10’x10’ space costs $25 and a 10’x20’ is $40,
maximum of four spaces per vendor. A $5 booth discount is
available by donating five canned food items at the time of
registration. Food items may not be sold without a current
health permit. Unsold garage sale items can be donated on site
to Montgomery County Emergency Assistance. Admission

Rules and Guidelines
• Swimsuits only. No shirts, Athletic shorts, undergarments or cutoffs
• Daily admission fee, punch card, or membership
is required for entry. No cash refunds.
• The City of Conroe reserves the right to refuse entry into the facility.
• The City of Conroe is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
• Children under 3 years must remain within
arm’s reach of an adult at all times.
• Children 8 years old and under must be
accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• Infants and young children must wear swim diapers.
• Inflatable devices and infant float seats are not permitted.
• Masks, snorkels, and/or fins may be used only by adults in lap lanes.
• Please take a soap shower before entering the pool.
• Do not enter the pool if you are ill or have an open wound.
• Coolers, outside food and drink are not allowed in the facility.
• Concession food and drink are restricted to the tables.
• No glass containers allowed.
• Children using the slide on the Play Structure must be under 48” tall.
• Persons using the Tower slide must be 48”or taller
and be able to swim independently to the side.
• Lap lane use is for ages 16 years and older. Lanes
may be restricted depending on programming.
• Dive in designated areas only.
• Use of starting blocks is restricted to supervised
Aquatic Center programming.
• For your own safety, please follow the lifeguard’s directives.
• Running, lewd behavior or other misconduct is prohibited.
• Alcohol and tobacco use in the facility is not allowed.
• No gum allowed in the pool.

Health & Safety Standards
The City of Conroe and the Aquatic Center staff follow the
recommended health and safety standards as established by
the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and the NAHC (National
Aquatic Health Code) in protecting the safety and sanitation
of our patrons.
WEATHER POLICY
All Aquatic Facilities will be closed during electrical storms
and other foul weather watches or warnings. Swimming
lessons will not be made up; if three or more days in a
session are missed due to weather, a credit will be issued
to each participant good for use in future programs.

We now have a place for kids to hang out while mom and dad

Guidelines
• All persons entering the C.K. Ray Recreation Center must have
a current membership ID card and membership or pay the daily
admission.
• A $5.00 fee will be assessed for not having a membership card
at point of entry and a replacement of a lost membership card is
needed.
• A $1.00 fee will be assessed for not having membership card at point
of entry and no replacement card is needed.
• Memberships can only be obtained by persons 18 years and older.
Children must have a parent or guardian present to obtain their
memberships.
• Children 8-under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Daily activities for children 9-up are use of basketball gym and
racquetball courts.
• Minimum age of 9 to be in the game room.
• You must be 16 or older to be in fitness centers, 14 and 15 with adult
supervision.
Fitness Equipment Orientation
Learn how to operate the cardio equipment and weight room
equipment and the do’s and don’ts to being safe when using the
equipment. Trainers will assist you to understand how you can
use the equipment to achieve a healthier lifestyle. This training is
offered the first Saturday of every month at 9am and the second
and fourth Thursday at 7pm.

The Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center is
situated on nearly two and one-half acres south
of downtown Conroe. A six thousand square foot
building with meeting facilities, classrooms, library,
computer room, kitchen and offices supports the
Center’s programming efforts to address the needs in the community. A four thousand square foot activity building adds two classrooms,
restrooms and a large meeting room for programs and rental opportunities.
Outdoor features include a lighted basketball court, a newly renovated playground, picnic tables and seasonal swimming pool. Conroe
residents can participate in after school programming or summer day camps, tutoring and mentoring, teen programs, English and GED classes
and a variety of other programs and special events. Named for Oscar Johnson, Jr., the first African-American Conroe City Council member, the
Community Center is the vision of Conroe’s Concerned Citizens and has been operating for over ten years.

Youth Programs
After School Recreation Program
The City of Conroe provides one of
the best and most affordable after
school programs in the area. Our
goal is to increase confidence and
encourage success in all areas of
a child’s life- at home, in school and
in the community. The After School
Recreation Program is offered from
eight convenient locations to provide
a fun, safe, and supervised place for
kids after school! Trained and caring
staff deliver a snack, homework assistance and recreational activities until
6:30pm or until parents pickup. Through collaborative partners such as AgriLife
Extension, 4-H and Montgomery County Womens Center, special programs
are incorporated throughout the year to enhance the after school experience.
Sites include: Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center, Anderson, Armstrong,
Bozman, Patterson, Reaves, Runyan, Sam Houston, Wilkinson. Transportation
provided to OJJCC from the following schools:, Cryar, Giesinger, Rice, Travis.

Volunteer at the After School
CIT Program
Do something meaningful and earn valuable service hours at
the same time! The Counselor in Training program provides
practical hands on experience for those who will soon be joining the work force. Join the After School Recreation Team and
be a role model while assisting children with homework and
then helping with recreational opportunities: A meaningful way
to gain work experience plus earn service hours. The C.I.T. Program is a volunteer job training program held at various elementary schools and the Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center. All
participants are held to the highest standards, and must be
available a minimum of one day per week from 3:00–6:30pm
on a regular basis. Interested teens should contact the Oscar
Johnson, Jr. Community Center. Transportation is not provided.

The City of Conroe Oscar Johnson, Jr. Community Center, in
collaboration with Washington Jr. High School, operates the
Pass 2 Play program. This program is an open gym opportunity
for students in 3rd - 12th grade with homework help available
during program hours. The program is held in WJH gym, and
operates from 5:30pm–7:30pm Monday - Thursday when
school is in session unless school functions take precedent
of the facility. Transportation is available from designated
locations within one mile from the school. Students absent
from school (including ISS) may not attend Pass 2 Play on the
day that was missed. Registration form must be completed
prior to starting the program. Make plans now to be a part of
something great with your friends!

Parent & Child (6 to 36 months) A Red Cross
parent and child aquatics program providing a nationally
standardized format that will promote water safety
practices, aquatic adjustments, swimming readiness skills,
fun and enjoyment in the water. Parent is in the water with
the child. A child must wear close fitting plastic pants under
swimsuits or a swim diaper under their swimsuit.
Water Sprites (3 to 5 years) A beginner class specifically
for 3-5 year olds. Emphasis is on water adjustment, safety,
and basic Red Cross Level 1 skills. Each child progresses
according to their own ability. A child must be capable
of working independently with an instructor in a group
situation.
Super Tots (3 to 5 years old) Advanced 3-5 year olds
who have achieved Level 1 proficiency as evaluated by
the Aquatic Center staff. Registration in this class requires
instructor approval.
Level 1 The student practices bubbling and breathing
skills, prone and back floating, proper kicking technique and
elementary locomotion skills. Alternating and simultaneous
arm and leg action, personal safety and rescue technique is
also demonstrated.
Level 2 Pre-requisite: successful completion of Level 1. The
student will improve Level 1 skills and work further on a
consistent rhythmic breathing pattern as well as deep
water exploration and safety skills. Unsupported prone and
back glides are learned, proper kicking techniques, finning,
back crawl arm action, crawl stroke and additional safety
skill development.
Level 3 Pre-requisite: successful completion of Level 2.
Emphasis is on improving Level 2 skills, jumping, diving
entries and crawl stroke with a consistent breathing
pattern. Students work on elementary back stroke and the
coordination of the back crawl, beginner diving technique,
endurance, personal strength, and adding to safety skills.

Youth Workout
This program is designed to build speed and endurance while using learned swimming skills. Learn to use racing starts, competitive
swimming turns and how to read a time clock while swimming prepared, coached workouts designed to build strength and endurance.
Participants must be capable of swimming 100 yards continually
using two strokes with efficient skill. If you are preparing for summer
league, USA swim team, lifeguarding, a triathlon, or exercising for
weight control, this program is for you! Placement may be based
on swimming ability and appropriate swimming speed. This is not a
Learn to Swim program or a swim team.

Springboard Classes
The Conroe Diving Club is a year around program for children
ages 6 -18 interested in learning basic springboard diving skills
and pool safety around the diving area. Levels include“Future
Champions”, “Novice” and “Junior Olympic”. Children
progress through a structured sequence of skills. The C.D.C.
is recognized at the local, state, national and international
levels of the sport. Anyone interested in the afternoon “Learn
to Dive” classes must submit the following information to the
Aquatic office: child’s name, age, parents’ name and contact
phone number. This information will be forwarded to the
coaching staff and you will be contacted to schedule a diving
evaluation for your child.
Homeschool Classes
Develop your springboard diving skills. This homeschool
diving program is being offered mornings to assist the
beginning diver in developing his/her skills. Come in and
join the fun!

A USA competitive seasonal swim team. Swimmers must be
able to swim two lengths of the pool freestyle (with a continuous rhythmic breathing pattern), backstroke and breaststroke.

SCUBA
Lifeguard Training (LGT)
The Lifeguard program teaches the skills and
knowledge required to prevent and respond to aquatic
emergencies. CPR for the Professional Rescuer and
First Aid are included. Minimum enrollment is 6.
This 32 hour course has pre-requisites:
• 15 years of age
• Swim 300 yards continuously in a designated order.
• Swim 20 yards, dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object,
return to the surface, swim 20 yards back within 1 minute
40 seconds. Minimum enrollment – 6. Registration ends
one week prior to start of each session.

“On the Road to Healthy Living” Mobile Cooking School
features Amy Ressler, Montgomery County Extension Agent
– Family and Consumer Sciences, as she presents a three-part
series that will include nutrition, food safety, and preparation
of healthy, tasty, easy-to-prepare meals. Participants will
work together in each class to try new recipes and develop
preparation skills, and then enjoy their work while discussing

A fitness and dance exercise program that keeps everyone motivated by creating a party like atmosphere. Go through a combination of steps such as merengue, reggae tone and salsa. Then

abs, hips and legs. ZUMBA fitness is about some “body girating” dance moves that makes everyone laugh, smile and let

you’re having fun! The average person can burn approximately

Boot Camp H2O
A rigorous cross-training class of swimming, water polo, water
aerobics, modified ply-o-metrics, traditional strength and
cardiovascular exercises; Boot Camp challenges swimmers of

from pool sprints, treading water with weights, underwater
swims, and fins on swimming. The hour-long session will
help you increase cardiovascular endurance and increase
strength while minimizing the impact on joints. This class is
not recommended for individuals with physical limitations or

Diaper Darlings
A great introduction to dance for children developing their coordination. The instructor
guides the parent/child team in a way that makes discovering movement, balance
and listening skills easy and fun. Excellent first-group activity.
Preschool
Introduction to ballet and tap; and create a love for movement as a primary goal. Fun
and special activities occur in each class. Children will begin to hear the vocabulary
used as they begin their progress through the dance program.
Primary
Energetic class offering a half-hour ballet and half-hour tap. Children expand their
repertoire through an age appropriate developmental curriculum. Dance vocabulary
is reviewed and expanded. Students will learn simple exercises, sequences, and
begin musical interpretation.
Elementary
Ballet format includes barre, center floor, petit and grande allegro, adagio, turning,

Musical Theater
Create your own DRAMA! Each week, students are introduced to various singing

The Heritage Museum of Montgomery
County has many indoor and outdoor
exhibits for visitors to see. Indoor exhibits include Isaac Conroe, Peter Willis,
George W. Strake, Jack Johnson, John
Wade and Owen Shannon. Outdoor exhibits include the railroad (small train),
and agriculture complete with tractor,
printing press, and oil and gas station
with Pegasus flying proudly. The fountain
provides a peaceful place to relax and reflect on the day’s events. There is also a
well-stocked gift shop with items for just
about anyone looking for a taste of Texas.
