As we enter into the heart of the Christmas season, the importance of spirituality
in the lives of millions of seniors takes
center stage. In fact, 77% of seniors
are members of churches, synagogues, or other religious institutions.
They volunteer to help out in their
churches, they mentor people from
all walks of life in their communities,
and they are passionate about their
beliefs.
At Primrose, many of our residents strive to continue the lifelong journey of
growing in their faith – and they love sharing their years of wisdom with friends
and family members. Small groups, church services, Bible studies and charitable
giving are common activities amongst the people in our communities – and they
all act as powerful evidence of the spirituality that exists in the lives of our residents.
There have been many studies, by many different professional organizations, performed over the years on the effect of spirituality on the health and well-being of
seniors. Those with an active spiritual life have been shown to experience less
instances of physical disability, less depression, longer life, better immune systems and lower blood pressure. Many of our residents also experience these
types of benefits when coming to Primrose. They find that they have more time
to focus on their faith, to fellowship with their friends and family, and to relax in
the knowledge that their physical and spiritual needs are provided for.
What does spirituality mean to you? What kind of impact has it had on your life
and in the lives of those you love and care for? We would love for you to share
your thoughts and experiences with us. Feel free to stop by your Life Enrichment
Coordinator’s office and share your stories, and we may share them with others
in the next issue of our newsletter.
RESIDENT OF THE MONTH
Our Resident of the
Month, Ruby Ellefson,
started making dolls with
her granddaughters. She
wanted to get closer to
them by doing something
special, starting when her
first granddaughter was
10 years old (she is 42
now!) Ruby even made the patterns before sewing the
clothes for the 50-60 dolls she has made! (Stop by Cindy’s
office and take a peek at a couple of these amazing
dolls.)
Doll making isn’t Ruby’s only hidden talent. She also
made all the wedding dresses for her daughters, and at
Christmastime, you could find her in the kitchen making
70 - 80 pounds of candy for her family and friends to enjoy.
Ruby and her husband, Omar, have been Primrose residents since 2009 and we love having them as part of our
family.

HOLIDAY DECORATING AT PRIMROSE!
We all know how beautiful our sitting areas are in Primrose.
Now is your chance to help make them even MORE beautiful
and inviting. This year, we will be decorating Christmas trees
for each one of the large sitting areas and between both C
Wing Hallways. The trees will be set up and ornaments will
be provided for our residents to join us in making their
‘block’ more festive for the holiday. All trees and ornaments
will be in place by Friday, December 5. Please let Cindy know
if you have any questions
on how you can be one of
Santa’s Helpers!
Candy Cane Christmas Fudge
1 1/2 tsp + 1/4 Butter, Softened
2 cups Sugar
1/2 cup Sour Cream
12 oz. White Baking Chocolate - chopped
1 jar (7 oz.) Marshmallow Creme
1/2 cup Crushed Candy Canes
1/2 tsp Peppermint Extract
WINTER SAFETY TIPS

HOLIDAY DINNER
Christmas is just
around the corner
and we want to make
sure it’s a wonderful
holiday for our residents and their families. Nancy will be
asking those who are
expecting family and
friends to join them
for Christmas Dinner
here at Primrose, to be sure to sign up so everyone can be included. We will be stopping by to
see if you’d like to be added to the dinner list beginning the second week of December. Join us!
windy. Keep indoor temperatures at about 65 degrees. If you have
to go outside, don’t stay out for very long, and go indoors if you
start shivering.
Line a 9-inch square pan
with foil. Grease the foil
with 1-1/2 tsp butter, set
aside. In a large saucepan,
combine the sugar, sour
cream and remaining butter. Cook and stir over
medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a rapid
boil; cook and stir until a candy thermometer reads
234° (soft ball stage), about 5 minutes. Remove
from heat; stir in white chocolate and marshmallow
creme until melted. Fold in candy and extract. Pour
into prepared pan. Chill until firm. Using foil, lift fudge
out of pan. Cut into 1-inch squares. Enjoy!
Stay Dry Wet clothing chills your body quickly.
Cover Up all parts of your body when you go outside. If your skin
turns red or dark or starts hurting, go inside right away.
Wear Layers Wearing two or three thinner layers of loose-fitting
clothing is warmer than a single layer of thick clothing. Always
wear layers, as well as:
a hat
gloves or mittens (mittens are warmer)
a coat and boots
a scarf to cover your mouth and nose
Wear Boots With Non-skid Soles so you’re less likely to slip when
you walk.
If You Use a Cane, Replace the Rubber Tip Before it is Worn
Smooth. You might also buy (at a medical supply store) an ice pick
-like attachment that fits onto the end of the cane to help keep
you from slipping when you walk.
November Winners! Daily Bingo: Luella Boseovski. Newsletter Puzzle:
