As a student-run conference, this activity makes me proud to serve the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and the UAE University, and equally proud to see the emergence of our Medical Students as leaders in the international community. The city of Al Ain, called the Garden City of the nation, has a rich heritage that I hope you will enjoy. It is the birthplace of the late UAE president Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who founded the UAE University in Al Ain 1976 and later commissioned the College of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1986. As you will see, our College is home to important research from both faculty and students. The students and I are very happy to have you join us in this conference to promote the health and happiness of all persons of the GCC, and the achievement of students throughout the region. 7 Dr. Mohammed Al Kaabi Conference President Once again, we welcome you all to the ninth International Scientific Conference for Medical Students in the GCC Countries in Al Ain, the United Arab Emirates. This year’s theme is “From Knowledge to Practice” and will accentuate the transition of medical students from learning to the practical use of medical sciences, a transition which many of our guests will ultimately go through. The conference will feature highly renowned speakers, in addition to an excellent scientific program that includes oral and poster presentations, workshops and lectures. Aside from the scientific program, we also have an entertaining social program to explore the beautiful city of Al Ain as well as other emirates in the country. This will be a chance to relax and get to know other medical students from around the world. 8 We are truly grateful to Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University and Professor Dennis Templeton, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences for their endless support and guidance. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have worked alongside me to organize this conference. The hard work of our dedicated organizing members is greatly appreciated by all.
