Keys For Success
Weekly, students have the opportunity to be nominated for a "Student of the Week"
award when they demonstrate any of the
7 Keys to Success we teach at Buckalew Elementary. Students nominated receive a
special certificate to take home. They are then entered into a weekly drawing. The
winners are on the announcements and are presented a "Principal's Award"

Library News:
The Holiday break is a great time to search around for lost or overdue books. Let's start
fresh in the new year and get those library books turned in!
January will bring some exciting events to our library. We have the wonderful
author, HJ Ralles, coming to visit with 4th graders on January 13th and 14th. She will
present an absorbing, practical lesson which teaches useful tips for Personal Narrative
and Expository writing. We will be sending home information about ordering her books.

It's almost time for Bluebonnet voting! I hope your 3rd and 4th graders have enjoyed
reading the books on this year's nominee list. The deadline for the completion of 5 books
on the current list, with an AR score of at least 60%, is January 16th. Students who
complete these requirements will be able to attend the Bluebonnet voting lunch party,
where they will participate in a state-wide election to choose this year's Bluebonnet
winner. Please remember that this is an optional library program.
Happy Reading!
Mindy Laird, Librarian
GT NOMINATIONS FOR
2014-15 SCHOOL YEAR
The window is now open for parent Nominations for GT Screening and will
continue through December 19, 2014. Parents may nominate their student for
Spring GT Testing by filling out the District Nomination Form, available through
any 3rd or 4th Grade Teacher, or by asking Belinda in the front office. Parents
may now nominate, one time per level of test. In other words, students may
test once each school year to see if they meet district requirements and/or
qualify in other subject areas. GT Testing will be held at Buckalew during the
school day, in a date yet to be determined mid January/February 2015.
Nomination forms may be returned to your student's 3rd or 4th grade teacher
OR to Belinda in the front office. All second grade students will be nominated
by Buckalew after receipt of CogAT scores. CogAT scores are one of two
qualifying scores for the district’s GT Program. All nomination forms are due
NO LATER THAN December 19, 2014.
PTO CORNER
Lost and Found
The last day to claim lost and found articles of clothing or lunch boxes before the
Christmas break will be FRIDAY, December 19th.
If your child is missing an item please have them look for it on the Lost & Found racks
outside of the lunchroom. You are also more than welcome to come take a look. Our
racks are overflowing!
The best chance to recover an item, before it is lost, is to label everything with your
child's FULL NAME, or at least Last Name. PLEASE LABEL.
If you are missing something and can’t make it up to school during school hours, please
email me, Cathy Pittenger, at cathyag93@aol.com and give me a description and I can
look for it for you. After Friday, December 19th the clothing/lunch boxes will be
donated to a worthy charity.
