OTTAWA, ON (February 24, 2014) – International charity and educational partner Free The Children,
alongside National Co-Title Sponsors RBC and TELUS, announced today the anticipated lineup of iconic
speakers and captivating performers set to join 16,000 students at the Canadian Tire Centre on April 9,
2014 for the second annual National We Day-Canada.
We Day is an educational youth empowerment event which is taking the philanthropic world by storm and
is now going global, with events in the United States, Canada and the UK. Over 180,000 youth this year
alone will come together in stadium gatherings to take part in an unprecedented educational initiative
which inspires students to get involved in positive social change.
Students can’t buy a ticket to We Day, they earn it through service; by making a commitment to take
action on at least one local and one global initiative of their choice as part of the year-long educational
program called We Act. National We Day-Canada is free of charge to the thousands of students and
educators in attendance thanks to the extraordinary support of sponsors including National Co-Title
Sponsors RBC and TELUS.

In the year of the 50 anniversary of his father’s memorable I Have a Dream speech, an exciting addition
to the lineup this year is human rights advocate Martin Luther King III, who will be speaking at all We
Day events across North America in 2013-2014.
World-renowned leaders, entertainers and members of the Ottawa community have added their voice to
the We Day movement. Alongside National We Day-Canada co-chairs Jeff York, President and Chief

We Day is tied to the year-long program, We Act, which supports students and educators with free
educational resources, student-led campaigns and support materials to help turn the event’s inspiration
into sustained activation. Since 2007, youth involved in the We Act program have raised $37 million for
over 1,000 local and global causes and logged more than 9.6 million volunteer hours.
