CLASS ONLINE MAKEUP CLASSES FAQs tran sform Will I earn a License? No. In accordance with the State Laws of New Jersey, Makeup Artistry by itself is not a licensed profession. Generally, many Makeup Artists working in the fashion and entertainment industries are considered Freelance Makeup Artists and possess certifications in advanced makeup training. In New Jersey, the practice of cosmetic enhancement falls under the umbrella of Cosmetology and Esthetics, however, salons and department stores may employ Makeup Artists without a Cosmetology or Esthetics license to apply makeup for retail promotion and product demonstration purposes. Although employment for fashion shows, movie sets, or other Makeup Artist gigs may not require a license, having one in Cosmetology or Esthetics can add significant value and opportunity to a career in the beauty industry. For information on these programs and/or double enrollment scholarships, please speak to Admissions or visit RobertFiance.com. What types of jobs are available for make-up artists? Make-up artists are specialists in the art of cosmetic beauty. They become experts in the latest beauty products and use them to dramatically improve their clients’ natural appearance. Their job is to help people look and feel glamorous, which in turn can help build their clients’ self-esteem and help provide the “perfect” look for a daytime or evening event. Professional Freelance Makeup Artists may practice in a retail setting and make money on sales commissions. They could work for magazines, modeling agencies, runway shows, theatrical, film and television productions. They can also work for themselves by starting a Freelance Makeup business, they may oversee a team of other artists who represent their brand and can help expand their business. They may also launch a new cosmetics line or work for a major label as a demonstrator or educator. Many make-up artists also possess a license in Cosmetology or Esthetics and work in salons and spas. There will always be a demand for professional makeup application for weddings, proms, and other special occasions. The career of a makeup artist working in the fashion and entertainment industry is very fast-paced, exciting, and rewarding. Many artists trained in all areas of makeup including beauty and special effects start on independent productions while developing their portfolio and resources. After much hard work and time, many artists go on to become Creative Directors, who work with producers to create their visions for the screen and stage. Creative Directors for big budget productions can make well over $100,000 a year depending on the venue. Imagine going on tour with your favorite musician being in charge of designing the set hair and makeup? In this highly competitive career, you can be a part of the magic of show business. Did you know that a Makeup Artist can win an Academy Award? Will the Academy find me employment? RFMA offers Career Placement Assistance in the form of networking and entry-level employment opportunities. We frequently work with industry professionals on shows and events where students and graduates may be invited to participate, network, and expand their portfolio. Please Note, under no circumstances is employment guaranteed. Will I receive a 1098-T? No. The Academy does not qualify for student education tax credits and therefore does not issue 1098-T forms. Students may however print tuition and payment statements online through our student system. Are models provided? The requirement for models varies per class and Instructor. Generally, models may be needed for weekly class projects, but may not be required as students may work on each other.
