POINT LONSDALE SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB MEMBERSHIP PACKAGE 2014 / 2015 www.pointlonsdaleslsc.asn.au MEMBERS ARE OUR KEY. For many of our members the beginning of their association with the Club is learning valuable surf skills on the beach at Santa Casa during Nippers. Last Season saw nine patrol groups patrolling our back beach as well as performing Nipper Water Safety Patrol. Our Back beach patrols also extended our coverage with a roving patrol along the length of the beach and an outpost at the front beach during the busier times of summer. The club also provided crucial Water Safety for many of the regions summer activities and continues to maintain a Life Saving Emergency Response Team (LERT). LERT provides a year round (out of normal patrol hours) emergency search and rescue service to not only our community but also the Victorian Community. None of this could be achieved without the continued commitment and support of our members. FUNDING APPEAL – SUPPORT NEW CLUBHOUSE NOW Your support is critical: when making your membership payment, please add a donation to “The Pointers” Endowment Fund. This fund is gathering vital money specifically for significant new projects, such as the NEW CLUBHOUSE. Planning is well underway and funds are now needed. Alternatively, if you can offer in-kind support (such as building supplies or services) please include a note with your membership renewal or contact our VP Property, via the office. CLUB MEMBERSHIP: SEE PAGE 3 A NIPPER PROGRAM We offer a program for ages Under 8 to Under 13, with places strictly limited for safety and effectiveness. If you need any forms which were not supplied with your membership package, you can print them from the Membership area of the club website – or contact the club for help. Your forms will vary according to your family’s circumstances: If your family has any Nippers: for each Nipper, we need a completed PINK form B titled “Nipper ‘Preliminary Evaluation’ Check, Photo Declaration & Volunteer WWCC”. Each Nipper MUST have a Fluoro Rash Vest. Use “Clothing Order Form” G if you require any vests. These vests are the same as last year’s. If your Nippers want to join the Stingers Competition Squad: use a GREEN form titled “Stingers Competition Squad Enrolment Form”. If you are a Patrolling Member: please complete and return a BLUE form D titled “Patrol Member Confirmation”. If interested in Instructing Nippers, Cadets or Bronze: fill a PURPLE form E titled “Instructor Expression of Interest”. To apply for Reserve Active or Long Service membership: DARK BLUE form F titled “Reserve Active / Long Service Application”. To order Club Clothing: use the SAND coloured “Clothing Order Form” G INSTRUCTIONS – STEP 2 : THE SLSA MEMBERSHIP FORM This is a detailed WHITE form, with title “APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP”. We need one SLSA form for each member – so a family of two Nippers and two Associate parents would provide four altogether. Blank SLSA forms can be printed from the club website – needed if a younger sibling applies for Nippers, for example. Carefully CHECK ALL YOUR DETAILS on the form – especially contact information like address, email, phone numbers and emergency contacts. Mark updates in pen. Read carefully and sign both sides including parent/guardian consent if appropriate. INSTRUCTIONS – STEP 3 : HOW TO PAY For this step, all families return the YELLOW form titled “Payment” H ► OPTION 1 Supply your Credit Card details on the Payment form, and post with (PREFERRED) your forms from Step 1 and Step 2 (above) to the address shown below. WWCC – WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK For information regarding WWCC and what our club requires please refer to www.pointlonsdaleslsc.asn.au/the-club/working-with-children-check/ . CLUBHOUSE DEVELOPMENT Over the last 3 years we have attempted to work closely with the Borough of Queenscliffe to secure a site for a new club facility. Whilst our current building has served us well it is reaching the end of its life and we desperately need a new building. At the recent AGM the Club resolved that our new clubhouse development should proceed on our current site. As most of you will be aware the club owns the land upon which our building is located and rents the grass area adjacent to the building from the Borough of Queenscliffe. Our focus will now be to go about the mammoth task of designing, constructing and funding a new much-needed building and negotiating an appropriate long term extension to our lease over the Council owned land adjacent to our building (which we would anticipate continuing at a nominal rate reflecting the nature of our community contribution and emergency services activities). I draw your attention to the concept drawings of a potential new facility, these drawings are on show in our Club rooms. We are all now excited about the opportunity to develop club facilities that support our community activities and can be enjoyed by our members. More information can be found at www.pointlonsdaleslsc.asn.au/the-club/new-clubhouse/ 4 POINT LONSDALE SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB B Nipper ‘Preliminary Evaluation’ Check, Photo Declaration & Volunteer WWCC SEASON 2014 / 2015 Please return this form, with the corresponding signed membership form and payment form. PLSLSC NIPPER PARENT INFORMATION 2014-2015 Dear Nipper Parents Working With Children Check (WWCC) Life Saving Victoria mandates that every member of a surf club who works with children must have a current WWCC. In addition, it is a requirement that at least one parent of a registered Nipper is a member of the club. Your child/children will not be accepted as a Nipper at PLSLSC unless at least one parent/guardian is a member of the Club and they have valid and current WWCC. Therefore you must organise your WWCC number BEFORE registration. For more details please visit http://www.pointlonsdaleslsc.asn.au/the-club/working-with-children-check/ Also a reminder: if you already have a WWCC, but have not listed our club as an organisation for which you volunteer, then you will need to update your details. This can be done online at workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au, or call the WWCC unit on 1300 652 879. Volunteer Roster In order for our program to run successfully we require a WWCC registered parent to volunteer twice for different roles during the Nipper program. While competing is a focal point of the Squad, the teamwork, team spirit and friendships developed in the Squad, by both competitors and parents alike, is cherished by all members. To be a member of the Stingers Competition squad, your child must obtain their S-Badge. S-Badge testing is being held on Monday 29 December 2014 at 10am at Santa Casa. Stingers Squad members must also commit to attending and participating in the following carnivals: Cosy Corner Friday 2nd January 2015, (Junior State Carnival #2, Torquay SLSC) Regional Champs Saturday 7th February 2015, (Surf Coast Region, Ocean Grove SLSC) February Comp Sunday 8th February 2015, (Junior State Carnival #4, Ocean Grove SLSC) State Champs Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th March 2015 (Warrnambool SLSC) Carnivals are as much about team commitment and team goals as individual success. This season will be a bit different from seasons past. Our competition commitment will increase, and so will the number of coaching staff helping with each age group. Competitors will be free to specialise in beach events, water events or both, with coaching designed to build on current skills and enhance strengths. Our Club Coach, David Strahan along with qualified volunteers in each area, will run the training sessions and times will be confirmed once the squad is finalised. While the squad will be larger this year overall, we are planning training to maximise 1-on-1 or small group interaction with coaches. There is no extra fee to be involved in this squad. However it will requires a level of commitment from competitors and parents alike. This season, at least one parent who has a child in the Stingers Squad will be asked to complete 1 of 3 courses – Age Manager, Junior Official or Bronze / Water Safety (unless one parent already has this). This will facilitate full eligibility for competitions and will also build on the skills and knowledge available to competitors and the Club overall. Our goal for the squad this season is to have at least 8 competitors in each age group (boys and girls) and to qualify for a team event at the State Championships for each age group (boys and girls). This is a big task but more than achievable with the skills and abilities we have within the Club. If you are keen to join to the Stingers Competition squad please provide us with details as requested on page 2 (this also applies to all past and current members). I very much look forward to seeing some new faces this coming season, along with our regular, well practised existing members!
