Ms. Scielzo concentrates her practice on health care regulatory counseling, with significant experience in fraud and abuse and reimbursement considerations and their impact on day-to-day operations, corporate compliance and governance, and transactions. Ms. Scielzo regularly advises clients on designing and implementing corporate compliance programs and assessing compliance program effectiveness. She is also experienced in conducting a broad range of health care industry transactions (such as mergers and acquisitions and private equity) with particular emphasis on hospital-physician business arrangements, including joint ventures, physician recruitment and physician practice acquisitions/ divestitures. She represents a myriad of health care providers and companies, including hospitals and health systems, physicians and physician organizations, academic medical centers, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, ancillary service providers and other related entities. A leader in the health law academic community, Ms. Scielzo has assisted several law schools with the development of health law curricula for their JD and LLM programs. She teaches a wide range of courses on the subject of health care fraud and abuse, compliance, governance, and mergers & acquisitions at various law schools, including American University Washington College of Law, Loyola University Chicago School of Law, and Georgetown University Law Center. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Scielzo worked as a health care strategy analyst at the Advisory Board Company in Washington, D.C. and coauthored articles published in distinguished clinical journals such as the Journal of the American Medical Association and Critical Care Medicine. Ms. Scielzo is an active leader and member of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA), having served for many years as a member of the Planning Committee for the annual AHLA Fundamentals of Health Law Conference. She currently serves as the Chair of that Committee. She also has the privilege of serving on the AHLA Nominating Committee for the upcoming 2014-2015 year. She is a frequent speaker and author in the field of health law.
