off Malaysia camp

BAHRAIN National Football team arrived in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia, yesterday for their first training
camp ahead of the Asian Cup Championship in Australia from January 9
to 31.
The team members, who will be staying at Golden Horses Palace Hotel, were
received by Bahrain Football Association (BFA) board member Hafeth Al
Dossary, administrator Fahad Jalal and
accountant Adel Abbas Marzoog.
The team is coached by national
coach Marjan Eid and assisted by Isa Al
Sadoon. The support staff include goalkeeping coach Abdulla Belal and physical fitness trainer Jose Carlos of Brazil.
The team held their first training session at the Malaysia Football Federation
football pitch, where coach Eid and his
technical staff concentrated on warm-up
exercises.
Meanwhile, national team captain
Mohammed Hussain, who plays for top
Saudi Arabia club Al Nasr, will join the
team today after playing for his club
against Al Shoala in the Crown Prince
Cup quarter-final match.
The team’s general supervisor Hafeth
Al Dossary pointed out that the team
aim to benefit from this training camp
before travelling to Ballarat City in Australia on Saturday. They will play two
friendly games – against Saudi Arabia
on December 31 and against Jordan on
January 4.
Two training sessions are scheduled
for today. Coach Eid will concentrate
on the fitness of the players in the morning session, while he will have a major
training session in the evening.

Hamed emerges winner
HAMED Salem emerged Flight One winner in the traditional December Christmas Hamper strokeplay competition.
In Flight Two, Yong Back Kim topped the
list.
The competition, sponsored by BMMI-alosra, was held in perfect golfing conditions at
Awali Golf Club.
BMMI representatives Micheal Goodger
and Paul Terblanche were on hand while Club
Captain Abdul Elah Fakhroo was master of
ceremonies and presented the prizes on behalf
of BMMI.

DEEPAK fired a fine half
century and Joby claimed
six wickets to lead Strikers CC to a 56-run victory over
Awali Gents in the BFC-sponsored Cricket Bahrain (BCLCBA Division) Premier League
T20 Tournament.
Strikers, who batted first, were
in fine form as Deepak led the assault with 67 runs. He was well
supported by Asif, who scored
32. For Awali, Nomi took three
wickets while Ajith claimed two.
Awali batsmen, barring Felix and Khurram,
failed to put up a
fight as Joby kept
them in check
with a fiery spell
that saw six batsmen perish. Felix
made 40 runs
while Khurram
contributed 39 to
the team’ total.

Under-14 team
ready for Asian
championship
BAHRAIN’S
under-14 national tennis team will participate in the Asian
Tennis Cup U-14 Championship to be held in Doha from
today until next Tuesday.
The championship, to be
held at Khalifa Olympic Tennis
and Squash Complex, is being
organised under the umbrella
of Asian Tennis Federation.
A total of 11 teams will compete in the championship. The
participating teams are Jordan,
Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Yemen,
Qatar A-B, Iran, Kazakhstan,
Sri Lanka, India and Nepal.
The Bahrain team members
are Ali Nabeel Dawani, Yousif Ghassan Dhaif and Hassan
Salah El Deen.
The participants will be divided into two groups and they
will play two singles and one
doubles matches.
