Presidents’ Message
Happy New Year Quilters!
This has been a great start to the 2014/15 guild meetings. We can
hardly wait to see how exciting the presenters will be in the New
Year! Deck the Halls was a great success for the Centre! We are so
fortunate to have such a fabulous facility for us to all enjoy!
The November executive meeting was a harsh reminder to Nancy
and I that Mother Nature may get the best of us and ultimately make the decision as to whether or not one should be
on the roads. There is a large geographic area from which we gather and although it may be sunny in Ingersoll, we
could have severe white-outs or icy road conditions in London or Woodstock! Please do not take chances on the
roads. Should it be necessary to close the Centre due to inclement weather, there will be an email sent by 4:00 p.m. on
a meeting day. If unable to check emails, please call the ICAC office to check the answering machine. If in doubt,
don’t go out!!!!!
Memorial Day is fast approaching! Our VP Cathy has found a very exciting quilt for us to make. Remember to mark
February 7th on your calendar! If you thought that the December meetings were a culinary delight, just wait till
Memorial Day!
Hopefully your quilt show projects are coming together. Sleeves, sleeves, sleeves are the most important item to
remember to get on your entry. The hours and days involved in the planning and hanging of this tremendous art show,
are made so much easier for the volunteers, if you can help them by having your sleeves and label completed.
There are a lot of exciting new classes being offered. The Centre is not sending out the little grey class pamphlet , so
be certain to check out the classes being offered on the website or check the shelf outside of the office door.

Jim moved to Ingersoll from the Windsor area a few years ago and immediately joined the Creative Arts Centre and
Oxford Quilters' Guild. As a retired high school art teacher, Jim has many talents and actively participates in
pottery and painting, as well as quilting at the Centre.
He has received many awards for his quilts, including the Viewers' Choice Award at the last TWO 'Pieces of
Magic' Quilt Shows. Presently, Jim is a co-ordinator for the Comfort Quilt Group and spends a great deal of time
preparing kits to be quickly assembled.
We look forward to viewing his outstanding quilts in his presentation - ' Man - Fibre - Art'

Quilt Show Quickie #3
Quilt Show Registration
Attached to this Dispatch is the registration form for
the quilt show. You can fill out the paper form or use
the on-line registration form available on the Oxford
Quilters’ Guild website.
Why is this information important?
Size & Photo information: For the last few
years we have tried to preplan the hanging of the
show to reduce the amount of confusion and volunteer
time. Accurate measurements help us to know what
size fits best where in the display and the picture
helps us with colour coordination. Jan McAninch is
going to talk briefly at the January meeting regarding
taking a “good” photo of your quilt.
Hanging Sleeve & Rod: ALL quilts must have a
hanging sleeve. Even though because of space some
quilts have to be draped, the decision on which quilts
to drape is not made until well into the hanging
process – we are hopeful, with the additional space
available this year that very few quilts will be draped.
Hanging rods are another challenge for the set up
committee. If your quilt is not double size or larger,
please be sure to provide a hanging rod – the rods will
be marked with your name and returned to you after
the show. The larger full size quilts will be hung on
our display racks.
Do you want to sell your quilt: We are going
to include the option to sell your quilt. If this
information is provided at the time of registration
your desire to sell will be on the card describing your
quilt.
Critique: Our show has never been a “judged or
juried” show. Several members have indicated a
desire to have their quilts judged. In an effort to
encourage growth in our quilting experience, if there
is enough interest, we will arrange for someone with
experience to provide some confidential feedback on
the quilts of those you request it.
Description: Please limit your description of your
quilt to 250 characters – any more and the descriptive
cards for the quilts are not readable.
Most important! Lets get quilting! Our show
is fast approaching, we challenge you to finish those
projects that have been put aside for a more creative
day, or start that new project that has been rolling
around in your imagination.
QUILT SHOW PRIZES
This year we have expanded the
categories for prizes. There will be a
category for each of bed quilts, wall
quilts and challenge quilts. A sticker
indicating which category a quilt is in
will be put on the quilt label and there
will also be a Viewer's Choice for each of the three
categories. The ballots will have clear indicators,
shapes the same as the stickers on the labels, as to
which category a person is voting on.
The CQA rosette will go to the quilt that has the most
votes in either the bed quilt or wall quilt category.
There will also be a sticker for first time exhibitors so
all the newer quilters can feel free to show a quilt no
matter how experienced they are. We want everyone
in the guild to be represented.

The Quilt Show is
fast approaching
and once again we
will be running a Boutique with all of the
fabulous items you would like to sell. All
items must be fabric or quilt related, which
opens it up to a bevy of different items.
Marking your product will be the same way as
for Deck The Halls so if any of you have items
left over from that sale you need not change
your tags. I will have a sign-up sheet ready in
the next few months. Ten percent of your sales
will go to the Guild.
With all of your help, we can count on the
Boutique being a huge success. If you have

Quilt Show 2015
Challenge
How are your banners coming along? Need some ideas? I found these on the internet – just type in ‘quilted door
banners’. Using the idea of ‘baby’ you could use your child or grandchild’s name and appliqué some of their
favourite activities. You could make individual blocks-each block celebrating your favourite event. Connect them
together with a small tab or strip of fabric, use Velcro tabs and you can interchange them as you desire.
The rules are as follows:
1. A banner – able to hung on a door or wall
2. Width – between 12 and 18 inches
3. Length – between 36 and 56 inches
4. Can be made of any material and have any embellishment you like
5. Theme is any celebration or occasion that you like.
6. Lettering is optional
7. Will not count as a quilt entry for the show
8. Must have a hanging sleeve and label
