Silicon seals to keep the drives clean What are the main steps to control a STEPCRAFT? There are three main steps you need to consider 1) CAD / Design. The first step in the CNC process if that you need draw/design your parts and shapes that you wish to machine. Sometimes its an option to use an existing CAD package that you are already familiar with and use. Equally - you may never had used a CAD package before. You do not need existing CAD experience to use these systems 2) CAM / Toolpath generation. This step interprets the CAD data you have designed and generates a toolpath that the machine control software then runs to reproduce the previously drawn part. It is this stage that translates the part design you have drawn into a format that the machine can use to make your part 3) Finally the machine controller is used to carry out the machining operation. It is important to be able to intuitively understand and interact with the machine at this stage as it is critical to the quality and success of the output. IDEA.... 1) Part designed on Computer (CAD) 2) Toolpath Generated from the Design (CAM) 3) Control software used to control machine to produce the part Final part produced from original idea Basic Software system provided with the STEPCRAFT kit WinPC Starter is provided as standard with the machine kit WinPC starter is provided in all the machine kits as standard that we provide - and is included in the prices for the machine systems. There are introductory exercises and first trials that are carried out on WinPC starter and to get you moving the machine fort the first time. Once comissioned you must use Corel Draw (CAD) to generate your part shapes in order to design and machine your own parts. WinPC starter is an excellent introduction to get you making your first steps with the STEPCRAFT. However - WinPC starter will quickly limit what you can get out of the machinie. See the UCCNC software descrption to get the most out of your STEPCRAFT system. Corel Draw 1) Part designed on Computer (CAD) CorelDRAW is the CAD package compatible with WinPC Starter - Use Corel to draw your parts 2) Toolpath Generated from the Design (CAM) WinPC Starter 3) Control software used to control machine to produce the part WinPC Starter is both the CAM and control software Files generated in Corel Draw are imported into WinPC starter and the machine can then be programmed to follow the paths generated in 2D by CorelDRAW. Therefore WinPC starter acts as both the CAM software AND the control software. Advantages Disadvantages Simple and straight forward Limited functionality Machine tuning and setup explained No Tool Radius compensation Sample exercises are good intro to first steps Single cutting pass depth Easy to setup and get machining No live view of machine ` UCCNC upgraded software package for STEPCRAFT UCCNC controller combined with Cut2D The UCCNC controller is offered as an upgrade to your STEPCRAFT system. The UCCNC is a full Gcode controller and allows you to get the most out of your machine. As it is a full Gcode controller you can use programs like Cut2D and VcarvePro to use the STEPCRAFT. This opens up the machine to singnificantly more possiblities. The UCCNC live view of the machine position, and very user friendly interface is our recommended addition to your STEPCRAFT CNC system. The UCCNC runs on a very reliable USB motion controller called the UC100. Therefore we can guarantee that this system will run on any PC from windows 2000 onwards. When the UCCNC is used with Cut2D or VcarvePro. The machines functionality can then be realised to its full potential. 1) Part designed on Computer (CAD) Cut2D has basic CAD Capacity Cut2D has basic CAD capacity internally and can also import DXF files from external CAD packages. 2) Toolpath Generated from the Design (CAM) 3) UCCNC software to control the STEPCRAFT Cut2D can be used to design your part shapes (CAD) and also generate the toolpaths to control the machine (CAM). There are a number of settings and options that you can choose from before you export to the machine. The UCCNC control software can then read these toolpaths and make your designs. When using the Cut2D and UCCNC combination your STEPCRAFT is a fully automated CNC system. You do not need to be a technical whizz to get your head around the process. Both Cut2D and UCCNC are both very intuitive and we provide a very comprehesive set of instructions for you to help you setup and become proficient with the software as quickly as possible. NOTE: Cut2D (95£) and VcarvePro (395£) are very similar. VcarvePro is the fully feature packed 2D CAM from vectric. You can download the demo versions from Vectric.com to test them out. Advantages Full Gcode machine controller Outline, pocket and pecking capacity Live view of machine position on UCCNC Compatiblity with other CAD packages Tool radius compensation in Cut2D Intuitive Cut2D/UCCNC GUIs for ease of use Multiple pass machining toolpaths possible Software compatible with all our machines Software options Summary UCCNC/Cut2D and WinPC/CorelDRAW There are two options for your STEPCRAFT system 1) You can choose to use WinPC starter that is included in the kit. As WinPC starter is not a Gcode controller is its not compatible with any other CAM packages. So you must use Corel Draw. 2) You can choose to upgrade to the UCCNC software and use Cut2D or VcarvePro. The UCCNC is also compatible with the 3D printer system and other CAM packages like Cut3D and Deskproto. The UCCNC can operate a 4th axis and can run all the extra functionality that may be required.
