The Vendor/Craft Sale will be in the CC and CH. The bake sale will be held in the CH and the book sale will be in the AC CR. Friends Helping Friends are requesting baked good donations be delivered to the CH around 7:30 a.m. Hamburgers, chili and hot dogs will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the CH. Monday, January 12th poker games will begin at 7 p.m. each week night in the AC. Need five people to play. Dealer’s choice playing for 5¢, 10¢ or 25¢. Monday, January 12th Sunscape TOPS Chapter 0511 extends an invitation to their open house at 3 p.m. in the AC CR. TOPS stand for Take Off Pounds Sensibly. As a group, we encourage our fellow members to eat a balanced and sensible diet. We urge physical activities as our aging bodies permit and provide support to each other in our efforts. He will conduct a Hearing Health Care Seminar then answer your hearing related questions before individually checking attending residents hearing. Sign up now for this free informational workshop to be held from 10:30 to noon in the AC CO. Tuesday, January 14th the Cut-up Quilters Guild will meet at 1:00 pm in the AC CR. For the past 2 weeks we have been making the "Crazy Quilt" block with Marilyn Cornish. From this block and an idea from Linda Matt, many quilters are using this technique to make some quilts for the Sunscape quilters. Tuesday will be Open Class. Bring what you would like to work on. Our next project will be taught by Ede Trockels. Fabric will be available for this project. We have "Show and Tell" at 2:00 so bring and show us what you are working on. Wednesday, January 14th there will be a meeting of the Emergency Response Committee in the AC CO at 9 a.m. Current members please bring your pagers. The committee is looking for new members to provide medical assistance to park members. These people provided services in a range of duties from opening the gate for emergency vehicles to helping residents deal with everything from minor cuts to life-saving efforts until Regional Fire and Rescue can arrive. Wednesday, January 14th we will start playing a Texas Hold’em game on Wednesday afternoons in the CH. There will be a $5 buy-in and it will be a game not a tournament. The CH is not available the afternoon of January 21st, February 4th, February 18th or March 4th. Thursday, January 15th the Nebraska Breakfast will resume on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Meet at Golden Corral at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, January 15th a representative from Senior Financial Solutions will answer your questions regarding Medicare options, Long-Term Care, Final expenses, Wills & Trusts, Life insurance and Safe Annuities. Get to Organ Stop Pizza at 1149 East Southern Avenue in Mesa at 11 a.m. Pay $8 (cash or check) at the door for all the pizza you can eat, salad and a demonstration of their amazing theater organ. Directions to Organ Stop are on the table by the signup sheet. You can still sign up in the CH. Friday, January 16th Gemini Hospice will be doing a free presentation on Heart Disease at 3 p.m. in the AC CR. Please sign up in the CH for this event. Saturday, January 17th Sunscape will be sponsoring an AARP Driver Safety Course from 8 to noon in the AC TV area. Cost is $20 for non-AARP members and $15 for AARP members. Each attendee received a workbook. Make you check payable to AARP. Sign up in the CH ASAP as the class is filling up. The first 25 people to sign up can attend this class. Drivers 55 and older completing this program may be eligible for a discount on their auto insurance. Tuesday, January 20th all Minnesota former and current residents are invited to the Minnesota Breakfast at Tag’s Restaurant in Coolidge. Just show up at 8 a.m. for this social event. Wednesday, January 21st a bus is coming to take you to Wildhorse Pass Casino or Lone Butte Casino. Enjoy bingo at Lone Butte or ride the free shuttle bus to the Phoenix Premium Outlet Mall from Wildhorse Pass. The shuttle bus leaves from the casino every 20 minutes. The bus ride costs $5 but you get $10 in play plus the chance to win a $10 food reimbursement coupon or a $10 bingo play coupon. Your choice! Sign up now in the CH. Be sure to write in your Gila River Casinos card number if you have a card. If you don’t, sign up and you will get a card when you get to the casino. Also write down the casino at which you would like to be dropped. Need a minimum of 25 people to sign up in order for them to send a bus. Wednesday, January 21st there will be a baked potato dinner like the one we had last season. Huge potatoes and tons of toppings will be available. Get your tickets now for $7. Friday, January 23rd Dillard’s is having a VIP Shopping Event just for us! Sign up now and get to Dillard’s in the Promenade Mall at 9:30 a.m. Enjoy refreshments, fun shopping activities and prize drawings. Sign up in the CH by January 21st. Friday, January 23rd we will have our annual Nearly Newlywed Game at 7 p.m. in the CC. Watch as contestants try to guess their spouses response to sometime interesting questions. Tickets for this hilarious event are only $2. Get yours now before they sell out. Wednesday, January 28th get ready to go to the Arizona Opry Variety Show #2. This is a matinee performance. We’ll enjoy a wonderful roast beef and chicken dinner followed by a spectacular show. Show and a sit-down dinner for $36. Pay and select your seat at the Activity Office by Tuesday, January 13th. The tagalong will leave the park at 10:30 a.m. Arizona Opry will open their doors at 11:15 a.m. Please arrive between 11:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Dinner is served at 12:30 p.m., the show starts at 1:30 p.m. and is out around 3:30-3:45 p.m. Unless you request a different meal because of dietary restrictions, The meal will consist of baked chicken, tender slow-cooked roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable medley, roll and butter and “Opry chocolate cake.” All meals include coffee and lemonade. Beer, wine and soft drinks are available at an additional cost. The show is a variety of music and comedy performed by extremely talented individuals. Information about the show and directions to the Arizona Opry are available in the Activity Office! Thursday, January 29th we need models for the New Image Fashion Show. Come check out the clothing from Koret, Alfred Dunner, Cactus Bay, Erin London and more in the CC between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. We will have a salad potluck at 11:30 so bring a dish to share and your own service. Lemonade and tea provided. Models will be walking the “runway” at approximately 12:15 p.m. Friday, January 30th we will have a free DJ Dance in the CC from 7 to 10 p.m. Bring your own snacks, beverages and ice and we’ll get the CDs turning. This is an old-west style saloon theatre that performs melodramas. They will be performing The Ballad of Two-Gun McGraw – A Wacky Western Adventure at noon. The cost is $20 for adults and $17.84 for seniors (60+). Please pay at the Activity Office by Thursday, January 29th. The Gaslight Theatre serves food (pizza, drinks, sandwiches, hot dogs, salads, appetizers and more) and you sit at a table. Check out the menu at www.gaslighttheatre.com. Tuesday, February 24th to Wednesday, February 25th we will be taking a bus to Jerome, Sedona and to Cliff Castle Casino in Camp Verde. Enjoy the spectacular beauty of the red rock country and visit the “largest ghost town in America”. Browse the unique shops and art galleries. One nights accommodations at Cliff Castle Casino Hotel, $10 in free casino play, complimentary hot breakfast, a tour guide and deluxe motor coach transportation. $140 for a single room and $104 per person for a double occupancy room. Seats available for the first 26 to sign up and pay. Payment has to be made no later than February 6th. Bus leaves Sunscape at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, arrives Jerome 11.30 a.m. with rest stop en route, lunch stop in Jerome. Depart Jerome approx. 1:30 p.m. arrive Sedona 2:00 p.m. for afternoon in Sedona, and then on to Cliff Castle Casino for overnight. Depart Wednesday approx. 2:00 p.m. arrive back at Sunscape around 5-6 p.m. For Your Information Leola Mork won free hat or t-shirt when her name was drawn at Town Hall from the bucket of names of people whose name tags had been seen over the course of the month. The first 2015 Park Party meeting was held on Wednesday with many new events planned for the February 28th to March 7th 2015 festival. Raffle tickets will be on sale immediately. They will be sold at the ticket desk, at all meals and craft shows. Prior to the annual meeting they will be sold at an early bird price of 20 tickets for $10. All of the tickets sold prior to the annual meeting will be eligible for two $50 cash prize drawings at the Annual meeting in addition to the final drawings on March 7th. The old favorite Park Party events will still be held but there will be new events for your enjoyment. With new events comes the need for more volunteers to help with the Park Party. Next meeting on Monday, January 26th at 1 p.m. In the AC CO. Re-painting of the Christmas Yard Decorations will be taking place on weekdays in the south end of the Maintenance Building. Come any time you can help or see JoAnn in the Activity Office for times. You have several options for Sunscape name tags. The Welcome Center sells pin-on name tags for $3 and magnet-backed ones for $6. A label maker is used to put your name on these. Go to the Welcome Center and they will make these for you. You can also rent these name tags from the Welcome Center for $7. You get $6 back if you turn them in at the end of your stay. For a magnetbacked name tag with your name permanently affixed, you must order from the Activity Office. The cost is $7. We need 20 people to sign up and pay before an order can be placed. There are currently six people on the list. The Ticket Sale Table will be open in the CH Mondays from 4:00 to 5:30 and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Get your show tickets, pay for theater trips or pay for bus trips during these times. If you rinse out your metal food cans (not pop/beer cans), you can place them in the container by the pop can shed. Pop/beer cans go in the aluminum can chute on the shed. All metal collected is hauled away and Sunscape gets cash in return so please save your metal cans and pop/beer cans for Sunscape. V.I.P. discount cards for area business are now available for sale by the Sunscape Singles. They are like the old kind we had before last year’s one. Computers and computer room will be opened Mondays from 9:00 - 11:00 am. Wi-Fi and computer assistance will also be available at this time. To use either the computers or wi-fi at other times see Billie Hering, lot 247. If you have posted “For Sale” or other cards on the cork board by the mailboxes, please take yours down if it is no longer applicable (item sold, item rented, etc.). All cards need to be initialed by the park manager or activity director before being placed on the board. Please take any ad that is no longer relevant in the “For Rent” or “For Sale” books in the CH. It’s up to the residents to keep these books current. Lost and Found is at the Welcome Center. Found items will be kept for two weeks and then taken to the Town Hall meeting. If not claimed there, they will be disposed of. If you are planning on donating your aluminum pop and beer cans to the park, please do not put cigarette butts in the cans as they have to be cleaned out before they are crushed. Please put your aluminum cans in the can recycle containers in the AC, CH and by the dumpsters. Funds raised benefit the park. Sunscape Café meals: Supper will be served Monday night from 4:30 to 6:00. Sign up in the CH kitchen hallway as soon as possible since the sheet will be taken down after breakfast on Sunday. Dinner on January 12th will be spaghetti and meatball for $8. Lunch is served on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Breakfast served from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays. Order lunch and breakfast from the menus, which can be found in the CH kitchen hallway. Wait staff needed for all meals. Sign up on volunteer list in CH Kitchen hallway or see Diane, the Sunscape Cafe cook. Please do not bring bills larger than $20. Gift certificates are available from the kitchen.
