PROVIDING SAFE & RELIABLE TRAVEL SOLUTIONS
TO OUR TRAVELLING COMMUNITY
As we close another busy and productive year for our business, and move forward into 2015, we
would like to reflect back on the year that was.
Again due to a high demand on our services from new friends and community groups, we have seen
a growth in the number of vehicles in our coach fleet. This growth has also seen further improvement
in providing quality, safe and comfortable luxury coaches for travelling throughout a beautiful and
wondrous region, state and country. It also meant we had to increase our depot size, and after much
deliberation and searching we moved to our new location at 12 Kimberley Court, Torrington.
Along with an increase in our fleet size, we have also welcomed more new staff into the Peters
Coaches family to further support our ability to provide our passengers with reliable, friendly and
supportive customer service that you have all come to know and expect from the Peters Coaches
experience.
Once again this year, our daughter Cheryse and our son Dane have driven our company forward with
a passion to provide excellence in service and vehicle safety. But more exciting is the fact that our
other son Jared has joined us in moving forward our plans to provide the same quality travel services
in and around the Townsville region. We are very hopeful that opening up in Townsville will allow us
to provide our other communities with more opportunities and experiences when travelling.
In 2015 we would also like to invite our friends, passengers and prospective clients to come in to
our office and talk to us about how we can put together an exciting travel experience to meet their
personal or community group needs.
We have looked at ways that we can improve our communication of upcoming events and stay in
touch with our passengers. To this end we have been developing a new look Day Trip Guide ‘Enjoy
the Ride’ Travel Newsletter for release in 2015. This newsletter will be released every 6 months with
a view to update our passengers with our upcoming travel opportunities and keep our information
fresh. This will be enhanced with new look tour brochures that will also be released to our passengers
to remind them of the upcoming touring events. We do hope you enjoy reading our ‘A Journey to
Remember’ Tour Itinerary Booklet and we look forward to seeing you on board one or more of our
tours or day trips throughout 2015.
Along with Cheryse, Dane, Jared and Staff, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a
very happy festive season and an adventurously exciting New Year.
Yours in travel,
Russell & Noelene Peters

Itinerary
DAY 1 (LD): HOME TO YAMBA
Thursday 19 February 2015
Welcome to our 5 day tour to Yamba. We head south on
the New England Highway passing through Warwick and
Stanthorpe stopping enroute for a morning break. Next
up is the town of Tenterfield where we have time to visit
what is locally known as “the jewel of New England”,
Stannum House. Sir Henry Parkes, Banjo Paterson and
Dame Nellie Melba are just a few who have graced the
rooms of this historic house. After our lunch and tour
here we travel through Casino arriving in to Yamba to
check in to our accommodation and relax before dinner.
4
DAY 2 (BLD): YAMBA & TULLYMORGAN
Friday 20 February 2015
After breakfast we take in the sights of Yamba, a quiet
seaside town on the southern side of the Clarence River
estuary. The Yamba Lighthouse is located on South
Head, standing 41 metres above the sea. It offers fine
views of the coastline and is a popular whale-watching
site in the winter months. Its beams can be seen 17
kilometres out to sea. Nearby is a replica of the original
1879 lighthouse erected by volunteers for use as a
community radio station.
We then take a brief ferry ride from Yamba to Iluka where
the coach will meet us to continue our touring. We travel
to Tullymorgan to visit the Glen Ian Ostrich and Emu
Farm for lunch. We are also treated to an insight of these
giant birds, in addition to the incubation process and
chicks. The Farm is also home to Alpacas and goats…
not to mention numerous other bird varieties.
Our afternoon stop is at the Wombah Coffee Plantation,
the World’s southern-most coffee plantation. Established
1982 by two ladies, Joan Dibden and Joy Phelps, who
still own and manage the plantation and process the
coffee from berry to roasted to a packaged coffee. The
coffee is produced from the finest Arabica coffee trees,
grown in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales. The
trees are seedlings of original coffee trees brought to the
area over 100 years ago. Wombah Coffee Plantation
boasts a superior grade of coffee based on quality
control during growing and processing, organically
based horticulture and selective hand picking without
the use of harmful sprays. It is a pleasant mild coffee
and is naturally lower in caffeine than most imported
varieties. We enjoy a tour of the plantation and afternoon
tea with a chance to try the coffee and make a purchase
if you wish.
Breakfast and dinner in the motel, lunch at Glen Ian
Ostrich and Emu Farm.
Yamba Motor Inn
DAY 3 (BD): GRAFTON
Saturday 21 February 2015
This morning we travel south to the small town of Tucabia.
Here we visit Squatters Rest Museum. Surrounded by
vintage tractors, engines and farm machinery there
are 16 old style buildings including a replica 1880
cookhouse. Whilst here we are provided with a tour of
the old house and take a look at the fascinating range of
rural memorabilia. We might even have a song or two
on the Pianola!
Continuing on we head to Grafton. As early as 1866
Grafton council resolved to consider by-laws for the
planting and preserving of trees and shrubs in the streets
and recreation grounds. There are now some 7000 trees
in Grafton and many beautiful parks. The most famous
of the trees is of course the Jacaranda. We enjoy some
free time in town for lunch (own expense).
From here we head to Junction Hill to visit Lanbruk’s
Gunyah – a property belonging to Dorothy and Don
5 DAYS COACH IN/COACH OUT
Enders. Here we’ll be taken on a tour through the Olive
grove; see the animals (Alpacas and Dorper Sheep to
name a couple) in the paddocks before a delicious
homemade afternoon tea. We have the opportunity to
browse through the gift shop to admire local handicrafts
and, of course, pick up a supply of the organic olive
oils produced here. There is even a museum housing
the fully restored and still running, 1926 Chevy Utility.
Following our visit we return to our motel to relax prior
to dinner.
Breakfast and dinner in the motel, lunch own expense.

DAY 4 (BD): THE BANGALOW MARKETS
Sunday 22 February 2015
Make sure you pack your walking shoes and wallet
today as we are off to Bangalow to enjoy Bangalow
Market Day. The North Coast of NSW is home to a
culture steeped in rural traditions, with country towns
and villages nestled in the lush green hills and valleys
formed from ancient volcanoes. With Nimbin to the west
and Byron Bay to the east Bangalow is in the centre of
the counter culture. The markets on the 4th Sunday of
every month are a gathering of locals; a get-together of
artists, artisans, bakers, victuallers, therapists, farmers
and friends. Part of the continuing success of the market
is the beautiful grounds the markets are held in, which
are dominated by eleven huge camphor laurel trees
which provide welcome shade and rustling leaves and a
magic forest atmosphere.
After our morning at the markets we head back to Ballina.
We have arranged a visit to Summerland, House with No
Steps - a beautiful working farm set on 172 acres of
macadamia and avocado trees. Established in 1971,
Summerland House is nestled amongst fertile farmland
on the Alstonville Plateau. We have the opportunity to
take a walk through the manicured gardens and see
the stunning variety of plants in the garden centre and
wander through the historic “Watts Cottage” museum.
Back in Yamba we can freshen up before our final tour
dinner together.
Breakfast and dinner in the motel, lunch own expense.

Wednesday 22 April 2015
After a hearty breakfast we set off to our first visit at the

lovely stories about the work done at the market. This is
a perfect place to have morning tea.
DAY 3 (BLD): CANBERRA
Thursday 23 April 2015
Of course, a trip to Canberra would not be complete
without a parliamentary visit. First up we stop at
the Museum of Australian Democracy (formerly Old
Parliament House).
The Museum of Australian Democracy made headlines
for more than sixty years as home to Australia’s Federal
Parliament from 1927 to 1988. Today, this much-loved
heritage building offers the visitor a unique glimpse into
Australia’s fascinating past.
Next stop is Parliament House. Located in the heart
of Canberra, it is one of the world’s most acclaimed
buildings. It’s renowned for its impressive architecture
and magnificent artworks. The building features superb
stone work and Australian Timber.
We stop for a lunch and chance to relax before our
afternoon visit to The National Portrait Gallery. The
Gallery aims to increase the understanding of the
Australian people – their identity, history, creativity and
culture – through portraiture. There are approximately
400 portraits of people who have shaped Australia and
who continue to shape our nation. After an interesting
day we return to our motel.
Breakfast in the motel, lunch Queens Tce Café, dinner
in the motel.
Ibis Styles, Canberra
DAY 4 (BLD): CANBERRA
Friday 24 April 2015
This morning, we’ll take a drive to the top of Mt. Ainslie
where we can appreciate the complexities of Canberra
Canberra is a truly unique city and one of only a few
planned cities in the world. From our vantage point
we have clear view of Parliament House and Anzac
Parade. We then have some time at the Australian War
Memorial before the ceremony tomorrow. The focus of
the commemoration is the Hall of Memory together with
the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Pool of Reflection
and the Roll of Honour that lists the names of over
102,000 Australian servicemen and women who have
died in war.
Over the past few years the Memorial has undergone
extensive redevelopment resulting in new galleries and
displays. The largest of these is the very impressive
Anzac Hall. It was in May 1942 when 4 Japanese
Midget Submarines attacked Sydney Harbour that the
reality of war was brought home to most Australians.
The Sydney under Attack multimedia presentation uses
light, sound, photos and film to recreate that famous
event in graphic detail. Also on display in Anzac Hall is
a vast collection of historic military technology including
Australia’s oldest military aircraft – the Deperdussin, a
First World War Mark IV Tank and a virtual re-enactment
of Australia’s first naval victory in 1914.
This afternoon we take in the views of Canberra from
a totally different perspective as we take an afternoon
cruise on Lake Burley Griffin. We return to the motel for
dinner.
Breakfast and dinner in the motel, picnic lunch.
Ibis Styles, Canberra
DAY 5 (BLD): CANBERRA ANZAC DAY
Saturday 25 April 2015
Anzac Day is one of Australia’s most important national
occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major
military action fought by Australian and New Zealand
forces during the First World War. The soldiers in those
forces quickly became known as ANZACs (Australian
and New Zealand Army Corps) and the pride they
soon took in that name endures to this day. Today we
remember them!
Following breakfast we then join fellow travellers from
around the country as we come together at the Australian
War Memorial to take part in the ***National Anzac Day
Ceremony. The Anzac Day National Ceremony and
wreath laying includes a march by Australian veterans
of wars and peacekeeping deployments.
After a memorable morning we visit the National
Arboretum Canberra. This 250-hectare arboretum was
created after the area was burned out as a result of the
Christmas 2001 and 2003 Canberra bushfires. As well
as admiring the views, we visit the Visitors Centre and
admire the exquisite wood used in the building. Be sure
to see the national bonsai and penjing collection - home
to some of the finest miniature trees and forests in the
world, produced by some of Australia’s leading bonsai
and penjing artists.
Breakfast at motel, picnic lunch National Arboretum,
dinner in motel.

afternoon, once the pickups are done and the coach
has been loaded we are set to go. This afternoon is a

Goondiwindi or “Gundy” as the locals call it. Apart from
being right on the Queensland/NSW Border it is at the
junction of a number of major Highways including
the Newell which runs all the way to Victoria. It’s also
home town to a reasonably successful race horse –
Gunsynd – the Goondiwindi Grey! In the spring of 1971
he won the Epsom Handicap, the Toorak Handicap, the
George Adams Handicap and the Sandown Cup. In the
autumn of 1972 he recorded 5 straight wins including
the Futurity Stakes and the Doncaster Handicap. In
the spring of 1972 he captured the Cox Plate, ran a
magnificent third in the Melbourne Cup under 60.5
kgs, and won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. In his final
campaign in the autumn of 1973 he won the Blamey
Stakes and a second Queen Elizabeth Stakes. There is
a memorial here to this great horse which we will see.

the city. We have planned a fascinating historical
excursion this afternoon. Our route takes us from Burj

centre.
We will then be returned to the resort with time to relax

Sunday 17 May 2015
We say farewell to London for the moment and enjoy
a visit to Chartwell where Sir Winston Churchill lived
with his wife until his death in 1965. Now owned by
the National Trust, the house and gardens have been
beautifully preserved.
Later travel a short distance to visit Hever Castle for a
Small Group Sightseeing experience with the gardeners
to see these award-winning formal gardens. Each
garden has its own style and character, from the giant
topiary chess set and herb collection of the Tudor Garden

classical statuary in the Italian Garden. The celebrated
Rose Garden contains over 4,000 roses within its walls,
and there’s an impressive herbaceous border stretching
over 100 metres.
We will also have an included ticket to see inside the
castle itself at our own pace. The oldest part of the
castle dates to 1270 and it has become well known
as the childhood home of its most famous inhabitant,
Anne Boleyn – wife of Henry VIII. It later passed into the

vineyard is set in 22 acres on a gentle south facing slope
in a shallow sheltered valley. Ten varieties of grapes
are grown to produce White, Red, Rosé and Quality
Sparkling wines. Traditional Kentish ciders have also
been made here for over 20 years together with farm
pressed apple juices. The visit includes a vineyard walk,

a place of pilgrimage for Christians worldwide and
this pilgrimage later provided the theme for Geoffrey
Chaucer’s 14th-century literary classic The Canterbury
Tales. We have free time to explore the city before

enjoyed a reputation for elegance, fun and architecture.
Brighton has many fine Regency buildings, most notably

for interesting items in The Lanes.
“The Lanes” form a retail, leisure and residential area
near the seafront, characterised by narrow alleyways
following the street pattern of the original fishing village
and contain clothing stores, jewellers, antique shops,
restaurants and pubs. Perhaps enjoy fish and chips for
lunch (own expense) before returning to Eastbourne.
This afternoon we might like to consider an optional

extensive refurbishment in the last century has made it

and a variety of rare trees and shrubs. The magnificent
landscaping of the garden was laid out in the 18th
Century by Capability Brown. We then enjoy a ride
on one of England’s most famous steam trains – the
Bluebell Railway. The Bluebell Railway is a heritage line
running along the border between East and West Sussex
and is managed and run largely by volunteers. It has the

Following breakfast we begin our sightseeing tour of
the city. Townsville is Australia’s largest urban centre

North Queensland, the city was named after the Sydney
entrepreneur Robert Towns who provided early financial
assistance to the town.
Next we visit Reef HQ, a federally run venue showing off
fish and animals only found on the Great Barrier Reef. We
will be given a talk by the Aquarist, including a visit to the
turtle hospital. We then head to the Museum of Tropical
Queensland. This is a world-class facility showcasing
the history and heritage of the North Queensland region.
Learn the fascinating story of the HMS Pandora, the ship
that chased the Bounty mutineers, only to be wrecked on
the Great Barrier Reef in 1791. After some time for lunch
(own expense) we head out to visit the RAAF Museum.
Originally set up as a base for the US Army Air Force,
it seemed natural to continue its use as a RAAF base
after the war. The museum is located on base, featuring

Friday 17th – Sunday 19th July 2015
The Sunshine Coast is a great area for Markets and
we make the most of our weekend here visiting two
of the largest – Eumundi and Caloundra!
It was 1979 when ceramic artist Christa Barton
and her friend Gail Perry-Somers came up with
the idea of holding a European style “artisans and
farmers” market in Eumundi. The area had become
a home for artisans, craftspeople and refugees
from suburbia. What attracted people then, as now,
was the town’s openness, sense of community
and a simpler way of life. Over the years, several
independent organisations, including the Eumundi
and District Community Association, have also set
up other market operations adjacent to The Original
Eumundi Markets, making the overall Eumundi
Markets now the biggest art and craft market in
Australia.
It’s much the same story with Caloundra - in what
began in 2002 as a community market designed to
enliven the main street on a Sunday, the Street Fair
now attracts thousands of visitors each week who
flock to enjoy the vibrant and colourful atmosphere
of a market. Join us on our Market Tour!

Itinerary
DAY 1 (LD): TOOWOOMBA TO THE SUNSHINE COAST
Friday 17 July 2015
Welcome to our short getaway to the beautiful Sunshine
Coast. This morning we head north through Esk and
Kilcoy to the Blackall Range. We stop at the Mary
Cairncross Scenic Reserve on the southern edge of the
Blackall Range, overlooking the unique formations of
the Glasshouse Mountains – spectacular – don’t forget
to bring the camera! From here, we make our way
north along the range, taking in the beautiful vistas.
We continue through to Montville, probably the most
well-known village along the range. First established in
1887, Montville today is a place to step back in time
and enjoy the tranquillity of village life in a streetscape
unique to any other tourist centre in Australia. We’ll enjoy
lunch then have some free time to browse the many arts
and crafts shops.
At the northern end of the Range, we stop at Dulong
Lookout for the last of the breathtaking views. After a
great first day, we check in to our lovely accommodation
for the next two nights.
Oaks Oasis Resort, Caloundra
DAY 2 (BLD): EUMUNDI
Saturday 18 July 2015
Following a hearty breakfast, we’re off to the famous
Eumundi Markets. The twice weekly street markets held
in the small village of Eumundi are as popular with the
locals as they are with visitors to the Sunshine Coast.
The town itself is very attractive – the main street is tree
lined and features many fine examples of buildings that
were constructed between 1890 and 1930. 300 stalls
of various handcrafts and produce are controlled by a
strict market policy – you can sell your goods if you
“can make it, bake it, sew it or grow it”. As a result a very

Option 1: 27 Days, Townsville - Kimberley - Broome
- Darwin - Cairns -Townsville
Option 2: 17 Days, Townsville - Broome - Darwin
Option 3: 10 Days, Darwin - Townsville
Peters’ big tour for 2015 is a true adventure through
the Kimberley in Western Australia, the Top End of
Northern Territory and the outback of Queensland.
Australia’s last frontier is a wild land of remote,
spectacular scenery spread over huge distances,
with a severe climate, a sparse population and
minimal infrastructure. Larger than 75% of the
world’s countries, the Kimberley is hemmed by
impenetrable coastline and unforgiving deserts. In
between lie vast boab-studded spinifex plains, palmfringed gorges, strange rock formations and desolate
mountains.
12
The region starts at Kununurra, with its irrigation
miracle and ends at swashbuckling Broome, home
to the iconic Cable Beach with its camel-tinged
sunsets! In The Top End, we explore Darwin. While
a sophisticated modern city, it is also one steeped
in history and we learn a bit about that history
while we’re here. We then head into the Top End’s
most important asset – the World Heritage Listed
Kakadu National Park to experience much that it
has to offer. From Katherine, we begin our journey
home, travelling to Cape Crawford and staying at
the Heartbreak Hotel – they say the hotel has been
“heartbreaking” for every owner who has had her.
While we’re here, we fly over the little known Lost
City – truly a natural wonder. We drive up to the
Gulf of Carpentaria and explore the area before
heading to Cairns and the coast. What a tour!
Come and join us on this once in a lifetime holiday!
high quality of original product is on offer. We will spend
the morning at the markets and have some free time
to explore the village. From here we head to Australia’s
only Ginger Factory! As well as being our lunch venue,
we will see the audio visual display tracing the life of
ginger from planting to final use, see ginger growing in
the patch and then view the factory from the observation
deck to see production. We also enjoy our Taste of
Ginger tour before riding on the Ginger train. We return to
our hotel with plenty of time to freshen up before dinner.
Oaks Oasis Resort, Caloundra
DAY 3 (BL): HOMEWARD BOUND
Sunday 19 July 2015
We farewell our hosts this morning after completing our
check-out procedures. Just down the road, we’ll find the
Caloundra Street Fair. This market is made up of 200
stallholders each week that are hand selected, ensuring
a wide variety of products, well-being services and
food options are showcased. It also features a range of
local performers every week ranging from well-known
established performers to emerging artists across a
range of music genres, performance and street theatre.
We’ll have plenty of time to wander through the
market, perhaps stopping for a morning cuppa before
continuing with our retail therapy! Late morning, we’ll
reboard our coach to transfer to the Caloundra RSL for
lunch. Unfortunately, our short holiday is coming to an
end as we begin our journey home. We arrive back in
Toowoomba late afternoon to complete a fantastic short
break!

Itinerary
DAY 1 (D): TO TOWNSVILLE/CHARTERS TOWERS
Saturday 25 July, 2015
This morning we’ll make our way to Townsville where
we’ll join our luxury Peters Coach. We begin our journey
this afternoon as we head to Charters Towers – a
gold mining city that is big on history and character.
From a chance discovery of gold in 1871, Charters
Towers was soon turned into a bustling metropolis,
which in its heyday, boasted being the second largest
city in Queensland. On arrival we check into our
accommodation and enjoy our first dinner together.
Cattleman’s Rest Motor Inn, Charters Towers
DAY 2 (BLD): CHARTERS TOWERS TO MT. ISA
Sunday 26 July, 2015
Following a hearty breakfast, we’re on the road again.
This morning we head into “dinosaur country”, through
Hughenden and onto Richmond, which is known as the
“Fossil Capital of Australia”. Here we stop for our packed
lunches in the local park. This afternoon we continue our
travels west through Julia Creek to Mt Isa.
Burke & Wills Mount Isa
DAY 3 (BLD): MT ISA TO TENNANT CREEK
Monday 27 July, 2015
Mount Isa is a mining town dominated by the huge Mt
Isa Mine. The underground mine contributes to around
80 percent of Queensland and 47 percent of Australia’s
copper production and is amongst the ten largest in the
world. It also produces silver, lead and zinc in quantities
that makes it the world’s largest single mine for these
metals. In actual area, the City of Mt Isa is the largest
in the world stretching to Camooweal on the Northern
Territory border.
Today is a travel day so sit back and relax as we continue
west on the Barkly Highway and cross the border into the
Northern Territory. We will stop en-route for breaks and
find a suitable spot to enjoy our picnic lunches. Joining
the Stuart Highway – the famous north south highway
named after explorer John McDowall Stuart, we arrive
into the old gold mining town of Tennant Creek for the
night.
Bluestone Motor Inn, Tennant Creek
DAY 4 (BLD): TENNANT CREEK TO MATARANKA
Tuesday 28 July, 2015
We have an early start this morning to make the most
of our stay in Mataranka. Our journey today takes us
through Renner Springs and Elliot with a stop at Daly
Waters for lunch. The Daly Waters Pub is the oldest in
the Northern Territory and in the 1930s its international
airfield, Australia’s first, was where the fledgling
Australian airline QANTAS stopped for re-fuelling. We
then travel onto Mataranka where we can enjoy the
fantastic mineral pools.
Territory Manor, Mataranka
DAY 5 (BLD): MATARANKA TO KUNUNURRA
Wednesday 29 July, 2015
This morning, we continue up to Katherine – we’ll be
returning here so today we head west. We travel through
Victoria River Crossing and Timber Creek at the northern
edge of the Gregory National Park. The park covers
12,500 square kilometres and is in a transitional zone
between tropical and semi arid regions. We cross the
border into Western Australia which is the largest state
in the country and covers approximately one third of the
whole of Australia.
Because of the time change into W.A., we’ll take a brief
look around Kununurra before checking into our next
two nights accommodation. Kununurra was originally
established as the residential and administrative centre
of the Ord River Scheme - a huge irrigation scheme
which was developed in the 1970s. Our sightseeing will
include the drive out to historic Ivanhoe Crossing, the
old concrete causeway over the Ord River. To finish off
our day, we drive to Kelly’s Knob to enjoy the sunset – in
case you didn’t know, Kununurra has the best sunsets in
Australia – or so the locals say!
Kununurra Lakeside Resort
DAY 6 (BLD): EXPLORING KUNUNURRA
Thursday 30 July, 2015
This morning we have time for optional flights over
Purnululu National Park ex Kununurra (early morning is
the best time to fly over the Bungle Bungles). For the rest
of us, we have a more leisurely breakfast. For anyone
who wants some “down time” after our travelling days,
you can do so this morning – otherwise come into town
to explore and pick up some souvenirs. Kununurra has
several art galleries such as the Artopia Gallery which
has a range of works of local artists - make sure to
see the 32 square metre “Beyond the Beehives” mural
painted by artist Nadeen Lovell.
If anyone wants to look at diamonds, then once again,
Kununurra town centre is the place to be - Kimberley
Fine Diamonds has one of Australia’s biggest selections
of coloured diamonds, including pink diamonds. Those
are so rare that most people will probably never see one
(as we will learn when we visit the Argyle Diamond Mine
– it’s the only mine in the world that produces them).
Early afternoon, we drive to the Lake Argyle Tourist
Village for a light lunch. The Ord River Scheme was a
progressive and far sighted move to develop the tropical
north of Western Australia. During “the wet’ the rivers
of the East Kimberley become raging torrents. At times
the Ord River can empty 50 million litres a second
into the Cambridge Gulf! One of the many highlights
of our tour to the East Kimberley will be our cruise this
afternoon from below the massive wall of Lake Argyle
into Lake Kununurra and onto our motel, 55 kilometres
downstream.
Kununurra Lakeside Resort
DAY 7 (BLD): KUNUNURRA TO FITZROY CROSSING
Friday 31 July, 2015
Today is a travel day as we drive through the magnificent
scenery of the Carboyd Ranges. Our lunch stop is in
Halls Creek before continuing to Fitzroy Crossing.
Fitzroy River Lodge, Fitzroy Crossing
DAY 8 (BD): FITZROY CROSSING TO BROOME
Saturday 1 August, 2015
This morning we drive to nearby Geikie Gorge where
we take a cruise through this spectacular landscape.
The Fitzroy River has carved its path through the fossil
“Barrier Reef” formed 300 million years ago, resulting
in mountainous cliffs and breathtaking scenery. Our
destination today is Broome – we can purchase our late
lunch at the Willare Bridge Roadhouse before the last
leg of our journey into Broome. Broome is situated on
the coast at the southern tip of the Kimberley region. It
is bounded by wide sandy beaches and turquoise water
and enjoys a warm climate with plenty of sunshine.
The Oaks, Broome
DAY 9 (BD): EXPLORING BROOME
Sunday 2 August, 2015
This morning, we’ll explore this romantic town of the
north west, with its history entrenched in the pearling
industry. We’ll see the red rocks of Gantheaume Point,
the port area and we take a drive through Chinatown
with the jetty and pass by The Sun Pictures building, the
open air theatre owned by the Yamsaki family.
The discovery of rich pearling grounds off the coast in
the 1880s led to the foundation of Broome township
in 1883. By 1910 Broome was the world’s leading
pearling centre. It’s therefore appropriate to visit the
fascinating attraction, Pearl Luggers. It’s often said that
Broome’s pearling industry is as rich in culture as it is
in pearls. We’ll be taken through an exciting array of
pearling equipment with memorabilia from actual hard
hat diving suits to the hand powered pumps which fed
precious air to the divers below. To hear the stories first
hand is a memorable experience. We have the rest of the
day to do as we please – perhaps some pearl shopping
from one of the many outlets in Chinatown or just relax
and enjoy the resorts facilities.
We have a very special dinner planned this evening.
Just before sunset, we arrive at the famous Cable Beach
for a unique photo opportunity before our special dinner
at Cable Beach.
The Oaks, Broome
DAY 10 (BD): FREE DAY IN BROOME
Monday 3 August, 2015
Today is a totally free day. Relax at the resort, shop for
pearls, take a Hovercraft Cruise, ride a camel on Cable
Beach or visit Willie Creek Pearl Farm.
Alternatively, take a flight to Cape Leveque. (All tours are
optional and at own expense). We meet up for dinner to
discuss our day’s activities.
The Oaks, Broome
DAY 11 (BD): BROOME TO DERBY
Tuesday 4 August, 2015
Following breakfast and our check-out procedures we
have some time for some more touring before leaving
Broome. This morning we will take time to wander
through the Japanese Cemetery. The cemetery dates
back to the very early pearling days and bears witness
to the close ties Japan established with Broome in the
early 20th. century. The first recorded internment in this
cemetery is 1896. Literally hundreds of young Japanese
divers died either from the bends (divers paralysis) or
from drowning. A large stone obelisk in the cemetery
recalls those who were drowned at sea in the 1908
cyclone.
We now begin our journey back through the Kimberley.
Once again we stop to purchase lunch at the Willare
13
Bridge Roadhouse, but then make our way north
towards Derby. We see the famous Boab Prison tree, 7
miles south of Derby, which was used in the early days
as an overnight lock up for prisoners before the final trek
into Derby. Capable of holding a number of prisoners, it
has an entrance which is about one metre wide and two
metres high. Have your photo taken in front of the water
tough – at 120m long and 1.2m wide, locals claim it
is the biggest water trough in the southern hemisphere.
We arrive in Derby with some time to have a look
around. We see the Derby Jetty (where both ends meet
the shore) and can stretch our legs with a walk if anyone
wishes.
Spinifex Hotel, Derby
DAY 12 (BLD): DERBY TO HALLS CREEK
Wednesday 5 August, 2015
Today we return to Fitzroy Crossing where we enjoy
lunch at the lodge. Our afternoon’s journey sees us
driving back to Halls Creek where we stay the night.
Road and weather conditions permitting, we take a brief
look at The Walls of China before checking into our
accommodation.
Kimberley Hotel, Halls Creek
DAY 13 (BLD): HALLS CREEK TO KUNUNURRA
Thursday 6 August, 2015
This morning we travel to the Argyle Diamond Mine
where we meet a guide for a tour of the mine. The Argyle
Diamond has put Australia on top as the world’s biggest
diamond producer. It is Australia’s only major diamond
producer, producing the extremely rare and valuable
pink diamonds, as well as fine whites and intriguing
champagne and cognac diamonds. The Argyle Diamond
Mine is one of the most technologically advanced mines
in the world. After the mine tour and lunch, we continue
to Kununurra.
Ibis Kununurra
DAY 14 (BLD): KUNUNURRA TO KATHERINE
Friday 7 August, 2015
Our journey today takes us back across the border into
the Northern Territory. We stop for lunch at Timber Creek
and a comfort stop at Victoria River before continuing
into Katherine.
Knotts Crossing Resort, Katherine
DAY 15 (BLD): KATHERINE TO DARWIN
Saturday 8 August, 2015
We’ll return to Katherine to enjoy the gorge cruise so
today we’ll make the most of our time in Litchfield
National Park. This morning, we make our way north
through Pine Creek on the way to Litchfield. The
65,000ha National Park with its untouched rainforests,
hot springs, magnificent waterfalls and stunning scenery
has gained the reputation as the jewel of the Northern
Territory’s crown.
We’ll head straight to lunch at the Litchfield Café, then
enjoy some touring in the park. There are some great
photo opportunities and we stop to see the magnetic
anthills and the magnificent Florence Falls from the
lookout platform. We then drive into Darwin for our next
two nights accommodation. Late afternoon, we transfer
to Cullen Bay for dinner at Seafood on Cullen whilst
watching the sun set. For those of us who cannot eat
seafood, alternative dishes are offered.
DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade Darwin
DAY 16 (B): EXPLORING DARWIN
Sunday 9 August, 2015
We enjoy a hearty breakfast before we explore Darwin
with a tour of the city sights. Many people aren’t aware
of the importance of Darwin during World War II so we’ll
14
look at the city as it is today and also learn about the
involvement and history of the bombings of Darwin.
The present city centre was established in 1869 and
contains many of its remaining historic buildings such
as the Old Court House and Government House. We see
the new Parliament House built on the site of the Darwin
Post Office bombed during the war, the port area plus
the many other fascinating sights of Australia’s northern
gateway.
We then take a drive through Fannie Bay, popular with
sailors, windsurfers and water skiers to East Point where
we visit the Military Museum. Here we discover how the
Japanese raids on Darwin were kept a secret from the
Australian population and have now been made public.
Returning to our hotel, we have the rest of the day to
relax and enjoy the resort facilities – perhaps a dip in the
pool or some retail therapy.
We are lucky enough to be in Darwin on a Sunday night
so we transfer to the Mindil Beach Sunset Market – it is a
major social event and this fabulous local market offers
over 200 stalls with nearly 60 food stalls from more
than 30 different countries.
Dinner is at our own expense tonight so why not try
some Top End delicacies – barramundi, crocodile,
kangaroo and many others and see some local artifacts.
At a nominated time, we transfer back to the hotel – it
won’t be a late night as some of us are off to Kakadu
tomorrow morning!
DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade Darwin
DAY 17 (B): HOMEWARD BOUND FOR SOME OF US
Monday 10 August, 2015
For those of us who are heading home today, we can
enjoy a leisurely breakfast before our transfer to the
Airport. We arrive home with some wonderful memories
of a great holiday!
DAY 17 (BD): DARWIN
Monday 10 August, 2015
For those joining us or continuing on with our adventure,
we have a day at leisure. Take in some personal
sightseeing, enjoy some retail therapy or perhaps, just
relax by the pool and use the hotel’s facilities. We will
meet up tonight to discuss our day’s activities.
DoubleTree by Hilton Esplanade Darwin
DAY 18 (BLD): DARWIN TO KAKADU
Tuesday 11 August, 2015
For those of us continuing on with our adventure, we
have an early start today to make the most of our time in
Kakadu. This morning, we head down the Stuart Highway
to join the Arnhem Highway – our destination today is
the Top End’s most important asset – the World Heritage
Listed Kakadu National Park. Aborigines have inhabited
the land for more than 50,000 years, leaving behind
incredible galleries of rock art - more than 5000 sites
of historical or cultural importance have been identified,
though only a few are open to visitors. Add Kakadu’s
magnificent scenery, unique flora and fauna, and you
have one of the world’s greatest natural wonders. Our
first stop on our way to Kakadu is the fabulous Jumping
Crocodile Cruise.
See powerful saltwater crocodiles as they propel
themselves high out of the water to snatch their prey.
With the help of experienced guides we learn more about
these magnificent creatures, and have the opportunity to
watch crocs jump for food from the safety of our boat.
Back on dry land, we head into the park and drive to Ubirr
Rock – the site of one of the best and most accessible
rock art galleries in the park.
The Main Gallery is an easy 1k walk from the car park
and contains examples of mouth sprayed hand stencils,
hunters carrying spears and fish, birds and animals
presented in x-ray style, revealing internal organs and
bone structures. Our late lunch stop is at Bowali Visitors
Centre. Our afternoon touring takes in Nourlangie Rock
for a short walk and to view more examples of ancient
aboriginal art. From here, it isn’t far to our overnight
accommodation, where we can check in and have some
time to relax before dinner.
Gagadju Lodge, Cooinda, Kakadu National Park
DAY 19 (BLD): KAKADU TO KATHERINE
Wednesday 12 August, 2015
One of the highlights of this tour will be the Yellow
Waters Sunrise Cruise so it’s well worth the early start.
Don’t forget to bring a camera because as we cruise on
the Yellow Waters Billabong we’ll see a large number
of birds and hopefully some crocodiles resting on the
muddy banks. After this sensational cruise, we return to
our accommodation for our breakfast, then take our time
to pack our bags.
On the way out of Cooinda, we stop at Warradjan
Aboriginal Cultural Centre. The Aboriginal traditional land
owners of Kakadu National Park have wanted to tell the
story about their culture for a long time. Through the
displays and exhibitions we can gain an understanding
of the Bininj and their country.
The Gallery is definitely worth looking at as well. We now
head out of the park to Pine Creek for our early lunch.
This afternoon, we travel to Katherine where we have
time to settle into our accommodation.
A visit to Katherine would not be complete without a
cruise through Katherine Gorge and tonight we do it in
style as we join the Nabilil Dreaming Sunset Cruise. Sit
back and relax as the tranquil surroundings transport
us into a spiritual world of Jawoyn culture and history.
Discover the music, stories and ways of the Jawoyn
against a magnificent backdrop of cliff faces changing
with the setting sun. Experience the spectacular beauty
of the gorge by candlelight whilst enjoying a delicious
smorgasbord dinner. Two cruises in one day? – they
couldn’t be more different!!
Knotts Crossing Resort, Katherine
DAY 20 (BLD): KATHERINE TO CAPE CRAWFORD
Thursday 13 August 2015
We have quite a way to travel today however tomorrow
will be more leisurely! We drive south and again notice
that the countryside begins to change dramatically as we
leave the tropics behind us. We continue to Daly Waters
where we once again enjoy lunch and the hospitality at
the famous pub. We then join the Carpentaria Highway
and head east to one of the most magnificent wilderness
eco areas in Australia.
And our accommodation is quite unique too – the
Heartbreak Hotel! They say the hotel has been
“heartbreaking” for every owner who has had her! But
this hotel is an institution – a truly genuine representation
of the Australian Outback. We’ll arrive quite late, have
dinner and retire to bed.
Heart Break Hotel, Mount Crawford
DAY 21 (BLD): EXPLORING MCARTHUR RIVER
Friday 14 August, 2015
We have the chance to sleep in and enjoy a leisurely
breakfast this morning. HOWEVER, one of the best things
to do in this area is to take a helicopter flight over the
Lost City. (This flight is optional and at own expense –
please advise when booking if you wish to take this offer
up.) We will be overwhelmed by the ancient columns
of sandstone, truly a natural wonder. This tour is only
accessible by helicopter.
Our flight takes us over the Abner Escarpment onto a
plateau of the Abner Ranges situated on McArthur
River Station. From the air we will see exactly how
these natural sky scrapers were formed. The area was
once an inland sea, the water seeped into the rock and
eroded it, breaking it into columns up to 25m tall. At
1.4 billion years in the making, these rocks are some
of the oldest in the world. They consist of 95% silica
and are held together by an outer crust made mainly of
iron, giving them their red colour. The helicopter doesn’t
have any doors for better visibility and great aerial photo
opportunities (any squeamish flyers are advised to take
the middle seat!).
Mid morning, we begin our days travel with packed
lunches onboard. At nearly 380kms, it’s a fair stretch
from the Heartbreak to Barkly Homestead but it’s an
interesting drive with plenty of places to pull up for a rest.
It’s bitumen all the way but unfenced – and there could
be some cattle on the road. It was around here that the
famous Captain Starlight was the first to stock what is
now some of the finest cattle country in Australia.
We pass through Brunette Downs, known around these
parts for the ABC Race Club’s Brunette Downs Races!
As we continue through the vast Mitchell Grass plains
we’ll see hundreds of termite mounds, spiking up like
crocodile teeth from the earth for hundreds and hundreds
of acres.
Barkly Homestead
town is located on the mouth of the Norman River and
is now the centre of the prawning industry in the Gulf of
Carpentaria. A barramundi fishing industry operates out
of the town so later this afternoon we take a guided tour
of the Barramundi Discovery Centre.
Our last activity will surely be one of the highlights of
our tour. We board the Crab & Croc Cruise to watch the
sky and sea turn into fire with this peaceful and relaxing
cruise.
We’ll sip on a glass of wine and enjoy some canapes
including some freshly cooked Gulf Prawns and a tropical
fruit platter as the sun sets. We return to Normantan later
this evening to enjoy some hot soup and crusty bread
for supper.
Gulfland Motel, Normanton
DAY 23 (BLD): MT. ISA TO NORMANTON
Sunday 16 August 2015
We are on the road again this morning. We travel to
Cloncurry where we stop for our morning tea break.
Cloncurry has a name for being Australia’s hottest spot
(one of the reasons we are travelling during the winter
months!). We now head north to the Burke & Wills Road
House where we stop for lunch. Our afternoon journey
takes us via Bang Bang to Normanton for our next two
night stay.
Gulfland Motel, Normanton
DAY 25 (BLD): NORMANTON TO UNDARA
Tuesday 18 August 2015
We’ll be refreshed and ready for our journey today. We’ll
have a look at the Normanton Railway Station which is
a classic example of Victorian architecture and it’s here
that we board the Gulflander which is a quite famous
train that still runs from Normanton to Croydon. Our ride
today takes us only as far as Critters Camp where our
coach will meet us.
After morning tea from the coach, we head east along
the Gulf Developmental Road to Croydon. This old gold
mining town was once the biggest in the Gulf and today
it still has some interesting buildings. It was reckoned
that there were once 50,000 gold mines in the area
and reminders of these are scattered all around the
countryside. There is a bit of a resurgence of gold mining
in the area again today with new technology making it
feasible to rework the old diggings.
After lunch, we travel through Georgetown and Mt.
Surprise before making our way to Undara for our
overnight accommodation. The Lava Lodge is set in
thousands of square kms of pristine tropical Savannah
woodlands.
Our accommodation tonight is in specially restored
antique railway carriages nestled in the bush and our
dinner this evening features some of the region’s best
produce! (Please note that the railway carriages share a
facilities block.)
Undara Lava Lodge, Undara
DAY 24 (BLD): KARUMBA
Monday 17 August 2015
We enjoy a lazy morning starting with a leisurely
breakfast before a look around Normanton – we can
see the historic Burns Philp buildings, the National
Hotel (the purple pub!) and a photo opportunity with
Kris (Australia’s largest saltwater croc) before heading
to Karumba. Here we’ll have our “fish ‘n chip” lunch at
Ash’s Café the Point.
Karumba is the easiest point of access to the Gulf. A
telegraph station was established here in 1870 and
during the 1930s the Royal Mail Service operated
Empire Flying boats from here to Asia and Europe. The
DAY 26 (BD): UNDARA TO CAIRNS
Wednesday 19 August 2015
We have arranged a morning tour of the Undara Lava
Tubes to view these amazing underground tunnels.
Formed thousand of years ago when the volcano Undara
erupted, the tunnels were gouged out by the lava flow.
From here we drive to the Atherton Tablelands. We stop
to purchase lunch in one of the villages and we’ll also
visit the Curtain Fig Tree.
To count the tangled roots of the Curtain Fig would take a
week. Its curtain of aerial roots drop 15 metres (49 feet)
to the ground. Large basalt boulders cover the forest floor,
which is probably why the forest here wasn’t cleared for
DAY 22 (BD): BARKLY TO MT. ISA
Saturday 15 August 2015
Our destination today is Mt Isa. On our arrival, we’ll have

DAY 3 (BL): TOOWOOMBA
Sunday 20 September 2015
Following a hearty breakfast we set out for a day of
touring. We stop to visit some of the beautiful public
gardens for which the city is renowned. Queens Park

gardening designs of a particularly English nature and
is home to stately old trees many of which are more
than 100 years old. We also visit the entirely different
Laurel Bank Scented Gardens, which is a gracious park
designed specifically for the blind.
For lunch we make our way to Toowoomba’s most
notable tourist attraction, the Cobb & Co Museum
which is part of the Queensland Museum. It is more
comprehensive than its name suggests. It traces the
history of horse drawn transportation in Australia from
old timber wagons, spring wagons, and bullock drays
through to the Cobb & Co coaches and the elegant
Victoria and a landau used by the Duke of Edinburgh
when he visited the colony in 1876. We enjoy lunch
here with time to explore the museum.
This afternoon we make our way out to Spring Bluff, with
its beautiful railway station (established in1867). The
station has won many awards for its gardens that come
alive each spring and summer with mass displays of
flowering annuals.
Next we visit the State Rose Garden, Newton Park which
has more than 1500 roses and growing. The Rosarium
is being continually upgraded as a living memorial to
the people of the city and the district in general. After
having some time here at leisure we head to Brindabella
Gardens, a 4 acre English Style garden filled with
perfumed roses, cottage perennials, and rare plant
specimens. After a fantastic day filled with beautiful
perfumes and colour we return to our hotel with time to

Saturday 31st October – Thursday 5th
November 2015
Dubbo- one of Australia’s largest cities - is situated
in the geographical heart of NSW and has a history
that goes back more than 180 years.
The city’s colourful history began just 30 years after
the arrival of the First Fleet when in 1817 and 1818
explorer John Oxley documented and reported the
rich grazing and farming potential of the area known
today as Dubbo city.
Situated on the Macquarie River, 400ks west of
Sydney, Dubbo - from the aboriginal word meaning
“red earth”- has plenty to offer. Its largest and most
popular attraction is the Taronga Western Plains
Zoo. Run by the Taronga Conservation Society of
Australia, it’s much more than a zoo – it’s an African
Safari – and during our tour we are going to stay
overnight in their Zoofari Accommodation.
Our stay will be under canvas, in a luxurious lodge,
surrounded by the strange and mysterious sounds
of the African night! Self-contained accommodation
with ensuite bathrooms, Zoofari Lodge is a unique
retreat located within the grounds of Taronga
Western Plains Zoo and provides magical up close
experiences with wildlife from all over the world.
Highlights
• The Lime Grove
•Narromine Aviation Museum

DAY 2 (BLD): NARRABRI TO DUBBO
Sunday 1 November 2015
We have an early start to the day today. We continue our
travels on the Newell Highway through Coonabarabran
and Dubbo into Narromine – on the Macquarie River.
There are some interesting things to see here. We head
to The Lime Grove – the largest lime orchard in Australia.
We have arranged a light lunch in their café followed by
a brief tour and a visit to their produce shop.
Next on our list is to Narromine Aviation Museum at the
local airport. The Narromine aerodrome, constructed
after World War I, is home to the oldest country aero
club in the Australia. Over 2000 pilots lived and trained
in Narromine during World War II. Visitors have included
Charles Kingsford Smith, Charles Ulm, Chuck Yeager
and Nancy Bird Walton. It was used as a training station
for pilots in World War II.
Following time here we visit Andonbell’s Alpaca Farm.
They have an old Melbourne Train set up as a café where
we will enjoy a country style afternoon tea and an alpaca
shearing demonstration.
After our interesting day we head straight to the Western
Plains Zoo. The zoo is one of the largest in the world,
covering some 300 hectares, where animals live in
large natural areas behaving very much as they would in
the wild. The unique Zoofari Lodges here at the Western
Plains Zoo can only accommodate half our group at
a time so we are going to split! Half of us will check
into the Lodge and enjoy an itinerary that includes a
sunset safari this afternoon, a three course dinner in
the Main House and a Zoo under Spotlight Tour before
a nightcap (own expense) at around 9pm. It will be
a great experience! The rest of us will check-in to our
accommodation and relax before dinner.

Following the Bruce Highway north we travel to Mackay
and onto Airlie Beach in the Whitsundays. At Port of Airlie
(the marina that provides access from the mainland to
the Islands) we join the catamaran ferry service for the
transfer to Breakfree Long Island Resort. What a delightful
spot! We will be met at the wharf and transferred to
Resort Central for a welcome drink and a briefing on the
arrangements for our stay. Our accommodation for the
next 3 nights is in the Beach Front units – well-appointed
with walk in showers and balconies and – right opposite
the beach! Dinner tonight will be a buffet in the main
restaurant.

All our meals are provided during our stay on Long

you are feeling energetic. There is a free mini golf course
available to guests, some short guided and self-guided
walks, the beach is beautiful for a walk or a swim and
the bar, pool and shop are all inviting. We meet up to
celebrate Christmas together over Christmas Lunch with
all the trimmings. Perhaps time for an afternoon nap or
bird feeding and happy hour are on every day at around
5pm. And for the more energetic there are boats and
canoes to hire or perhaps the day spa.
(Breakfast and dinner in the resort, Christmas lunch
included)

DAY 4 (BLD): EXPLORING PROSERPINE
Saturday 26 December 2015
After breakfast this morning we connect with the
morning ferry service back to the mainland. We meet
up with Proserpine River Eco Tours for a unique nature
experience into the realm of the saltwater crocodile. But
it’s not all about crocs either! We’ll cruise the wetland
habitat, melaleuca forest and a mangrove ecosystem.
This habitat is home to many species of native birds,
mammals, reptiles and marine animals – including
about 200 estuarine crocodiles. We enjoy a morning tea
of Aussie Damper & Billy Tea prepared by our guides,
travel in an open-air wagon train through Goorganga
Wetlands and see the land as Captain Cook saw it. Our
tour also includes a calm water cruise on the Proserpine
River investigating the marine mangrove ecosystem
and we get the chance to see an estuarine (saltwater)
crocodile, rated as one of the most dangerous crocodiles
in the world. Our guides will also show us how to catch
the delicious Queensland Mud Crab and describe their
amazing features and this crab’s fascinating lifecycle
before releasing them back into the Proserpine River.
Lunch today is an appetizing Aussie BBQ lunch in the
covered campsite. We return to the marina in time for the
afternoon transfer back to the resort.
Breakfast and dinner in the resort, lunch included.
