The first one until bar 70 is supposed to be played very expressive and brassy (cuivré), where as the triads in the second part are to be played very cantabile with long phrasing. Solo is in a quite high register, so the player should reserve some strength for the end. Precise tempi are facilitated by the E-score which is serving as a metronome. - Note heads (besides ordinary there are following): - enter the note with a brassy sound - exit the note with a brassy sound - breathy sound - sing a given pitch into tuba - Curves: - tenuto extension line - rafale extension line - undulato extension line - vibrato extension line - triller extension line - bisbigliando extension line - flatterzunge extension line - growl extension line - Arrows: - gradual transition from one state into the other – electronics are being triggered by the pedal. In order to better see the triggering there is a vertical arrow pointing from the event in the score to the corresponding number. Triggering numbers are always enclosed in rectangular brackets. - Speed of curves: - proportional, every repetition is the same (used for rafale/blast) - sudden accelerando - sudden ritardando -short accelerando and ritardando ELECTRONICS - The input is recorded by a miniature microphone that can be attached to the outer bell of tuba (e.g. DPA 4099). The output is sent to eight loudspeakers evenly distributed in the room as well as to additional two loudspeakers set on the stage behind the player (see picture.1). The use of subwoofers is recomended but not mandatory. The concet patch is made in application MaxMsp (Version 6.0.4). All of the necessary files are contained in the folder Betes_de_sexe. After opening the patch it is sufficient to press "init" and to follow the exact pedaling. An external object called "munger~" is required for one of the effects.
