Mission Statement of Corpus Christi Church
We, the Catholic Parish of Corpus Christi within
the Archdiocese of New York, are “One Body of
Christ”. Our mission is to follow Christ’s example of love by which we are bound together with
the strength of the Holy Spirit. We incorporate
His teachings in our daily lives through corporal
and spiritual acts, and we reach out to others
with compassion, acceptance and love. This mission consists of proclamation, worship, community, and service.
“To accomplish this mission, we have been given
a share in the charism of the Salesian Family.
This charism gives shape and provides direction
and power for all we do, especially for youth.”
Like St. John Bosco, we believe in the power of
little things and in the significance of each member of our parish family. Actions that are most
dear to us include making everyone feel welcome
as part of a real family, enabling people to be the
best Christian men and women possible, and
helping one another feel the presence of our
Lord in all things. These actions are directed not
only to our own parish family members, but also
to those outside our parish, who are most in
need.

Tuesday evenings once a month from 7:45 to 9:15 pm at
either the Corpus Christi Teen Center or the Don Bosco
Community Center.
The schedule is as follows:
February10th, April 14th and June 9th sessions are held at

Every Life is a Gift
“Every life is a gift.” This is the theme for the 2015
March for Life to be held in Washington, DC on
Thursday, January 22nd. Many of us will not be able to
be physically present at the march; however, we can join
with all our brothers and sisters who value the dignity of
life with our prayers. Here at Corpus Christi Church
there will be an Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament
following the 12:00pm Mass, closing with Benediction at
2:20pm. Our school children will take turns spending
some quiet time with Jesus, praying for all the children
yet to be born. All our parishioners are welcome to join
with us praying before our Eucharistic Lord that the
sanctity and dignity of life be upheld and respected. It is
also the feast day of Blessed Laura Vicuna, a young pupil
of the Salesian Sisters in Argentina who understood the
value of life and offered her own life for the salvation of
her own mother. Every life is a gift to be respected and
cherished. Please join us in prayer and be united with all
those who work so earnestly to defend the gift of life at
all stages from conception to natural death.

How much do you know about
St. John Bosco?
Did you know that the Salesian Family celebrates
DonBosco’s 200th Birthday this coming August, 2015?
Wow! 1815-2015. Where was he born? How did he
start his great work that has spread all over the world?
Did he really do acrobatic tricks? How did he attract so
many young people to good and to God? What part did
his mother, Mamma Margherita and Mary, the Help of
Christians play in his life and in his mission.
Want answers? Save the date…..
Join us on Saturday, January 10th at 5:00pm or Sunday,
January 11th at 3:00pm in the cafeteria for the wonderful
movie, “St. John Bosco, Mission to Love.” It will be
offered in English and Spanish. It is a three hour movie.
Food and snacks will be served. All are invited, children
should be in at least the fifth grade to attend. You don’t
want to miss it so you too can join in this celebration!

Some Great Saints of the Week
THEME
SAINT HILARY - JANUARY 12
When new sod is put in, it needs constant satura on
with water. Landscapers say that this “knits” the sod
to the soil. The same when a branch is gra ed onto a
tree: the poul ce that joins them at the splice must
be kept wet at all mes. Water is the stuff that binds
the very cells of our bodies together. No wonder religions throughout all mes and cultures have used it so
prominently. When Jesus stepped into the Jordan for
bap sm, he “knit” himself to what had come before
him. By going to the Jordan, he made himself one
with the people of Israel who had crossed it into their
Promised Land. With John the Bap st, Christ wove
himself into the prophe c tradi on that heralded the
coming reign of God. He had become fully human in
the waters of Mary’s womb and by partaking in the
rite of the bap sm of repentance. Jesus iden fied
himself with our sinful, frail humanity. It is through
the waters of bap sm that Christ con nues to gra
new members onto His Body, the Church; through
these waters we are cleansed from sin and filled with
the promise of grace, given our des ny for eternal life.
For us, as for Jesus, it is also the waters of bap sm
that inaugurate our mission to proclaim the Good
News.
Elected bishop in Poi ers in 353 at the height of the Arian heresy, Hilary held true in the face of tremendous
opposi on. He was exiled to Turkey for his defense of
the orthodox faith. Upon his return, Hilary worked to
guide his brother bishops who had fallen prey to pressure from the Arians. Of Hilary, Pope Benedict XVI
wrote, “This was precisely his gi : to combine strength
in the faith and docility in interpersonal rela ons.” Hilary is known for his great work. On the Trinity as well as
commentaries on the Psalms and Ma hew’s Gospel. He
was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1851.
FIRST READING (Isaiah 42:1-4, 6-7)
Behold my servant with whom I am pleased; he shall
bring forth jus ce to the na ons.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM (Psalm 29)
The Lord will bless his people with peace.
SECOND READING (Acts 10:34-38)
God anointed him with the Holy Spirit.
THIRD READING (Mark 1:7-11)
You are my beloved Son, with you I am well pleased.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Why was Christ bap zed? A er all, He was born without original sin and He lived his en re life without sinning. In submi ng Himself humbly to Bap sm, He
provided the example for the rest of us. If even He
should be bap zed, how much more should the rest of
us be thankful for this sacrament, which frees us from
the darkness of sin and incorporates us in the Church,
the life of Christ on earth! His Bap sm, therefore was
necessary not for Him but for us!
SAINT ANTHONY - JANUARY 17
The first Chris an to “go out into the wilderness,” Anthony lived in the Egyp an desert in solitude for many
years. Saint Athanasius, who knew Anthony personally,
recorded his encounters with demons. Anthony considered all beings - human and angels, fallen or not - to
be creatures of God. Only sin, Anthony taught, gives the
devil power over a soul, Anthony’s strict life of prayer
and fas ng produced a gentle and pa ent wisdom, reflected in the sayings of the Desert Fathers. The fellow
hermits that came to live with him formed the beginnings of Chris an monas cism. Anthony died in 356.
CHUCKLE FOR THE DAY
An elderly woman walked into the local country church.
The friendly usher greeted her at the door and helped
her up the flight of steps. “Where would you like to
sit?” he asked politely. “The front row, please,” she
answered. “You really don’t want to do that,” the usher
said. “The Pastor is really boring.” “Do you happen to
know who I am?” the woman inquired. “No,” he said. “I
am the Pastor’s mother,” she replied indignantly. “Do
you know who I am?” he asked. “No,” she said.
“Good,” he answered.
