RANDOM THOUGHTS
AND OBSERVATIONS
HOLIDAY CHEER LACKING: We were quite dismayed
over the fact that none of the area towns put up Christmas
decorations this year, and very few of the shopping centers
had them displayed. County Line Plaza in Tequesta has their
old sad-looking light post attachments, but there was nothing
sparkling and few lights. We don’t recall having seen any
other plazas with them. The one exception was Harbourside
Place. Wow! They really went all out, so one would have to
give them credit. Did you see that huge tree in the central
court they erected? Splendid job! Few stores bothered to do
any decorating locally. What we saw was again - sparse.
There were quite a few decorations up in the neighborhoods,
but nothing particularly spectacular like in past years, and it
seemed like it was down this year. Greetings were also sparse,
at least that was our experience. What’s with everybody?
Where’s that old holiday spark we once knew? Let’s get that
old spirit going once again and keep it intact. I actually
received more greetings on my birthday than at Christmas.
Can you believe that? Hopefully, next year will be different.
Happy New Year everybody! May it be prosperous for you.

Better Business
Relationships
by Arlene Alpert, MS, LMHC
Licensed Psychotherapist &
Relationships Specialist
GROWTH VS STAGNATION
I don't remember when I knew deep inside myself that I
would never "march in place" and that I would "never give up,
no matter what!" I also don't recall when I promised myself to
be open to life's ebb and flow and to accept that risk (even
though unfamiliar territory is more intimidating) was far more
rewarding than living in my comfort zone.
However, I do know the moment I first made the choice to
decide on continued self-awareness as a means of
understanding myself more fully. It was during one of the long
weekends of training in a mind/body program I was a part of,
studying to become a psychotherapist. Sometime during my
second year (which was quite intense and demanding) I had an
insight about my willingness - actually I learned it was an
"inner drive" - to understand myself.
Although, at the beginning, developing knowledge about
myself was a means to become a more "enlightened" therapist,
it ended with my discovery of who I am under all the
unconscious layers of my defenses. One of our assignments
was to write our feelings about how we saw the world and
how that would impact our being a therapist. I wrote the way
some people do...not planning what I would say, just
spontaneously putting down on paper whatever came to my
mind.
I'll share with you the essence that came to me so many
years ago during one of those weekends of intense selfexamination: I realized I had a total commitment to continual
learning about my inner self. My "Aha" moment was grasping
my eariler unconscious decision to accept risk and the
unknown as the basis for personal evolvement.
My essay began with seeing myself at the base of a
mountain. I couldn't see the top, yet I began to climb
regardless. I wrote that I experienced many years going by as I
climbed ever upward. One part of me wondered why I had left
the warmth of home to venture out into the unknown;
however, a deeper strength inside knew I would continue my
climb (in good weather and bad). At the end of my tale, and
years later, I reached the top.
As I stood looking out at a seemingly never-ending
panorama and breathed in the rarified air, I felt free!
All I knew in that moment was that all the hard work, the
changing climate, the unknown...was all worth it. And, today,
in this place and in this time, it still is!

owner of Fassage, Jupiter
STILETTO HIGH HEELS, FOOT PAIN AND LOW BACK
PAIN
“I just want to email you from the bottom of my heart for helping to
heal my sciatica and low back pain! Going to two chiropractors did not
help; as a matter of fact, made matters worse! After three months of
extreme pain, to the point of tears, I was going to give up until a friend
told me about you and I came to see you! You have changed my life and
I can go about my normal day once again! You were SO in tune with
my body, my pain and where the root of the pain came from! After
weeks of seeing two different chiropractors neither one of them
bothered to look at my shoes and make the connection to a much bigger
problem! YOU, on the other hand, noticed my shoes on my second visit
and asked “HOW OFTEN do you wear these 4” high wedge heels?”
When I told you they were my staple for five years, at least six days a
week, you KNEW WHY I WAS IN SO MUCH PAIN. As soon as we
finished my second session of massage and I put my heels back on I
INSTANTLY FELT THE PAIN in my hip area again which confirmed
your theory on heels! You are brilliant! Or, as I have felt in the past,
you are a modern day Leonardo Da Vinci! I’m not sure what I would
have done without you! So, thank you again and I look forward to
telling everyone I know and love about you! You are a gift to us!! I now
wear my heels only once in a while to avoid any future pain!!” Love C
N
The client lay prone on the massage table and the body presented a
stress pattern to the right pelvis and down the entire right leg. The right
pelvis was medially rotated rather than lateral causing a restriction at
the exit of the sciatic nerve. The right foot and knee also presented a
medial rotation. What we normally don’t look for when treating low
back pain is the ankle joint and the Achilles tendon, Soleus muscle and
Gastrocnemius muscle. With so many women wearing high heel shoes
these days I find it necessary to treat whatever I find because these
muscles affect the legs, low back, diaphragm, neck and eyes just
because of the pressure that these muscles can hold. In this case the
Achilles tendon was so extremely shortened and tight that it was
embedded between the joint of the heel bone (calcaneus) and ankle
bone (talus). The Soleus and Gastrocnemius muscles were very thick
and heavy with lots of pressure within the fibers. These areas were all
treated and the client felt no pain afterwards until the “Stiletto High
Heels” were put back on.
Obviously the body presented the first layer of the yarn; however, we
must still treat the Sesamoid bones under the ball of the big toe due to
their involvement at the attachment at the base of the metatarsal of the

New Headquarters Showcases
Growing Chocolate Franchise
This Store Began in the Owner’s Home in 2003 and
has Developed into a Worldwide Chocolate Franchise
JUPITER -- Talk to Derri Cerbone, owner of the
international chocolate company, Tasty Image,
which just moved to new corporate headquarters at
75 E. Indiantown Road, unit #506. She will tell you
that starting a chocolate company with no business
background, but having a huge need to succeed and
an insufferable desire to make chocolate, has been a
rewarding trip.
“If I can do it, anybody can do it,” Cerbone told
this reporter in a recent interview. “Ms. Cerbone
was referring to the fact that she started out of her
home making chocolate and catering events back in
2003. The concept caught on and within two years,
a retail store was established in Tequesta. With
much intestinal fortitude the chocolate lady began to
franchise in 2010 and relocated to larger space in
Jupiter’s Chasewood Plaza. Tasty Image found a
way to print chocolate images and this concept has
been a large part of her
business and a perk for those
buying a franchise, because
her chocolate image printing
apparatus is patented and the
only one available.

With the relocation, the company has gained
nearly twice the square footage than they had in the
previous location. Coming from 1,300-square-feet
to 2,400-square-feet has allowed the addition of so
many more new amenities. Derri explained: “This
new store will serve as a showcase for our
franchising. We are hopeful it will draw more
interest here in the U. S. and abroad.” Tasty Image
has eight franchises abroad and several in the
United States, primarily in
South Carolina and Nevada.

Most people who have vision insurance will have a
benefit available as of January. Please let us know if we
can help you to maximize your benefits. Kim and
Colette are now experts in all of the vision insurances
and can help answer any questions you may have. We
accept most plans and know how to recommend the best
value available with your individual plan. Often the
vision insurance pays for a specific "add-on" and just
extends a copay to the patient. Expensive features end
up being quite affordable.
Also, we now have a one day disposable multifocal
contact lens available. This is so exciting to those of us
who are over 40 years old and either have allergies or
dry eyes, or both. The Proclear Multifocal One Day
contact lens from Cooper vision holds much promise for
our multifocal fans. The optics are quite sophisticated
for a one day lens....and yet the price point is quite
reasonable. Of course, convenience is also a plus.....one
days are disposed of nightly, so there is no need for
cumbersome solutions. They are perfect for traveling
and do not compromise quality. Patients who frequently
have allergies with contact lenses (due to a protein
build-up on the lens itself) are no longer having to
endure such an allergic response to their own tear's
proteins. With a lens that has such planned obsolescence,
patients are seeing clearer than ever. Proclear is known
for its soft hydrophilic materia,l so they are great for
those with dry eyes. Please let us know if you would
like to be evaluated to see if you are a candidate for this
revolutionary new contact lens. Cooper vision offers a
great rebate back on the Proclear Multifocal One
Day...so, if you order from our website you will receive
the discounts there, free shipping - plus the rebate.
We look forward to seeing you and are wishing you
the very best new year. Here's to 2015 being the best
year yet. Let's raise those "glasses" high!

which appeared in the July 26, 1920 edition.

OLD SPANISH PROVERB...
• If walking is good for your health, the postman
would be immortal.
• A whale swims all day, mainly eats fish, drinks water,
but is still fat.
• A rabbit runs and hops and only lives 15 years, while
a tortoise doesn't run and does mostly nothing, yet it
lives for 150 years.
And you tell me to exercise?? I don't think so.
Now that I'm older here's what I've discovered:
1. I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.
2. My wild oats are mostly enjoyed with prunes and
all-bran.
3. I finally got my head together, and now my body is
falling apart.
4. If all is not lost, then where the heck is it?
5. These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the
hereafter . . ... I go somewhere to get something, and
then wonder what I'm "here after".
THE CREDO OF LIFE...
"Work like you don't need the money, love like you've
never been hurt, and dance like you do when nobody's
watching."
2015 HANDBOOK, TOP EIGHT THINGS TO DO:
1. Drink plenty of water.
2. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat
less food that is manufactured in plants.
3. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the
present.
4. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or
joyful.
5. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
6. Don't overdo. Keep your limits.
7. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Don't
hate others.
8. Call your family often.
ACTUAL WARNING LABELS...
If I die, I forgive you. If I recover, we shall see.
1. On a can of pepper spray: “May irritate eyes.”
AS YOU GROW OLDER, DO YOU EVER THINK
LIKE THIS THIS?
2. On a knife set: “Never try to catch a falling knife.”
• As I was lying around, pondering the problems of the
world, I realized that at my age I don't really give a
bloody turnip anymore.
THE LAST WORD
• Don’t ever clean your car in San Francisco with used
underwear. It’s illegal.

Divorces are NO-FAULT, meaning that the reasons for the
divorce are irrelevant unless marital assets were expended

The purpose of ESTATE ADMINISTRATION is to collect and
liquidate the Decedent’s assets, pay creditors’ claims
against the Estate and distribute whatever remains to the

HIPAA is short for the Health Insurance Portability
Accountability Act and came into effect in 2005-2006. It is a
privacy law which prevents anyone, even your spouse, from
speaking to your doctors or accessing your medical
information. This is why it is so important to name a
HEALTH CARE SURROGATE (“HCS”) so that the Surrogate
of your choice can speak to your doctors, access your
records and make medical decisions on your behalf if you
are incapacitated and unable to do so for yourself. If you
don’t have a HCS and are incapacitated, then your family
will have to pursue a Guardianship in Court, which is
traumatic, time-consuming and much more expensive than
simply having the HCS.
A LIMITED GUARDIANSHIP only grants the Guardian

The Comfort Keeper
“Comforting Solutions for In-home Care”®
By Paul Cain, Ph.D
RESOLUTIONS
Many resolutions have been made in recent days. Some will be
kept, some will be forgotten. Others will wind up in the nebulous
regions of “in progress”.
Family caregivers have a particular challenge when it comes to
resolutions. It starts with something like, “I promised my mother we
would never put her in a nursing home…”
Caregivers help seniors maintain their sense of independence and
dignity by remaining in their own home. While this sounds simple,
it isn’t. Many resolutions for family caregivers this year will be, “I
need to find some help”.
If this resolution is yours, the following will be of some help in
getting started:
First, there are two kinds of caregivers; Companions and Aides.
While both will perform ‘homemaker services’, only Home Health
Aides or Certified Nursing Assistants are licensed to provide
‘personal care’. Personal Care pertains to the 6 Activities of Daily
Living (ADL’s); eating, bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing and
ambulation. Remember, only professional Home Health Aides (or
CNA’s) are trained and licensed for this kind of service.
Second, there are four levels of professionalism; Independents,
Companion Services, Contractors and Employees. An Independent
Caregiver will often come with references but not have any
insurance, training or license; a Companion service is not licensed
for personal care, so their caregiver cannot touch any one, thus
limiting their value; Contractors will be referred by a ‘Registry’
who will have done a background check, but they will be
responsible for their own basic insurance as well as tax withholdings
and not be covered by Workman’s Compensation. The Employee
will be provided by a ‘Home Health Agency’ and have full
screening, references, liability insurance, Workman’s Compensation,
bonding, supplemental driving insurance as well as company
management for scheduling and quality control.
Third, terms are like other services; there will be price differences,
but no one should ask for a long-term contract, although you will
most likely be asked for a retainer in advance. Billing will be hourly
and payment is usually handled on a weekly basis.
Finally, rates will range from 15 to 20 dollars per hour depending
on the type of caregiver, the number of hours and the level of
service you choose. Ask questions, compare, be clear on security
and coverage issues and know whether you are dealing with an
independent, a companion service, a registry or an agency before
you decide. Above all, know what form of business relation you are
creating.
Your Resolution to act should result in a lasting Resolution of
your challenge and an improvement of the quality of Your life going
forward in the New Year!

Healthful Hints
by Dan & Liz Brumer, R. Phs.
of Tequesta Drugs
IMPROVE YOUR CHOLESTEROL LEVELS
Cholesterol is a soft, waxy substance in your blood. It increases
your chance of heart disease, stroke, and other problems. Many things
may put you at risk for high cholesterol. You can’t control some of
these risks such as your age, gender, or family history. Fortunately,
the list of things you can control is longer: It includes your weight,
diet, exercise, blood sugar, and smoking.
Produce Grown Organically and Sustainably
Clean and Nutritional Food from Local, Small Farmers
• No Harmful
Pesticides
• No Fungicides
• Best Quality
Let’s take a look at what this might mean for you.
Maybe you’ve put on a few (or more than a few) pounds in the last
couple of years. Or your recent New Year’s resolution was shortlived, making that gym membership a bit of a waste! Don’t scold
yourself. Just start over.
The good news is some changes may give you a “twofer.” For
example, eating healthy foods can reduce the amount of cholesterol
you are taking into your body. It can also help you lose weight, which
lowers LDL (bad cholesterol).
Try eating:
·
More fresh fruits, vegetables, and other foods high in fiber
such as whole grains and beans
THINK LOCAL - Help Support Local Small Business

Alice's Farm Fresh Foods
·
Fewer foods that contain cholesterol, trans fats, or saturated
fats such as fatty meats and whole milk, cream, butter, cheese, and
ice cream
Increasing your exercise not only lowers your LDL. It also raises
levels of HDL (good cholesterol), which carries bad cholesterol away.
Take steps to enhance your chance of success, especially if exercise is
a bit foreign to you. Gradually increase the intensity and length of
your exercise routines. Or find an exercise partner to help you stay
motivated.
Sometimes lifestyle changes are simply not enough to get your
cholesterol into a safe range. In these cases, your doctor may
prescribe a special medicine to lower your cholesterol. Make sure you
take it exactly the way your doctor directs. If you don’t, it may not
work. Just remember: we can double check to make sure you’re on
the right track. And, if cost is an issue, ask us whether a generic
version of your medicine is available.
Statins are one type of medicine commonly prescribed for high
cholesterol. You’ve probably heard a lot about this medicine. Recent
studies have added encouraging news about statins.
For example, statins may help kids who have a genetic type of
cholesterol disorder. They may also help boost survival rates after
people have a certain type of stroke. Statins may even prevent
common and serious complications from diabetes. They apparently
protect against damage to small blood vessels that can lead to
blindness or amputations.
None of this means medicine gives you a free pass to smoke,
overeat, and be a couch potato. Instead, lifestyle changes can work
together with medicine to improve your cholesterol levels even more.
And, as you already know, these changes can really improve your
overall quality of life. Always remember, that we are here for you-- to
help and cheer you on !

levels. When your hormones go out of whack they can
affect your fertility by up to 90%! Acupuncture affects
the hormone system positively thereby normalizing
secretion of some hormones that affect fertility,
lutenizing hormone for example.
In China it has been shown that women whose ovaries
were not producing eggs who then received acupuncture
began to produce eggs. Wow! So in conclusion.... I have
good news for you. ACUPUNCTURE WORKS!
Did you know modern research has shown that
acupuncture increases uterine arterial blood flow?
So, you ask "How does Chinese Medicine work?” Here
is a brief overview to help you understand the nature of
this ancient holistic healing modality.
Women diagnosed with decreased blood flow to the
uterus find conception difficult. Many times just
implementing simple natural changes to improve
innervation of the uterus will result in a significant
increase in blood flow to the uterus which causes a
fertile ground for a baby to grow.
• Acupuncture & Chinese medicine enhance
reproductive potential by harmonizing the endocrine
system. They also directly affect the pineal &
hypothalamus glands thus affecting gonads &
reproductive system.
Acupuncture improves the lining of the uterus.... your
future baby's home! That's a good thing, don't you
think?
Another leading cause of infertility is STRESS. As the
level of daily stress goes up in life so do infertility
issues for couples everywhere. Stress does not
discriminate. It affects everyone. This is not only on the
women's end, for 40% of infertility cases are due to
male issues.
Another culprit to fertility issues is abnormal hormone
• In TCM, reproduction is closely related to the
Kidneys, Liver, Spleen, Chong and Ren channels
• Anything that might cause blood to be deficient
might cause infertility
• anything that leads to blockage or stagnation of the
bloods ability to flow freely and throughout the womb
may also cause infertility.
• It is historically believed that in order to cure
infertility, the first important thing is to adjust the
menstruation.

REAL ESTATE
by Elizabeth Baldassarre
Realtor, Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate
What's in Store For the Real Estate New Year?
Despite the ebbs and flows of our local real estate
market, 2014 was fairly stable as well as seeing an
increase in our property values. There are many reasons
to be optimistic that the trend will continue in 2015.
Inventory of homes, or lack thereof, has impacted our
local market. There are signs, however, that inventory
will be on the rise. There are more listings compared to
this time last year. Based on the Realtors Association of
the Palm Beaches local market update, inventory of
single family homes is up 19.7 percent from last year.
Since more houses have appreciated in value,
homeowners have recouped equity in their properties
and are closer to test the market by putting their homes
up for sale. Prices are not likely to increase much more
since increased inventory of homes means there will be
more competition. Sellers will have incentive to sell
before prices flatten out.
Page 33
Interest rates are another factor that have positively
influenced our local market. It was predicted by many
that the rates would go over 5 percent in 2014 but they
are still hovering at about 4 percent and even dipped
below that for 30 year fixed mortgages. While it is not
expected to have a sudden increase early in the year,
potential buyers will want to take advantage of the low
rates.
Recent programs extended to first time homebuyers,
that according to the National Association of Realtors
only comprises 33 percent of buyers, will also lend
promising results to our local market. Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac are offering 3 percent down payment
programs that will help to make purchasing their first
home a reality, especially if they have good credit and
steady employment but not enough saved for a 10-20
percent down payment. We expect to see the percentage
of first time homebuyers increase by this time next year.
All in all, 2014 was a great year for both sellers and
buyers and we look forward to an exceptional 2015.
Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy and prosperous

This Beacon issue addresses the magic sauce which Whole
Body Cryotherapy (WBC) activates in the brain to release a
collection of wonderful chemicals inside the human body to help
rejuvenate and heal.
Within 30 seconds inside a Cryosauna at minus 220 degrees
Fahrenheit, the human body’s skin sensors send an extraordinarily
powerful signal to the brain that the body is about to succumb.
The brain responses instantly; to preserve the body’s core
temperature of 98.6 F degrees;; neural signals are sent to
vasoconstrict the blood vessels in the limbs to pool as much warm
blood into the core of the body.
Simultaneously, the brain’s pituitary gland releases endorphins
(which gives relief from pain) and the hypothalamus secretes
neurohormones which treat and repair target organs like the brain,
heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, reproductive organs, and the body’s
largest organ, the skin. This internal process also produces a
massive boost of collagen production, which gives cartilage its
strength and helps with joint problems and reducing wrinkles and
cellulite.
For the next 2 to 3 minutes while inside the Cryosauna, the
person’s core blood is super enriched with oxygen, endorphins
and neurohormones. All crucial life processes are dramatically
accelerated. The body’s metabolic rate is spiked to accommodate
this extra internal energy and will burn up to 800 calories over the
next 10 hours. In other words, during WBC, if the performance
of any organs or tissues were low or impaired, these deficiencies
are remedied as much as possible with all the required
components, so the bolstered organs and tissues can begin to
recover. And this is all accomplished naturally using the body’s
own regenerative chemicals and powers. In contrast, Western
medicine mostly treats organs and tissue when signs of a failure
are evident.
When the WBC session is finished and the client steps out of
the Cryosauna into normal room temperature signals to the brain
indicate this new temperature change and all peripheral blood
vessels and tissues expand. Under the temporary higher blood
pressure caused by WBC, enriched blood is now released from
the “internal core cycle” and flows back out to the peripheral
tissues, filling all the remote corners of the body from which it
was withheld during the low temperatures. Thus WBC works
from within the body.
When this enriched blood reaches peripheral tissues, they are
enhanced in the same beneficial way as the internal organs were
during the treatment. In fact, this beneficial process continues in
the body for 6 to 8 hours after the treatment. Cumulative WBC
sessions expand this beneficial process lasting months.
This enriched blood creates favorable conditions for internal
organ regeneration, for expelling toxins from subcutaneous layers,
for the cell renewal process, replacement of damaged cells and
elimination of dead cells from peripheral tissues – rejuvenation of
the body at the cellular level.
WBC is the only known modality which accomplishes this
extraordinary response in the human body, and without any
collateral damage to the body…meaning no adverse side effects
such as can be caused by drugs or surgery.
Iceland Cryo is the first and only WBC office in Palm Beach
County and The Treasure Coast.
Yours for good health,
Edison Kiela

Flexibility is Watchword of

Rapid Growth and Offers Full Service Capabilities
JUPITER -- It’s all part of a decade old direct mortgage
lending company based in Ohio, but the Cross Country
Mortgage branch, 612 Orange Ave. #D12, has been making
great strides here for the past three years under the guidance
of branch manger Vincent J. Fiordilino and his staff.
Not only is the branch manager attracting new accounts
briskly, but Fiordilino is in the running for Man of the Year
through a competition fundraising program in behalf of the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Champions of Hope
campaign. The results will be announced in April during a
grand finale ceremony.
As for Cross Country Mortgage, Fiordilino said, “With the

Lending services available through Cross Country
Mortgage include home financing and refinancing; primary,
second homes and investment homes; multi family homes
and condos; debt consolidation; jumbo loans; foreign national
loans; FHA, VA and USDA home loans; HARP refinancing
and more.
Vincent and his staff at Cross Country Mortgage Inc, of
Jupiter are focused on providing high-quality mortgage
lending services and customer satisfaction “We will do
everything we can to meet your expectations,” Vince
explained, “We offer a wider selection of home purchase and
refinance products than most mortgage companies, so
whether you’re in the market for a starter home or your longterm dream house, we have the products and services to make
either a reality.”
Cross Country Mortgage is more than a mortgage company.
This slogan the company carries applies to all licensed
branches located in 49 states. With such a large direct
mortgage lending base, better rates and better closing costs
are enjoyed by most clients.

Burger FI is just that in Harbourside Place - a step up to the

born out of the owner’s desire for the “Burgerfication of
America.” Would you believe that the whole concept was
derived from the success and acclaim generated from The Office
in Delray Beach, and the all-natural Angus “CEO Burger” there?
The owner, Mr. Rosatti, is actually in the process of taking his
award-winning burger beyond Atlantic Avenue now, claiming
almost 70 locations to date. The Burger FI in Harrbourside Place,
which opened December 5, is one of the newest in the
developing chain. Burgers and fries, hot dogs, frozen custards,
frozen concretes and craft beers are pretty much the menu for
this place. Some say, it’s the best burger ever introduced
anywhere. We haven’t tried it, but one look at their menu the
other day and we decided it is to be placed on our list of places
to go in the future. Meanwhile, try their “Hippie Burger” and tell
me what you think. That’s quite a name for a burger. The menu
says it is two grilled quinoa burgers served on a potato bun with
a side of neon relish. That neon concept probably makes it a
hippie and no doubt makes all who go there curious. The quinoa
is probably a curious thing, too. If you don’t know what it is,
well, it’s a protein-packed grain found in the Andes. It was

Band is Making Big Strides
Here with Real Life Originals
This Group Had their First CD Release Party in Late
November at Guanabanas and was Well Received
JUPITER -- He’s a Pilot, He’s a Surfer, He’s a Rocker and a Hit
Maker. That sounds like the lyrics of a pop song, don’t you think?
Maybe not, but in the case of one Perry Strait, he is all of these things.
And, he may very well be a romantic.
Strait is making big strides in this area with his group, The Perry
Strait Band, having organized about two years ago. But, Strait has been
performing for seven years other places, mostly in West Palm Beach.
Strait is beginning to cement bookings locally for the band and has
already gained a following from solo performances at Tiki Bar 52 and
the full band at Guanabanas. Strait has done solo gigs at Das Biergarten
and Specialty Beer Cellar, both in Abacoa. His last performance in this
area was on December 4 at
the Beer Cellar.
With the release of the
new CD, “Warmer than
Whiskey” November 29 at
Guanabanas, the band
gained a whole new
popularity. “The album
release party was great,”
Strait said,“because all my
friends and family were
there and I think we
gained some new followers
Here, Perry Strait really gets into one of

before.”
The “Warmer than Whiskey” CD cuts are all originals. The album
title song, we feel, makes Strait a romantic aside from all the other
accomplishments he has made, because it is about being loved and
appreciated. The CD itself has been dedicated to the victims of
Hurricane Katrina, which did a horrifying number on New Orleans a
few years ago. Strait, a New Orleans native, said most of his family
was wiped out by the storm, including the old family homestead which
has never been refurbished. “I hope someday I can go back to New
Orleans and be in a position to rebuild that home. It has held a lot of
memories as my grandmother’s great grandmother homesteaded the
property, and until Katrina, it has been lived in and well maintained.”
Thus, another reason why we think Strait is a romantic, although he
won’t admit it.
Strait claims his band is Southern Rock, but there are many
resemblances of bonefide country and a bit of the blues in his music.
When performing, the band’s playlist has a good mix of originals and
commercial cover songs.
Another original song on Strait’s new CD is called “Open Hands.” It,
too, has ties with Hurricane Katrina. Lyrics in a part of the chorus in
the song, ”Power in the Palm
of the Open Hand”, would
reflect the outreach people
had after the storm and
Strait’s feeling towards
family and recovery.
Some of his songs have
also been influenced by
surfing, a sport he has long
enjoyed. In fact, Strait left the
surf to come to our interview
and said he planned to return
to the Juno Beach Pier for
more afterwards.
Some of Strait’s songs are
very imaginary, perhaps
humorous. Song title “Money
in a Briefcase” has

envisions a wealthy man sitting in the back of the plane carrying a
briefcase full of money. This is definitely a southern rock tune.
Listening to the Perry Strait Band is, indeed, an experience in itself.
Much of their music is upbeat and strongly presented by very
experienced musicians. The key factor, we believe, is that the band is
together and always on target. The band personnel includes Bob Taylor,
keyboard; Michael Esnie, bass; Jack Tree, drums; and Strait, lead guitar
and vocals.
The band performs often on Clematis Street in West Palm Beach.
Their next two bookings are January 9 at Osage and on January 17 at

Probably the crucial
factors regarding Strait’s
band and music would be
its outstanding musicians,

2875 Jupiter Park Dr. #400, Jupiter, FL 33458
We were recently very pleased to host an in-store clinic with one of my
favorite Singer-Guitarist, Robben Ford. Ford has been a favorite of mine for
several decades and counting, but I’d not met him before. His excellent Clinic
ran approximately two hours and covered many topics of interest to the 40+
attendees. Following the teaching session and a lively Q&A period, Ford
performed for us with our own rhythm section, which was really exciting.
Typically, when you see and hear such a musical giant perform, the tickets are
expensive and the artist is far from you and you don’t get to hang out and
pose questions, as we did in this case.
Robben was very gracious and giving with his knowledge, time and talents.
He readily signed cd’s, album covers and a few guitars for us. He answered
many questions and he explained it all in clear, understandable terms. His
teaching style is relaxed and gentle, even though he covered a lot of territory.
Many participants told me afterwards that they did in fact “learn” from Ford,
which is always good to know when we plan future clinics..
Our rhythm section band consisted, by design, of guys that never played
together before, and I felt this would be interesting. I was confident that these
particular musicians would enjoy playing with the great Robben Ford, and
also that Robben would enjoy them. To lead the group I selected Royal Hayes,
Jr. on Guitar, our own Graham Zebedee on Bass and Joe Wyman on drums.
Very competent players all, and they did a superb job. I felt the fact that they
had never played with one another added a bit of intrigue, but I had my
confidence in these folks and they measured up fine.

A specially assembled band performed at a recent Robben Ford clinic at Wolfe
Guitars. Pictured are Ford (left), guitar: Royal Hayes, guitar; Graham Zebedee, base and
Joe Wyman, drums. Jay Wolfe, is shown at the far right with a smile on his face.
Robben conducted a five minute rehearsal with the guys before the clinic.
When he concluded his teaching, young Royal kicked the band into gear with
a couple of his own excellent jam style tunes. Ford had planned a 15 minute
break, but when he heard the band, he quickly joined in and things really got
interesting. Ford treated us all to a solid hour an 15 minutes of great music,
with lots of his guitar brilliance and some smooth vocals. He generously
tossed young Royal lot’s of solo breaks which he handled with skill and style.
Smiles were in abundance and we all had a ball. I must say the acoustics in
our Wolfe Guitars shop are superb, which added to the fun.
Robben Ford is an interesting and very talented fellow and I plan to host
other events with him in the months and years to come. He was pleased with
the event and complimentary of our band and the fine musicians that attended
the clinic, among which were some of the finest musicians in South Florida.
Many more wanted to attend, but space was limited. Please check out Robben
Ford, and let us know what you think. I hope you become a fan as well.

the kitchen. Unbelievably good! Check it out.

Expansion the Result of Need,
Luck and Lots of Negotiating
For this Popular Fitness Center a $225,000 Makeover
Found New Equipment, Training Room and Studio
JUNO BEACH -- “The perfect storm,” as described by
Rick Opton, owner of Loggerhead Fitness, occurred and
paved the way for a $225,000 expansion project, which is
now completed at the Plaza La Mer facility, 901 Donald
Ross Road.
Opton explained: “We were in need of a larger space for

cycle, zumba and step is taught here and a full class
schedule can be found on our website.”
Additionally, the center now has a separate personal
training room with all new equipment and several new
fitness machines in the main workout room. Further, Opton
said, in the near future he may be able to take over the
other half of the former diner space for even more fitness
options.
The improvements in the main workout area include a
new rubber flecked flooring, which is much cleaner and
more flexible than the old black mats. Also, $100,000
worth of new cardio and gym equipment was installed
including eight treadmills, two lateral X trainers, two
recumbent ellipticals and another step mill. The cardio
machines are all equipped with integrated TVs that are Wi
Fi and blue tooth enabled.
The new personal training studio features a multi-station
hoist cage, battle ropes, TRX. kettle bells, dumb bells, web
slide with resistance bands and a Cybex functional training
machine. The space is large and will accommodate small
group personal training.
Loggerhead Fitness is one of the better operated
programs in this area, and certainly one of the largest in
terms of membership, which now totals over 1,600.

operation. “The club has grown,” he advised, “and I felt it
was best to no longer manage from the sidelines.”
Opton gave accolades to his staff, which now consists of
25 personal trainers that make Loggerhead Fitness their
home, and a dozen group class instructors. He noted that
the club caters to fitness afficionados over 40. “The core
demographic we serve is the baby boomer population that

A community minded business man, Opton belongs to

member of the Beach Committee. Recently, he was called
upon to lead a technology seminar for the Small Business
Advisory Council of the Chamber of Commerce and
received high grades for this.
Like a healthy muscle, Loggerhead Fitness has grown
and expanded. “It’s not every day that we can devote the
time and money to this type of growth,” Opton concluded,
“so we are trying to think ahead of what our future needs
will be. We do have our eyes on further expansion and
plan to be in the community for a long time. We are one of
only a few independent boutique clubs to survive, and for
that we are grateful.”
