Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to welcome you to the 24th PASE conference hosted by the Department of
English Studies, University of Wrocław, on 17-19 April 2015. The main conference venue and
information centre will be located in the building of the Department of English Studies, ul.
Kuźnicza 22.
Below you will find important information about the conference details.

Abstracts of proposals for the Young Researchers’ Forum should be sent to
pase.abstrakty.2015@gmail.com by 15 January 2015. Applicants who take part in the poster
session add an extra key word TRANSLATIO POSTER. Applicants who take part in the forum add
the key word TRANSLATIO FMB.
The participants will receive notification of acceptance by 31 January 2015.
REGISTRATION:
Registration starts on 15 January 2015 and the registration form can be downloaded from the
Conference homepage.
ACCOMMODATION:
Accommodation tips will be available on our conference page around 15 December 2015.

The fee covers the costs of organization, coffee and reception, conference materials as well as the
costs of conference publication. Selected papers will be published in the Łódź Studies in English
Series (Peter Lang) and the Silesian Studies in Anglophone Cultures and Literatures Series (Peter
Lang).

ROUND TABLE:
The Place of the Humanities; the Role of Teaching English Literature moderated by prof. Anna
Budziak. The participants of the round table will address a variety of questions concerning the
changes which we are currently facing in the universities.

PANELS:
The Section of Translation Studies of the Department of English Studies (University of Wrocław)
proposes a series of panels under the collective title: Exploring the Intersection of English Studies
and the Business Sector, coordinated by dr Michał Szawerna, exploring the topic of professional
improvement of English studies graduates in view of the rapidly changing conditions of the presentday work market.
Panel 1: An Expert Network and its New Calling: English Studies in Poland 25 Years after the
Transformation.
The panel, moderated by dr Maciej Litwin, will host representatives of the University of Wrocław
as well as the Municipal Government of Wrocław, who will address the vital concerns of English
studies in Poland twenty-five years after the political transformation.
Panel 2: Professional Accountability of Sworn Translators.
This panel, moderated by prof. Marek Kuźniak, will host Bolesław Cieślik, Head of the
Department of Sworn Translators in the Ministry of Justice, who will address the problem of the
implementation of the provisions regulating the supervision of the conduct of sworn translators as
professionals.
Panel 3: On Professional Cooperation between Interpreters and Police Negotiators
The panel, moderated by dr Michał Szawerna, will host dr Piotr Czajka, an interpreter involved in
police negotiations, and a negotiator from the Wrocław Police Department, who will reflect on their
collaboration in an attempt to specify the prerequisites for a mutually satisfactory professional
cooperation between police negotiators and interpreters.

YOUNG RESEARCHERS’ FORUM OF TRANSLATION STUDIES AT PASE
2015 CONFERENCE:
“Translatio” Doctoral Students’ Association encourages all doctoral students and young researchers
interested in Translation Studies to participate in the Young Researchers’ Forum, a discussion
panel that will take place during PASE 2015 conference.
The Forum will provide a venue for presenting thesis or research concepts and discussing them with
other specialists in the field. It will aim to promote a constructive discourse that will help young
researchers to pursue alternative research solutions and to successfully develop their own ideas.

YOUNG SCHOLAR’S AWARD (YSA) IN 2015 FOR PASE MEMBERS:
We would like to remind all PASE members under 35 that in 2015 the PASE Board has decided to
grant two prizes for the best paper presented at the conference -- one in linguistics and one in
