announce the death of Mr Lawrence Henry the former head
teacher of St Polycarp's school. Mr Henry's funeral will be in
Milton Keynes on Thursday 15th January.
Mrs Gunn has asked that we have a ‘Remembering Mr
Henry Mass’ so that staff, governors, parents and students
can come to pray for him and his family.
We will hold this Mass on Wednesday 14th January at
3.45pm to allow All Hallows students to travel to St Joan's.
The St Polycarp's school community and St Joan's parish

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION – VOLUNTEER FOR
CAFOD!
Would you like to use your spare time to help people in
poverty throughout the world? The Catholic Agency For
Overseas Development are in need of volunteers in the area
to help in particular in schools (experience of teaching is not
required) but also in Parishes and in various other ways.
2015 is a very key year for CAFOD, could you help them? If
so, get in touch with the local CAFOD office on 01483 898
866 or arundelandbrighton@cafod.org.uk See
http//cafodarundelbrighton.wordpress.com/
<http://cafodarundelbrighton.wordpress.com/> for more
information on volunteering and our ‘Understanding CAFOD’
sessions later in January.
We would like to say a big ‘Thank you’ for all of your
generous support last year.
WHITE FLOWER APPEAL, WEEKEND OF JAN. 10/11: please give
generously to the Society for Protection of Unborn Children
(SPUC) which has supported the Glasgow midwives in their legal
struggle to avoid being involved in abortions. The Supreme Court
ruling, which had been expected during 2015, was in fact issued
early, before Christmas – they rejected the midwives case and
severely restricted legal protection for conscientious
objection. Now there will be costs to be paid and further funds
needed for the task of seeking to redress this ruling.

SATURDAY 24TH JANUARY This year’s theme “The Well is Deep”
comes from the churches of Brazil and invites us to acknowledge
that diversity is part of God’s design and we should approach one
another in trust and see the face of God in all men and women.

VOCATIONS MATTER
11 JANUARY: BAPTISM OF THE LORD As the Christmas
season comes to an end, we hear the voice from heaven
proclaim, "You are my Son, the Beloved". Lest we should
be in any doubt, the Church, in celebrating this feast today,
helps us to see and to know that it's only Christ that matters;
that he, and he alone, is favoured by the Father in bringing
life, peace, forgiveness and joy to the world. Let's choose to
be disciples of this light shining in the darkness, for this is
where we discover who we're called to be.
THANK YOU To the nineteen parishioners, and two little
ones, who gallantly turned up on Sat. 13 December 2014 to
sing Christmas carols, in the Lion and Lamb Courtyard, a
very sincere thank you. We collected £83.69 in the one hour
we were singing. This money has now been despatched to
Mary's Meals for the feeding and education of vagrant
children, many of them AIDS orphans, in different parts of the
world. From Dorothy McIntosh
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2015
Thank you for all those who have registered their child for
the First Holy Communion Programme.
Further details will be issued shortly.
A Big Thank you to everyone who organized and
was involved in this year’s Christmas celebrations,
to the musicians, singers, flower ladies, church
cleaners, altar servers, sacristants and everyone
behind the scenes a big big thank you.
