Tevye the Dairyman: Millions know and love Tevye, but relatively few know about Tevye's creator, the great Yiddish and Hebrew writer Sholem Aleichem or the classic novel, Tevye the Dairyman, that inspired the Broadway musical. Wendy Zierler of Hebrew Union College/Jewish Institute of Religion will provide an introduction to Sholem Aleichem, focusing on the novel and its signature style, how it encapsulated so many of the major cultural and social changes that overtook Jewish life in Russia and American at the turn of the century.
