Here is general Mass information during bad weather:
Weekends: In general, barring severe weather, there
will always be weekend Masses. Use common sense.
We have an obligation to worship on the Lord’s Day. We
do not have an obligation to put ourselves or others in
danger because of road conditions. We have lots of folks
living on side roads that may not be taken care of as well
as Hwy. 94. Use your good judgment.
Weekdays: The general rule is, if St. Vincent School is
cancelled, there is no Mass that day.
Has your address or phone number changed?
If you have a different contact phone number or
a new address than that listed in our directory,
please contact the Parish Office or fill this out
and drop in the collection basket.
Please keep us up-todate so that we can get in
touch with you if needed.

Baptism of the Lord
THE WATERS OF BAPTISM
When new sod is put in, it needs constant saturation
with water. Landscapers say that this "knits" the sod
to the soil. The same when a branch is grafted onto a
tree: the poultice that joins them at the splice must be
kept wet at all times. Water is the stuff that binds the
very cells of our bodies together. No wonder religions throughout all times and cultures have used it
so prominently. When Jesus stepped into the Jordan
for baptism, he "knit" himself to what had come before him. By going to the Jordan, he made himself
one with the people of Israel who had crossed it into
their Promised Land. With John the Baptist, Christ
wove himself into the prophetic tradition that heralded the coming reign of God. He had become fully
human in the waters of Mary's womb, and by partaking in the rite of the baptism of repentance, Jesus identified himself with our sinful, frail humanity. It is
through the waters of baptism that Christ continues to graft new members onto his Body, the Church; through
these waters we are cleansed from sin and filled with the promise of grace, given our destiny for eternal life.
For us, as for Jesus, it is also the waters of baptism that inaugurate our mission to proclaim the Good News.

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – An Introduction
Dynamic Catholic, Alive!, an Archdiocesan initiative inspired by Matthew Kelly’s The
Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic to cultivate prayer, study, generosity, and evangelization, has begun! In 2015, there will be a special emphasis on prayer, a broad term
that pertains to the entirety of the spiritual life (prayer, Mass, sacraments, holiness,
etc). Dynamic Catholics have a daily commitment to prayer and vibrant spiritual lives.
Are you spiritually healthy?
Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – Baptism
Today we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, who was baptized by John the Baptist to
sanctify the waters. “Baptism isn’t just a ceremony or ritual, it is a sacrament; a sacrament brings us into a living relationship with God. The Lord himself dwells within us
through baptism and desires us to share in His holiness and mission” (Archbishop
Carlson). Are you living out your baptismal calling through a life of holiness and mission? www.archstl.org/dynamic
This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, the official end of the
Christmas Season. We will be taking down the Christmas decorations after Sunday Mass at
both parishes. We will begin at 9am at IC and after the 10am Mass at SV. Extra hands
would be helpful to make the work quick and easy. Thanks for your help!
Because our bulletins have had to get in so early during the Christmas season, please remember in your prayers the repose of the soul of Corey Gentemann, grandson of our former
principal Clem Gentemann who was buried at our parish last week. May his soul and the
souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen!

The Baptism of the Lord
“After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. (Mark 1:7)
We are put on this earth to love God, love our neighbor and make disciples.
How many time does our own pride and ego get in the way on fulfilling God’s
plan for us? Humbling ourselves before God and putting Him first in all things
should be our top priority.

The Students at school are introduced to a
virtue each month and we work on various was
to act with that virtue. The month of January’s
virtue is gratitude. What a great virtue
especially right after Christmas! Gratitude is
seeing everything as a gift and being thankful. I am
so thankful for the staff at SVS as well as all the students and families. I think that being thankful and
happy go hand in hand. So as I told the children be
grateful for something each day. What are you grateful for this week?
