TRENT NOWKA
Nowka & Edwards
Speakers
Trent Nowka has worked in government relations since
1978. While in college, he worked for Senator Dick Marvel
who was Speaker of the Legislature. Upon graduation from the
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Trent became a legislative aide
for Congresswoman Virginia Smith, focusing on agricultural and
educational issues. After earning his degree from UNL in 1984, Trent became the
Director of Government Affairs for the Nebraska Farm Bureau
Federation. He was responsible for coordinating federal and
state legislative policies as well as establishing and directing the
organization’s political action committee.
In 1993, Trent accepted an offer to become Legislative Counsel
for Governor Ben Nelson. In this position, he was the Governor’s
lobbyist to the Nebraska Unicameral and directed the Governor’s
legislative and policy agendas. He was also the Governor’s liaison
to state agency directors and state constitutional officers.
Trent went into partnership with Bruce Cutshall in 1998. In
this position, he has helped represent a wide diversity of clients
before the Nebraska Legislature. He has also been retained as a
consultant to assist with legislative elections and statewide ballot
issues. Why Your Involvement in State Advocacy
Impacts Your Business
Trent Nowka from Nowka & Edwards (NUCA of Nebraska’s
lobbying firm) will share the history of how the Unicameral
(Nebraska legislature) was formed. He will discuss how a bill
becomes a law, will talk about why it is important to be aware and
participate in advocacy and building relationships with lawmakers,
and will explain how that impacts your business and the utility
construction industry. You’ll leave this session with a better
understanding about the legislative process and have information
to help prepare for your participation in NUCA of Nebraska’s
Legislative Day on February 26, 2015.
DAN KUESTER
Staying Competitive in a Changing World
If you have a desire to be a leader in your industry, it is essential
that you know how to drive change and build teams to stay ahead
of the competition. This session will provide you with the tools to
prepare you and your team for the emotional roller coaster that
comes with the many changes you will experience. Why you do
what you do will seldom change, but how you do your business will
always change. Stay ahead of the curve by properly preparing your
most important asset – your employees. Join Dan Kuester in this
energized session which will outline how to stay ahead of the pack
by effectively leading people and managing change.
BOB GORDHAMER
Measurement Technologies, Inc.
Robert J. Gordhamer is the owner of
Gordhamer & Associates and Measurement
Technologies, Inc. He has more than 40 years
of experience in the Water and Sewer Industry,
during which time he has gained practical knowledge regarding:
estimating; outside sales at the distribution level; managing a
Waterworks distributorship; and working for various manufacturers
as a Regional Salesman, Product Manager, National Distributor
Sales Manager, and National Sales Manager. Bob has used this
experience as owner of a Manufacturer Representative agency
in the Pacific Northwest and a small manufacturing company.
He is a life member of the American Water Works Association
(AWWA), as well as a member of the AWWA’s Disinfection of
Facilities Committee. Bob also serves as the Sub-Committee Chair
for AWWA’s C-655 Field Dechlorination standard, and C-651
Disinfecting Water Mains standard.
Changes in the Revised AWWA C-651
Disinfecting Water Mains Standard and How
it Relates to the C-655 Field Dechlorination
Standard
The presentation will cover three areas of field chlorination and
dechlorination:
1.
Changes in AWWA’s revised C-651 Disinfecting Water
Mains standard being released in the next year. These
changes may affect the ways a contractor will perform his
field chlorination, flushing and pressure testing methods of
new water mains.
2.
How to judge what method and equipment is best for your
projects and crews. Learn how to use Calcium Hypochlorite as
a solution and inject into the system during super chlorinating
procedures.
3.
Review the requirements in AWWA’s C-655 standard for field
dechlorination. Conduct a cost comparison for dechlorination
chemicals in relationship to the environmental cost of using
an improper chemical.

Ameritrade. Each year the award goes to the most outstanding college kickoff or punt returner in
the nation.
“Never Fair Catch! What It Means To Be Fearless In Your Life”
Using actual film footage and relevant personal stories on and off the football field, Johnny Rodgers shows
his audiences that it is not how fast you get there, but that timing is everything, and it’s that you get there
that counts. He says, “Don’t out-think yourself….sometimes it’s not about thinking it’s about following
your inner self and just reacting to situations as they come. You have to be in sync with your teammates,
because everybody has got to get a block”, says Rodgers.
Rodgers reveals 11 competitors such as fear, ego, jealousy, laziness, etc. that must be blocked on every play.
Audiences will quickly recognize the real challenges standing between them and their goal line.
Speakers
Keynote Speaker Johnny Rodgers
Born with asthma in 1951 and diagnosed with tuberculosis at the age of five,
Johnny Rodgers had a rough start in life to say the least! Johnny knows first-hand
what it’s like to be vulnerable and feel helpless. But Johnny also knows what it
feels like to work with others, both on and off the field, to achieve your wildest
dreams!
Johnny believes that “Good performance is about participating at a high level in whatever you desire to
achieve. High performance is about taking your game to the highest level you think possible, and then
deciding to take it to even another level! We’re talking about taking it “Over The Top”!
This presentation is informative and entertaining as Rodgers easily builds rapport with audiences. Knowledge
of the game of football is not a prerequisite. Non-sports fans will gain equal lessons in the areas of risk
reduction, ways to increase their odds, and new rules of engagement for building better alliances with others.
In this presentation, you will learn:
• 7 steps you can apply to your career today that will change your results and your life.
• Why you should memorize the definition of F.O.C.U.S.
• The single most important element in improving your results.
• 11 defenders that stand in your way.
• How to create “Your Playbook for Success.”
Have your picture taken with Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers
during cocktail reception and you can take it home autographed by Johnny.
