Over 5,500 uses. Ruth Klahsen, owner of Monforte Dairy Company Ltd. (Monforte), a microproducer of artisanal cheese in Stratford, Ontario, must decide whether or not to expand operations, and if so in which manner. After being unfairly forced out of a previous lease agreement and unable to find an affordable alternative, Klahsen worked tirelessly to secure enough financing for Monforte to build its own dairy plant. Having completed construction and restarted operations, Klahsen is not satisfied with the limited scope of the company and desired further growth. She is being drawn in two directions, however, as she depends on the company for her livelihood, but also wants to use it as a beacon of success for both the slow food and sustainable food movements. She is unsure of the feasibility of her ideas, but feels that now that Monforte was back on solid ground, it was a good time to begin evaluating them. Klahsen will need to evaluate each option using the strategic management tension model before finalizing any decisions. “The Toronto Ultimate Club” (under the supervision of Elizabeth Grasby), Ivey Publishing, The University of Western Ontario, October 2009. Over 3,800 uses. In early December, 2008, Jason Robinson sat back and wondered how he could improve on the Toronto Ultimate Club’s (TUC) growth in membership over the past year. The not-for-profit organization was the first one to offer organized Ultimate Frisbee leagues in the Toronto area. Over the past five years, forprofit competitors had been building strength and claiming an ever-growing portion of market share. In order to keep TUC competitive, the club’s Board of Directors had requested that Robinson complete a thorough review of current offerings in the marketplace and develop and institute a comprehensive marketing plan that would ensure the club’s viability for years to come. Robinson would need to evaluate the current offering, placement, and prices offered, as well as evaluate and decide on a strong promotional strategy with mutual goals of providing a sustainable increase in club membership and developing the sport of Ultimate Frisbee in a responsible manner.
