Celebrating Light (IYL-2015, Abn Al-Haytham) 2-3 February, 2015 Jointly Organized by National Centre for Physics, Islamabad and Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad International Year of Light 2015 Introduction A two day symposium on “CELEBRATING LIGHT” is being organized at the National Centre for Physics from 2-3 February, 2015 to commemorate “The International Year of Light (IYL-2015)” declared by UNESCO as well as “The Anniversary of the Ibe AlHaytham’s Optics”. This is in acknowledgement of the significant contributions of Abn Al-Haytham in the field of Optics who published seven volumes of his book ‘Kitab-al Manazair’ in 1015, the contributions of Muslim scholars to Optics followed by three Nobel prizes for Blue light in Physics and two Nobel prizes for high resolution optical microscopes in Chemistry. The symposium shall highlight the Golden age of Islamic Civilization and Light based Technologies. Furthermore, the event provides a platform to discuss advancements in optics, related emerging technologies and future extensions. Directors M. Aslam Baig Hafeez R.
