Introduction
Welcome to our Winter/Spring 2015 brochure listing the largest
number of part time adult learning courses in the city.
In the following pages you will find courses to suit a variety of
interests and hobbies alongside courses to help you improve your
skills for work. We have a range of knowledgeable and enthusiastic
tutors who really know how to make their subject come alive. We
are adult learning experts who really understand what adult students
need and how they learn best. We look forward to welcoming you to
one of our programmes.
Signing up for an adult
learning course
Online:
Signing up online is the quickest and simplest
way to sign up for a course. We are hoping that
within the next year, 80% of our bookings will be
made online. It is the simplest and most secure
way of booking with access 24 hours a day
for 365 days per year. Use our new booking
system to sign up and pay online at:
www.yortime.org.uk
There are courses being added to the website
every day so please visit regularly for an update
of what is available. If you registered on the site
last year then we will still have your details and
you simply need to sign in, select your course
and then follow the instructions on the screen.
How much the course costs
For most courses you will see three prices
displayed. The first price listed is the full cost
of the course, the second one is for people
claiming the state pension and the third price
is for those people on some means tested
benefits. If there is only one price then this is the
price that everyone pays.
Some courses are free if you are claiming Job
Seekers Allowance or Employment Support
Allowance.
Instalments
For courses £100 and over you can pay in four
instalments. If you wish to pay by instalments
then you have to ring to sign up. Instalments are
a way of spreading the cost of the courses over
3 months.
Telephone and in person booking:
Other help towards your learning

How to find a course
If you do not have access to the internet or are
not able to make a booking online, then you can
book by telephone or in person. However this
service is limited to the following times and days
and you will not be able to book at any other
time either in person or by phone.
Telephone and in person bookings at West
Offices can be made at the following times:
Telephone and in person booking will
commence on 2nd January 2015. There will
be no telephone or in person booking before
this date.
No matter which course you attend, our tutors
are happy to discuss ways to help you learn,
including how to develop relevant English,
maths and computer skills for your chosen topic.
For courses designed to help you into work,
additional help is available if you are claiming
certain income related benefits. In some
cases, our learner support fund may be used
to help with travel, equipment and childcare
costs. Please ring (01904) 554277 for further
information.
Courses are organised under area of interest
headings. These are listed on the opposite
page. If you are looking for a specific course
you might want to browse through the listings.

Welcome to York’s Community Learning Partnership.
Over the next few pages we have included adverts from a range of our partners who offer adult
learning courses. This in under the umbrella of York’s Community Learning Partnership. These
programmes are part of the wider city offer, part of our commitment to bring together other
organisations to offer a range of learning from the very informal up to those of a higher and
advanced level. We will be building on this partnership over the next few years and hope that as
a result we will be able to offer a better and more responsive programme.
In addition to this we are always on the look out for new ideas and courses.
Organising new programme and responding to new trends and ideas is what keeps our
programmes fresh and interesting.
And we want to here from you about the kinds of things you would like to see.
So if you or you and your friends have an idea for a course, or you think there is something
missing then please email: york.learning@york.gov.uk
Whilst we cannot guarantee that we will be able to respond to every request, we are keen
to make all of our programmes more responsive to the local community.
You will also find additional information about other programmes that York Learning offer,
for example English and maths, employability, apprenticeships and workplace learning,
over the next few pages.
