HFA Connectivity
How do I connect my HFA?
Every Humphrey® Field Analyzer II-i series (HFA™ II-i ) ships with two standard options
for connecting to your office network: HFA-NET Pro™ and DICOM Gateway. HFA-NET Pro
is a legacy interface that provides basic networking functionality.
DICOM Gateway uses DICOM, the medical standard data protocol that provides
superior two-way data communication with your HFAs. DICOM compatible image
and data management systems such as the FORUM® Eye Care Data Management
System from ZEISS can transmit patient exam requests (“Modality Worklist”) and
receive raw data and EPDF patient reports from the HFA II-i.
FORUM can also provide a seamless workflow between an EMR and an HFA II-i by
automating the exchange of patient demographics and PDF files.
An HFA connected to DICOM Gateway is FORUM ready.
The ZEISS FORUM Eye Care Data Management System uses
the DICOM standard, and makes HFA information – and
other testing information – instantly available in the exam
lane. By integrating your HFA II-i system with FORUM, you
can immediately connect to the patient information you
need, when you need it.
HFA II-i and FORUM: Your direct connection to comprehensive
diagnostic care.
FORUM Eye Care Data Management System delivers centralized data storage,
management and retrieval, to make your glaucoma patient data instantly available –
right at your fingertips.
• View electronic reports side-by-side with other HFA, OCT, GDx™, and fundus photos.
• Correlate structure and function at a glance with the HFA-Cirrus Combined Report.
• Have a truly seamless workflow by connecting FORUM to the EMR.
Both HFA-NET Pro and DICOM Gateway
are included in the purchase price of every
HFA. FORUM, which is scalable to the
needs of practices of every size and scope,
is available separately.

you to…
…import patient data from one centrally managed
location – in FORUM – for all instruments connected
to FORUM.
…manually enter new patient information on
the instrument.
…do centralized patient scheduling with the Modality
Worklist feature for all instruments and automatically
retrieve prior HFA exam data with complete patient
demographics.

FORUM after each exam; all HFA exams are stored in one
central location, where they can be readily retrieved by
any HFA connected to FORUM.
…store all HFA exam data on every HFA in
the clinic. Each HFA writes to a common file
folder on the local network and retrieves
exam data from other HFAs.

…retrieve all of a patient’s HFA exams for GPA from one
central location in FORUM.
…perform GPA analysis from any HFA,
regardless of which HFA in the clinic the
patient took their prior tests, so long as
patient demographic information is the same
for each test.
…back up all of your HFA instrument data to one
central location with FORUM.
…separately back up the database of each
HFA connected to your network.
…immediately access your HFA exams in your exam
lane(s) via the FORUM Viewer which allows you to view
not only your HFA reports but also your fundus photos,
Cirrus reports, and the new HFA-Cirrus Combined Report,
the world’s first OCT-Visual Field Integration.
…manually retrieve your HFA pdf reports
from a shared folder on your network. Folder
contains a nested subfolder for each HFA and
then nested patient subfolders.
…integrate to all instruments connected to FORUM
through a single EMR-FORUM interface. EMRs connected
to FORUM are:

can then pull from. EMRs that have created
an HFA-specific interface are*:
