What is a Senior Citizen? 4
Who is a Senior Citizen?
A Senior is one who was here before the Pill and the population explosion.
We were here before television, penicillin, polio shots, antibiotics and Frisbees.
Before frozen foods, radar, fluorescent lights, credit cards, and ball point pens.
We were here before pantyhose and drip dry clothes. Before icemakers and
dishwashers, clothes dryers. Before men wore long hair and earrings and
women wore tuxedos. We were here before yogurt, Ann Landers, plastic, the
40 hour work week and minimum wage. We were ahead of Batman, Rudolph
the Red Nosed Reindeer and Snoopy, before DDT, Vitamin pills, Jeeps,
disposable diapers and pizza. Cheerios, instant anything and Mc Donald’s were
unheard of. We thought fast foods were what you ate during Lent. We were
before disco dancing (and that’s not all bad). In our day cigarette smoking was
fashionable, grass was for mowing, coke was a refreshing drink and pot was
something you cooked in. We are today’s Senior Citizens, a hardy bunch when
you think of how our world has changed and adjustments we’ve had to make.

PEAK PERFORMER
LINDA O’BRIEN
Linda O’Brien was born in New York City. She met and married her husband George
twenty-nine years ago. They have two children, Travis and Cortney. Linda is very proud
of her children and with good reason. Travis just became a doctor and Cortney is a
journalist. Linda began working at Brompton Heights six years ago. She works in the
Recreation Department. It’s obvious that Linda truly loves what she does and
demonstrates it each day that she is here. The residents know that they can count on her
for anything. She brings a smile and a part of herself to all the activities she runs. When
we have the “Red Hat Meeting” Linda creates a special evening each month and insists on
donating a basket to be raffled off to the ladies. On Mondays the residents come looking
for her as soon as she enters the building, to schedule their manicures. On Friday residents’
sign up for trips just to spend time with Linda and enjoy her company. In her spare time
she enjoys reading and baking. Linda truly exemplifies all the HIWART values. She
brings so much love and energy to Brompton Heights. Whenever we have a family partyyou will always see Linda volunteering her time.
It is with great pleasure that we’re announcing- Linda O’Brien is our Peak Performer of the
Month!
