Dear Directors and Students,
It gives me the great honor to announce CMEA’s 16th year of the San Diego All-County Middle
School Honor Band. I would like to welcome our guest conductor Professor Shannon Kitelinger
Director of Bands at San Diego State University. Under his direction you can be assured that your
students will become better musicians, while enjoying the process, and accomplishing great music in
a short amount of time. This experience goes beyond just music education, with students coming
together from all over the county and working toward a common goal. Students will take pride in a
job well done, make new friends, and develop cooperative learning. This is something that they will
carry with them for the rest of their lives.
In order to keep the tryout equal for all students everyone is required to tryout on the same piece and
scales for their instrument. The list of song titles can be found in this application as well as online at
http://www.cajonvalley.net/webpages/scaldwell/cmea_honor_band.cfm
We will continue to offer two options in the audition process a recorded CD or a live audition. Each
has pros and cons. In the “live” audition Students will be given 7-10 minutes to perform the required
piece. Over the last 16 years the judges have turned the live audition process into a chance to
improve the student’s musicianship with helpful suggestions and tips...much like a mini private
lesson. Applications, (optional CD) with a non-refundable check or money order of $12 to CMEASBS are due in advance with application received by Monday March 2 2015. The “Live” students
will be contacted with exact time and further instructions no later than March 14, 2015. Good Luck!
nd
We will be rehearsing this year at SDSU and performing at Point Loma Nazarene University in
Brown Chapel.
