Main Responsibilities To undertake tasking locally through the Investigation Unit and nationally from the National Security Office (NaCTSO). As a member of the South West regional team, to act as the focal point for protective security advice, both internally and externally, to enhance and improve the safety and security of all communities. Delivering protective security advice to crowded places, hazardous sites and sectors and other vulnerable locations identified either locally or by central government. Delivering presentations of findings to customers, covering security standards, business resilience and continuity. To support the Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI) in both the protection of and response to critical sites. To promote awareness of the current threats and to resolve any security concerns through a ‘problem solving approach’. To fulfil the statutory obligations provided in the related Acts, in respect of the security of designated pathogens and toxins. To fulfil the statutory obligations provided in the High Activity Sealed Radiological Sources (HASS) Regulations 2003 in relation to radiological sources. To ensure that security advice is mainstreamed to a variety of trade associations and professional bodies, including: utilities; business partnerships; local authorities; other emergency services; architects and planners. The following would be advantageous:1. Good knowledge of current affairs and global counter terrorism matters. 2. Experience of working within a police or other law enforcement background. 3. A higher level academic qualification in a related discipline. Additional Considerations: You may be required to support the regional network by providing services and advice throughout the region. As a result some travel around the South West may be necessary - a full current driving licence (or the ability to travel around the region by other means) is therefore essential. The post holder will be required to work towards becoming a fully accredited Advisor which must be achieved within two years of appointment to the post. On successful completion of ongoing training and practical work throughout the period, the post holder will receive a Certificate of Occupational Competence. In order to maintain this accreditation status the Advisor will be required to attend regular CPD events and to provide evidence of professional competence to remain in the role. The post entails regular visits to sites and sectors holding hazardous materials, requiring the maintenance and use of personal protective equipment, monitoring of radiological exposure and general compliance with health and safety considerations. The role requires demonstrating a high level of integrity and responsibility, with a keen awareness of business and commercial confidentiality, as advice given by CTSAs can have far reaching commercial and organisational implications.
