 About The 45NRTH Fat Bike Triple Crown will scratch your itch for racing during the winter. Consisting of 3 races in total– one in January, one in February, & one in March, each individual race and an overall winner for each category. Canadians are accustomed to surviving the winter and many take to any sport that gets them outside. For the cyclist who enjoys ripping their local trail in the summertime, the Fat Bike now enhances the ability to gain the same pleasure of trail riding in the winter. Creating a sense of enjoyment, Fat Biking improves winter riding and allows people to embrace getting outside to combat the winter blaws. Dates: Sunday, January 18th, 2015 Saturday, February 7th, 2015 Sunday, March 15th, 2015 Categories/Distances There will be 4 distances offered on each day: Full Crown – 56.3kms Three Quarter Crown – 42.6kms (NEW) Half Crown – 28.9kms Mini Crown – 15.2kms Triple Crown Rankings Points will be awarded to each respective placing, with the overall 45NRTH Fatbike Triple Crown winners with the LOWEST cumulative points. For Example: 1st – 1 point 2nd – 2 points 3rd – 3 points 4th – 4 points Alfred H. Savage Centre The Alfred H. Savage Centre in Whitemud Park makes it easier for Edmontonians to pursue nature-­‐related activities in the river valley. The building is named after Alfred Savage, Commissioner of Public Affairs for the City of Edmonton between 1974 and 1981. He was a driving force behind City facilities such as the Muttart Conservatory and the John Janzen Nature Centre. The centre is built to LEED Silver standards (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Achieving this standard reflects the City of Edmonton’s The Way We Green strategy. The building uses: Geothermal heating Water use reduction methods Reflective roofing Exterior light fixtures that point downward for less light pollution And during construction 84% of waste was diverted away from the landfill mainly by recycling material. The races are open to everyone! All participating riders must be members of an affiliated club, or holders of a UCI license. If you are not a member of an ABA affiliated club, you may use a “One Day Tryout” for your first race. Any other events you wish to participate in for the rest of 2015 will require a club membership. Fat bike racing is an emerging discipline of cycling, and we (redbike & Kokanee Redbike) plan to help both Cycling Canada and the ABA create Fat Bike racing specific guidelines, rather than the adoption of guidelines from the UCI and other disciplines (No studded tires originate from Cyclocross – where it makes sense from a rider safety perspective) so that this type of racing can be sanctioned by the ABA in the future. Course Map (UPDATED) The revised route is approximately 13.7 kms (plus the 1.5km Prologue Lap) of snow covered singletrack and double track shouldering the North Saskatchewan River facilitating Full, Three Quarter, Half, & Mini Crown race distances. Check the Timing Tent to see if you’ve won! 45NRTH will provide the Grand Prize for one lucky series participant – a full kit of 45NRTH gear including Cobrafists, Merino Tee, Lung Cookie, Greazy Cap, & a set of Dillingers. The draw to be made at completion of final race of the Triple Crown. Surly bikes will provide a Krampus frame. Power in Motion will provide a set of heated glove liners to a lucky winner, and Iconclast coffee will be giving each winner a bag of coffee. Inclusiveness Although the spirit of this event is of the fat bike variety, we welcome non-­‐fatbikers with open arms! In addition, we have the opportunity to get more bums on fat bikes as we are working on arranging for a fleet of demo fat bikes to be onsite to give people the perfect opportunity to try one out. Directions From Calgary: Follow Queen Elizabeth Highway 2 to Whitemud Freeway. Head west on the Whitemud to Fox Dr NW. Take the Fox Drive exit Follow Fox Dr NW Turn left onto Keillor Rd NW Turn left and follow underneath Fox Dr. to arrive at the Alfred H. Savage Centre.
