Spring is a busy time of year here at Wyoming Intermediate. It is the time of year we begin to look at transition plans for next year, plan end of the year trips, programs and activities, and work very hard to prepare for end of the year State Testing. Please take a few minutes to review the calendar portion of the newsletter to be sure you don't miss out on any of the upcoming events. In late February we will have our last round of Parent Teacher Conferences. We hope to get 100% attendance at conferences and have good discussions about how best to support your sons and daughters. Please plan on coming and sharing your thoughts. As always, your input is not only valued but essential as we continue to educate your children and prepare them for success at the next grade level. Please do not hesitate to call with your questions, concerns or comments. How lucky am I to have been given the opportunity to work for Wyoming Public Schools for 26 years. I would like to use this opportunity to thank all of the students and parents who have made my career so enjoyable. Life is good, hug a kid today!!! I would also like to thank the staff: Custodians, Social Workers, Teachers, Lunch Ladies, Para-Educators, Speech Therapist, Lunch Supervisors, School Physiologist, 5th Grade Dean, Principal, Secretaries, who all work together to make Wyoming Intermediate a great place for students to grow mentally, physically, socially and academically. Our staff is committed to our Mission, “…to maximize the potential of every student and prepare them to compete, contribute, and succeed in society.” This cannot be accomplished without a partnership with our parents and community. So a shout out to EVERYONE who has contributed to the success of our school, our kids! Life is good, hug a school worker today!!! - Ms Bentley “Stop-Walk-Talk” Parents, if you hear your students using these words, they are following the problem behavior program at WIS! Stop-Walk-Talk teaches students how to respond if other students are engaging in problem behavior. Each classroom will (or has) been visited by one of our counselors to learn and practice how to implement the program effectively. The students are learning how to develop the tools to deal with problem behaviors and will help one another out, will get in trouble less often, feel safer at school, and will be better able to keep their focus on learning during their school day. - Mrs Karas & Mrs. Fox Page 3 Every day at Wyoming Intermediate School students work hard to improve reading and writing skills. For the last several years, we have been using the Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) to measure our progress. Each time students are tested, they receive a Lexile score. Both readers and reading material measure on the Lexile scale. Books are labeled with a Lexile indicating the reading level. Students score a Lexile which indicates what level of books they should be reading to maximize comprehension and challenge. According to National Core Curriculum Standards, our goal is for all 6th graders to be reading on a 1000 Lexile level to be at grade level for 7th grade. Congratulations to these students who have exceeded that goal by scoring 1056 or higher on the November SRI. Keep up the good work! Readers succeed! 16 new students were added to the club for a total of 78 so far. 5th Grade 6th Grade Aleena Allen Neveah Morofsky Eduardo Baez Seth DeYoung Rebecca Ohanesian Josiah Anderson Lejla Nakic Jack Ballard Benjamin Driggs Anette Ramos Logan Boukma Lizzie Ochoa Elizabeth Beams Yaneli Guevara Maira Rodriguez Emma Bussis Estella Oliver Matthew Berg Daniel Guillory Martin Romero Aiden Curtis Trenton Pauline Angelic Bolle-Leon Taylor Hannahs Ana Salvador Rileigh DeGennaro Denny Pham Elijah Budd Ila Inlay Matthew Sandoval Vanessa Falcon Chloe Ricker Onna Burger Caleb Jahncke Nathan Snyder Alexandra Garcia Victoria Rivera Brianna Bouchard-Bunnell Josiah Jahncke Olivia Small Jon Gerding Mikaya Swindall Sean Brooks Jody Johnson Josiah Springs Jacob Herrema Zachary Trepins Adrien Brownridge Brandy Kehl Clayton St. John Elyssa Jesiek Jonathan Cardoso-Martinez Nozizwe Keyi Collin St. John Nadianna King Carlo Conde Tyler Lamer Carter Strong Eileah Kloostra Kelson Dean Kamila Lopez Michelle Trieu Julie Lebednick Anastasia Depew Rayne Machuta Sawyer VanDyke Mark Mikaya Madison Dewey Nigella McConnell Elijah Viersen Marissa Menard Delaney Dexter Juan Mendez-Avalos Alex Weeks Lawrence Minnema Sam DeYoung Seaira Mikaya Andy Vo Page 4 956 Math Club Every day at Wyoming Intermediate School students work hard to improve reading and writing skills. 18 new readers have joined the 1056 Reading Club based on March Scholastic Math Inventory (SMI) results scoring a Quantile Measure of 956 or higher. Drop off/ Pick up area The parking lot in front of the building is for bus drop off only. If you are dropping your student off, or picking him/her up after school, you can stop in front of the building (on the street) or preferably, in the back of the building off Robin street. If you want to get out quickly, then you will want to check out the back parking lot as this is by far the less congested area to access. Thank you for your cooperation! Chromebooks for Kids Campaign Recently Wyoming Intermediate School started a new effort to try and put a chrome book laptop computer in hands of each student in the building. The campaign which targets local businesses seeks donations that will be used for the devices. We are trying to fund 250 chrome books. When that number is reached we will have enough to allow each student to use a chrome book for the entire year. Those donating will have their business name included to our website, as well as a sticker on the actual device. It is our hope that this advertising will benefit our partners, as our students use their devices at home and in the community. If you know of any businesses that you think might be willing to donate to this effort please let us know and we will contact them and send a donation packet. Each device cost $245.00 and this includes insurance. General Mills Box Tops Calling in absences and appointments WIS Calendar February March April Tues.
