School Based Homework Tutor - Volunteer Role
Service Overview
Youth Reach is a Special Work of Broken Bay with over 20 years of
experience in assisting young people and providing early intervention
supports. We work with community and corporate partners to achieve
sustainable outcomes for people accessing the service.
Our primary focus is on young people who are at risk of homelessness,
disengaging from the community or are at risk of social or financial
disadvantage.
Why we need you
To assist in proving supports to young people in primary school and an
after-school activities club. Must have good spoken and written English
skills.
What you will be
doing
Volunteers will work one on one or small groups of children with assistance
from Youth Reach staff, with general activities, completing homework,
communication and other support.
Volunteers will work towards building positive relationships with young
people
• A willingness to be punctual, reliable and flexible
• Ability to communicate well with children and young people in a positive,
supportive and co-operative manner
• Follow the Society’s policies and procedures
• Sensitivity to different political / cultural / ethnic backgrounds and a
respect for multiculturalism
• Good listening skills, empathy and patience
• Understanding and willingness to maintain Self Care

We ask for a minimum commitment of 2.5 hours a day once a week.

Volunteers are required to complete the following:
• Volunteer application form
• Service orientation and role induction are provided at the service
• Relevant training as determined by the role. However, the successful
candidates will need to have basic skills outlined above

Youth Programs.
• Good character declaration
• Code of conduct agreement
• Police check
• Working With Children’s Check
• 2 satisfactory references

Start date April 2015
Probation Period 3 months
End Date This role is open ended; however We are seeking volunteers who can offer
at least three months commitment.
