Just a reminder: You should not be carrying backpacks throughout the building. Also remember, student parking is restricted to the north lot only. Students should not be parking in front of, or behind, the building. We will begin ticketing and/or towing student vehicles that are not parked in the north lot. There will be a call out for eligible juniors for Hoosier Boys and Girls State on Wednesday, Feb 11 at 2 pm in Ms. Kaiser’s room. Juniors who received the yellow notification are all invited to attend. Boys & Girls State is a week long experience held at Trine University in June for you to learn and experience how our government runs. If you are interested in politics, history, business – you should check it out. Delegates from last year included Joel Boser, BJ Fowler, Evan Long, Isaac Ray and Hannah Roper. They will be available to answer any questions and discuss their experience. Softball conditioning and open facility begin this week for any girl not in a winter sport who plans on trying out in the spring. Softball open facility for the week of February 9th: Monday 6:00-7:30 Tuesday 7:30-9:00 Wednesday 6:00 – 7:30 Conditioning for softball is Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the fitness center after school. Boy's track practice officially starts next Monday, February 16 from 3:00-4:30. Come prepared to run outside and inside every day. Distance runners will be going outside if it is above freezing (that is 32 degrees F). You must have a physical to practice!!! Track policy parent permission slips must be turned in by the end of the first week of practice. If you have any questions or missed the call out meeting last week, see Coach Trachtman before Thursday of this week or Coach Hippensteel after Wednesday of this week. Girls track season starts Monday Feb. 16. You must have a completed sports physical and all related paperwork on file with the athletic office. There are practice calendars on Coach Jones’ office door next to the pool. Over the weekend, several band students competed in district solo and ensemble at Westfield High School. The following soloists received a gold rating: Leigh Anne Reuter, Spencer Lybrook, Jake Fulton, and Madison Byer. Guidance Announcements Denison University hosts a week-long residential summer program in creative writing . The Reynolds Young Writers Workshop will be held from June 14-21, 2015. The applicant must plan to pursue a career in the health care field (Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in a medical field such as nursing, physical therapy, lab technology, etc.) – Dentistry is not applicable. The American Legion Auxiliary Medical Post 341 awards three (3) $500 scholarships to seniors entering a medical related field. The Cicero American James Evans Legion Post 341 will award $2,000 in scholarships this year. The scholarship is in memory of Phil Kaiser – a dedicated member to the veterans organization and his community. The Joe Booker Endowed Scholarship for Limited Government and Judeo Christian Values was established to provide financial assistance to a student who believes in constitutionally-based limited government based on Judeo Christian values. This scholarship is open to seniors who reside in Indiana, with a preference given to students residing in or from Arcadia or Cicero Indiana. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA to apply for the scholarship opportunity. Please feel free to pick up scholarship information in the Guidance Office. The Biddle Memorial Foundation Scholarship honors Velma and Ken Biddle, Sheridan residents, who achieved success through hard work and shared that success through philanthropic support of their community. This is a $2,500 scholarship (renewable for a 2nd year) to a student who plans to pursue a 2 year degree at Ivy Tech Community College, demonstrates financial need, and exemplifies leadership and community involvement/service. Cicero Kiwanis will award the William Conder $2,000 scholarship to a graduating Hamilton Heights senior. Williamson $100 Scholarship will be awarded to a senior at Hamilton Heights High School who has a relative who is or was a member of an Extension Homemakers Club.
