2/22/15 - St. John the Baptist

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH
The Deacon’s Bench –
Dear Parishioners,
If you missed it last Sunday, in the back of
the church you will find additional copies of the flier about the
season of Lent. As we recall the Passion, Death and Resurrection
of our Lord, Jesus Christ, I invite you to prepare for this holy
time of the year by participating in the celebration of the Holy
Eucharist every Sunday, in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, in
the Holy Week Services, in the weekly Stations of the Cross
and the Lenten Soup Suppers. Please keep this schedule in a
convenient location for easy and quick reference.
Since the printing of the flyer of Lent, we have a change. On
Wednesdays of Lent, we will have Mass on the following
dates: February 25, March 18 and 25; whereas, on March 4
and 11, we will have a Communion Service instead of Mass.
Please be aware of those changes.
I am happy to announce that we now do have a Liturgy
Committee, and the following are the members: Gina Bishop,
chairperson; Blaise Marcucci; Ed Pagnanelli; Toby Dereck;
Garry Paglione and Garry Bosco.
Next, I would like to establish two other committees: the
Evangelization/Catechesis/Spiritual Formation Committee and
the Social Outreach/St. Vincent De Paul, Missionary Awareness
Committee. If anyone would like to volunteer for either committee,
please let me know by e-mailing me at fazzola@sjbitaliana.org.
As you have noticed, we now have new marble pedestals
holding the statues of San Francesco and Sant’ Antonio in
front of the Sanctuary; also, the two credence tables on the
Altar have marble tabletops. All these pieces of marble match
the marble of the Main Altar. All were donated by the Solazzo
Family, to whom we are very grateful for their generosity toward
embellishing our beautiful church. May God bless them.
Dio vi benedica abbondantemente,
il vostro

MASS INTENTIONS – One of the greatest acts of charity is to pray
for the living and the dead, and the greatest and most powerful prayer
we have is the Mass, since the fruits of the Mass are the very fruits
of Jesus’ redemption. Mass stipends (offerings) are $10.00 each and
there may be only one offering per Mass. All Mass intentions will be
listed in the bulletin. Please contact the Parish Office to schedule
a Mass intention or place the request in a plain envelope with the
name of the person for whom the Mass will be offered, the name
of the requestor, and the requested date and stipend. Last-minute
requests are difficult to complete.
Pilgrimage of the Holy Land – Retrace the footsteps of Our Lord
Jesus, with a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Fr. Joseph Klee, in
residence at Sacred Heart Church (Columbus), will be the chaplain
on this journey, which will include visits to Jerusalem, Bethlehem,
Nazareth, Galilee, the Via Crucis, the location of the Last Supper,
Gethsemane, the place of the Dormition, Nativity Church, and
Capernaum. Dates are August 26-September 5, 2015, and the
cost is $3,999.00 per pilgrim (Airfare and ALL-included). To
register, please contact (855) 842-8001 or (508) 340-9370. One can
also register online at www.proximotravel.com.
Face Forward $500.00 Service Awards: The Office of Vocations
for the Columbus Diocese is presenting the third annual Service
Awards. Two $500.00 awards are available to all students, grades
eight through twelve, living in the Diocese of Columbus, including
those attending public, private, and Catholic schools, as well as
home-schooled students. The criteria for award eligibility includes
parish involvement, service, and a short 300-word essay on the
importance of service and giving back to the community. The
deadline for applications is April 30, 2015. For more information and
to enter, visit www.faceforwardcolumbusblog.com/service-awards.
