Mock STAAR testing
The second Mock STAAR of the year will be administered next week on the following days from 8am to 2pm:
•February 24th:
Freshmen: English I
Sophomores: English II
Juniors: US History

Freshmen: Algebra I

Students are expected to bring #2 pencils. Testing will end at2pm and all students will follow their regular
4th block schedule. Rosters and room changes will be posted at several locations on Monday.
No visitors will be accepted to school during lunch hours.
2014 Federal Report Card
The U.S. Department of Education requires a report card to be disseminated annually to include specific district
and campus-level data for Texas public schools. Federal Report Card for our campus is available on our school
web site. Hard copies of the report are also available at front office.
Cafeteria News
We would like to inform all students and parents that students who have a negative lunch balance WILL BE
DENIED lunch in the cafeteria. It is the parent’s responsibility to check the balance and make payments
accordingly. Students will not be given warnings for nonpayment. Every student and parent can easily check
their lunch balance online. Please make sure that your child has always enough money in their lunch account.
Free and Reduced Lunch forms are still available at the front office. STUDENTS should not come through the
lunch line if they have a negative balance.
SUMMER PROGRAMS
Make your summer count; going off to a summer program can make a huge difference in college admission
decisions. Universities are no longer interested in just academics, they want complete students who are involved
in their community. What will make you stand out from the other 10,000 applicants? Experience college life
and gain credits in a summer pre-college program, get an internship with a company like Bank of America, or
get paid doing research at a university. Please see below attachments for more information.
Harmony Campuses Now Accepting Applications for the 2015-16 School Year!
Applications available online and at campuses from January 10, 2015 until March 15, 2015
Harmony Public Schools' 43 campuses across the state are now accepting applications for admission through
March 15, 2015. Applications can be submitted in person at the campus of your choice, or online. You may
apply to as many campuses as you'd like, but you must submit an application at each campus. A list of
campuses, their locations and websites can be found at Harmony Schools' List. HPS is an open-enrollment
charter school; the only requirement for admission is that there be space available at the school. In the event
there are more applicants than there are more available spaces, a lottery is held to determine who is admitted.

ISWEEEP

Houston, Texas. What is ISWEEEP?
ISWEEEP, The International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, and Environment) Project, is a science
fair competition and exhibition. It is the largest science fair event of its kind world-wide. I-SWEEEP is
organized by Harmony Public Schools a K-12 public charter school system, with the support of leaders in the
industry and higher education institutions. Competition is open to high school students from around the globe.
I-SWEEEP works with local, national, and international science fair organizations to bring together top-ranking
participants with qualifying projects from their own competitions. Approximately 500 young talents from more
than 40 states and 70 countries across the globe, gather eagerly in Houston, the energy capital of the world. The
tentative schedule can be viewed here. You can also find the dates and times for the competition including the
opening ceremony, public visit hours, and award ceremony dates and times. If you have an engineering or
research background please consider serving as a judge to evaluate the top quality research projects submitted
by high school students from around the world. Prospective judges please visit our school website for more

Class of 2015 Graduation Dates and Fees
The administration and staff of Harmony School of Advancement are looking forward to celebrating the many
and varied accomplishments of the graduating class of 2015. In order to allow families and friends to make
plans for such a special occasion, please see the below information regarding dates and fees specifically related
to the graduation ceremony.

The above graduation fee includes the following items:

Graduation Announcements
Graduation announcements can also be purchased through the company providing the caps and gowns. More
information, including the design of the announcements, will be provided at a later date. The approximate cost
for graduation announcements is $30-$40 and is NOT included in the costs detailed above.
Any questions or concerns about the graduation cost should be discussed with Ms. Stadelman in room 105 or
Mrs. Richters in room 413 at the student’s earliest possible convenience.
Delete Cancer Walk
Community Service Opportunity!
Students will receive 3 hrs. of community service for their hard work in finding sponsors for the 2nd Annual
Delete Cancer Walk. Anyone can participation in this service opportunity! Forms for recording your sponsors
can be found in the front office. Students can also purchase their Delete Cancer shirt from the front office.

Masquerade Ball
PG-15 and PG-16 are co-hosting a Masquerade Ball Saturday, February 28th from 7:00 - 10:00 PM. Tickets
will be on sale for $25 during lunch from Tuesday, February 17th to Wednesday, February 25th. Be sure to get
them early since spaces are limited and the tickets will be $30 at the door! Get your dancing shoes ready
because this is the last school dance of the year!
Celebration of Success
Speech & Debate Team Achivements
Considering all of the road bumps that our speech and debate team has experienced, we have definitely come
quite far. Our fellow hawks have definitely proven themselves, especially at the tournament that took place at
Klein HS this past weekend. Jonathan T., Tubah S., Mitchell R., and Yasmin R. all made it to Semifinals in
their respective events. Sana K., Roma P., Judith P., and Samad T. all made it to Finals in their respective
events. Be sure to congratulate these accomplished individuals as you see them in the hallway or in class. Even
though this was indeed our last local tournament, we can still look forward to more progress at Districts. Great
job everyone!
Robotics
On Saturday January 31, 2015 7 Robotics Teams represented Harmony School of Advancement in FTC
Qualifying Tournament and 6 of them made through the finals. Three teams were the winners and three teams
were finalists. Total they got seven trophies and all six teams qualified to regional championship
Science Olympiad
Our school Science Olympiad Team did a great job in the invitational competition last Saturday, Jan. 17, at
Langham Creek High School. Among 36 teams Lucinda B. and Brandon B. got 1st place in the event of Air
Trajectory, Adam L. and Muaaz A. got 1st place in the event of Green Generation, Rohan B. and Muaaz A. got
2nd place in the event of Forensics, and Nina O. and Mason C. got 2nd place in the event of Fermi Questions.

STEM
NASA wants you to become the engineers, scientists,
researchers and innovators of tomorrow. The HAS project
offers a one-of-a-kind experience for Texas high school
students like you to jump start your future and explore the
possibilities of a Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM) related major or career.
BlueStamp Engineering is a summer program for high school
students to build projects that they are truly passionate about.
It is a 6 week program that runs four hours per day and
operates in San Francisco, NYC, Houston, and Denver. BSE
also invites guest speakers from various engineering fields
and start-up entrepreneurs to provide inspiration for a career
in technology.
Dual Credit enables a high school student to earn credit
towards high school graduation while simultaneously earning
college credit towards an associate's degree or workforce
program certificate. Dual Credit is approved and regulated by
the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
The UMHB College of Nursing will be offering a summer
camp that will provide upper level high school students the
opportunity to experience nursing school and college life at
UMHB. The summer program will include four facets:
academics, spirit and traditions of UMHB, faith and learning,
and campus life.
UTSA Engineering is offering its Engineering Summer Camp
to entering freshmen through graduating seniors. Students
who attend have the opportunity to experience engineering
through hands-on workshops, engaging academic lectures,
research lab tours, and friendly competitions.

Engineering Innovation is an exciting college-level
summer program for motivated high school students

The STEP Forward Camp is a one-week residential
engineering introduction program for rising 12th graders. The
program is limited to fifty students. Participants stay on the
University of Houston campus in a dormitory. UH
engineering students serve as camp mentors and counselors. •
The STEP Forward Camp curriculum includes: • An
introduction to the various disciplines of engineering ("What
do engineers do?") • Project-based learning (hands-on team
project competitions involving engineering design) • Site
visits to Houston-area engineering companies • Field trips •
Panel discussions by working engineers and current
engineering students • Fun at the campus sports and recreation
center
The Young Scholars Program invites high school students
from throughout the U.S. and the world to an exceptional pre-
scholars/young-scholarsprogram
college experience at the University of Maryland. Rising high
school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with outstanding
ability and promise pursue academic interests, discover career
opportunities, and earn three university credits.
The National Space Club Scholars Project is a summer intern
experience for up to 30 high school students to work with
space scientists and engineers. The purpose of this project is
to provide students with an opportunity to experience how
research and development organizations operate on a day-today basis in direct support of NASA's mission to inspire the
next generation of explorers. Participants are assigned to work
with a technical professional in a field related to the student's
stated interests and expertise.

THE CLARK
Sea Camp is a week-long residential adventure exploring the
wonders of the marine and estuarine environments for
juniors and seniors. The Program at Texas Tech University
helps the Scholars to have a hands-on practical research
experience with outstanding and experienced faculty. The
Scholars will receive a $750 tax-free stipend and room and
board. The Program includes fun activities, weekly seminars
and field trips. This Program provides opportunities for
