From The Principal . . .
Dear Parents and Friends of Henry Ford
II:
Although it is winter and the start of second semester, we are
beginning to plan for the 2015-16 school year. The tradition of
hard work and having all student’s college ready is at the
forefront of our school during the upcoming months and into
next year. Please take note of the upcoming ACT/MME
information and student scheduling for 2015-2016.
Attention Junior Parents:
If your student has not attended an ACT workshop, there is still
time. Our ACT workshop runs through February 13th – please
encourage your junior to attend. We have data from the past
seven years that shows attending even one day helps students
improve on the ACT. This is free a service we offer the students
here at Henry Ford II High School.
Juniors:
State testing is scheduled for March 3rd and March 4th. Ford
teachers will assist juniors in preparing for the ACT-MME.
Students can improve their chances of receiving a high score by
participating in additional online test prep activities to prepare
for the ACT-MME. See online resources out-lined below:

for our monthly Parent Advisory meeting. Our
meetings last about an hour. It is my opportunity
to share with you what we are doing to improve
achievement at our school.
Spring is coming, I promise.
During the afternoon of March 4 , we will have a
late arrival school day for 9th, 10th and 12th
graders. We will run 4th, 5th, and 6th hours that

that Spring Parent teacher conferences are
Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 4:30 – 7:30
p.m. Please make sure you are utilizing
PowerSchool each week to monitor your student’s
progress. If you have a concern please email/call
the teacher.
When looking for help with homework, one free
website to check out is www.khanacademy.org
This website is a good resource for students,
parents and teachers. You can look up
information to see an explanation of a topic and
do some practice work. Be sure to check it out.
One way to ensure that your student is college
ready is for him/her to take an AP class next year.
It is my expectation as Principal that every
student takes at least one AP class and sits for the
AP exam before he/she graduates from Ford. We
know that students from Ford who take an AP
class and sit for the exam are five times more
likely not only to go to college but to graduate
from college. The world that our students will
live in requires that they have an education
beyond high school. Make sure that you strongly
encourage your student to take an AP class next
year. Remember, if you sign up for an AP class,
you must stay in this class for the first semester of
the 2015-2016 school year.

Take advantage of Utica Community School’s
PaySchools to make payments on-line. PaySchools is
a system which allows you to make payments on-line
using credit card or e-checks at your convenience 24
hours a day, seven days a week.
Please consider using this service to eliminate the need

EARLY DISMISSALS AND PROPER ATTENDANCE
PROCEEDURES

1 = Early Dismissals

3 = All Day Absences
When an Early Dismissal is necessary it is recommended
that you submit a note to the office with your student before
the start of the day. Students will receive their passes at this
time. If a request is left on the attendance line, your student
must PICK UP their pass in the Main Office any time
throughout the day.
PowerSchool is now generating automated phone calls to
parents informing them of any absences for their students on
a daily basis. Please use your Parent Portal to view your
student’s attendance. If you have any concerns, email the
individual teacher directly through the staff tab of the
school’s web site: http://ford.uticak12.org or through the
PowerSchool access. If a correction is warranted, the
teacher will request one.
