Pennies for Patients fundraiser for the leukemia and lymphoma society is coming up.
Please donate to your 4th hour classes!
Since 1994, millions of dollars have been raised in pennies and other spare change by more than 10
million elementary, middle and high school students throughout the country. The funds, collected
during a three-week period, benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Everyone who participates is
a winner!
Richland School District schools will recognize National School Breakfast Week March 2-6, 2015.
Please join us in this weeklong celebration aimed at increasing awareness of the School Breakfast
Program among students and parents. There will be no charge during this week for breakfast.
Make sure your student starts the day right, with a nutritious breakfast.
The Hanford Knowledge Bowl team won a berth to the State Tournament with a victorious total of 125
points at the Regionals in Kennewick on Tuesday. Congratulations to Hinako Kawabe, Peter Li, Shanta
Katipamula, Sean Thompson, Cyrus Stephens and Patrick O'Toole!!!! The State tourney is in Arlington
the second week of March.
This week we're celebrating Scholastic Journalism Week. Check out the mini-posters in the journalism
hallway. Join us for an open house in Room 1103 on Thursday at 7 - 8 a.m. for treats and a sneak peak
at this year's yearbook.
Redefining Beauty is starting up again!
The Redefining Beauty project is to recognize that beauty comes from within.
It’s all about being comfortable in your own skin and showing your natural beauty. T- Shirts are being sold from
February 23rd through March 6th for $11.25 each. Larger size shirts will cost more as listed below. Shirts should be
paid to book keeping. See posters around the school or grab an information sheet from Jenna Fry or the book
keeping office to get all information including a picture of what the shirts will look like.

MARDI GRAS
The sophomore class council is selling tickets for Sadie's during both lunches every day this week and
next. And after school on Thursday and Friday.
$10 with ASB $12 without.
Sadie's will be March 7th from 8-11pm in the small eyrie gym.
COLLEGE PRIDE
Have you seen HHS staff wear their college shirts on Thursdays? It is all part of our AVID elective class to
promote college and career readiness skills. AVID stands for Advancement via Individual Determination.
It is a nationally known program that prepares students well for college with reading, writing, note-taking
and organization. If you are a current 9th and 10th grader and would like to learn more about AVID,
please stop by and see your counselor. Join in each Thursday and show your future college pride.

PE Makeups in the Fitness Lab
If you need help with your academic subjects or need a place to do homework, please use this
free service courtesy of the HHS Key club members. This program will continue throughout the
school year.
There will not be Key Club tutoring after school this Thursday, Feb. 26 and Friday, Feb. 27 due to
parent/teacher conferences.
SPORTS
For all girls interested in playing softball this Spring, the first day of practice is Monday March 2nd out on
the softball fields from 2:45-5:30. Be sure that you have completed the online registration, paid your fees,
and have a current physical. If you have any questions or need more information see Coach Guereca in
her room 1605.
All Girls interested in play GOLF, there will be an informational meeting in Mr. Neumayer's room 2604
after school on Wed Feb 25th.
IF you are NOT able to attend, see Mr. Neumayer before school any day this week. Practice starts March 2nd.
GOLFERS Remember, you must have all forms turned in before you will be allowed to practice.

Our Hanford Boys Basketball team finished their season with a record of 13 wins and 9 losses. We wish
to thank all that supported us this year. You are very appreciated. Congratulations to the following players
who recently were chosen All Mid-Columbia Conference: Kendall Watson/First-Team All League, Jacob
Sivonen/Second-Team All League and Brady Heid/Co-Defensive MCC Player of the Year and also allleague Honorable Mention.
FALCON FRIDAYS!!!
Every Friday is Falcon Friday!!! Purple and Gold is the color to wear. Deck yourself out in all the Purple
and Gold you can find.
CLUB INFORMATION
The Gamers Club will be held on Friday’s in Mrs. T. Smith’s Room 2205 from 1:30-3:00 PM
Gaming systems will be available for use.
Joining requires students to have an ASB membership and a turned in parental consent form.
Students looking to join can get consent forms from Mrs. Tara Smith.
The Gamer Club meeting on Friday, February 27th has been cancelled in place of a Soul Calibur
5/Pokémon tournament at Round Table Pizza on George Washington Way at 1:30PM. Be sure to come if
you're competing or want to spectate! Note that, since this tournament is off-campus, it is not sanctioned
by the school or school district.
Knitting Club will be moving from Mrs. Swanson's room to Mrs. Bell's room on Wednesdays after school.
NEW TIME: 2:30-3:30pm. No fee to participate so please join us.
Ping pong club will be meeting on Tuesday's after school at 2:30 in the falcon gym (behind the
bleachers). We will be meet for 30 minutes.
DECA club meetings are held every Wednesday in Mrs. Shively's room 1202.
Mandatory DECA Meeting Thursday, February 26th at 11am for all students attending The State
Conference. Mrs Shively's Room 1202.
Also, the Wednesday, February 25th meeting will cover roll plays and preparation for state competition.
Please plan on attending.
RECYCLE CLUB
Recycle Club meets on Fridays directly after school. It only takes half an hour of your time, and it's really
beneficial to our school. If you are interested, we meet in Mrs. Stordeur's room at 1:30PM
Parents can also help HHS Recycle Club by purchasing supplies or recycling ink cartridges at Staples.
Just give the cashier the school’s telephone number, 509-967-6500, and Recycle Club will receive credit.
So far with our credit, we have been able to purchase blue recycle containers.
Last year we recycled over 125,000 lbs of material!!
Recycle club members: Even though we're on conference schedule this Thursday and Friday, this
Thursday (2/26/15) we will be taking out the bins after school, and we will be having a meeting on Friday.
Please show up!
Engineering Club is for all students interested in Robotics, programming, circuitry, business, and
whatever other engineering activities you want to do. Students are free to come even if they have
absolutely no engineering knowledge or experience!
Engineering Club meets on Thursday nights @ 6:30 in Mrs. Stordeur’s room #2610. We learn about
robotics, programming and other cool electronics.
Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to
provide service, build character and develop leadership.
Key Club meets every Monday night @ 7:00 in the HHS Commons. Membership fee is $15.00
Knowledge Bowl meets on Wednesdays at 2:30 PM in Mr. Wilsons Room (2013). Come test your wits
and learn new information in a friendly yet competitive setting. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on
experience.
ECOLOGY CLUB
Ecology Club meets every Wednesday at 2:30 PM in Mr. Johns' classroom #2613.
It's a lot of fun if you're not afraid to get down and dirty!
It's never too late to join, so come hang out at Ecology Club
JSA stands for Junior State of America and is a nationwide organization that provides an avenue for
teens to debate and discuss government and politics. It's a great way to learn more about our government
and become a better public speaker. Come check it out!
JSA meets every other Monday in Ms. McKee’s Room #2007 @ 2:30 PM
International Club meets every Tuesday after school in Mrs. McKee's room 2007. All students welcome to
attend! Come meet the foreign exchange students and learn about different cultures!
French Club meets the first Wednesday of every month during both lunches in Madame Sant's room
We meet every Monday from 2:35 to 3:30 PM, at Mrs. Moursund's room, 1537.
SCIENCE BOWL
Science Bowl meets in Mr. Palmer's room #1610 on Tuesday’s @ 2:30
Science Bowl is this Saturday. See Mr. Palmer to get your final paperwork done by Friday to be able to
participate.
BUDDY CLUB
Buddy Club is a fun club that unites students with and without disabilities. Come to learn more of what it is
all about. There is no fee to join the club. Buddy Club held is every Friday during both lunches in Mr.
Manka's room, room 1532.
Buddy Club is a fun inclusive club for students that has different events throughout the year including:
going to the movies, having a Monster Mash, going bowling, and having a huge prom for Buddy Clubs
from high schools all over the Tri-Cities.
Attention students applying for PNNL summer internships, the application deadline has been changed to
Friday, March 6th. The PNNL employment website will be undergoing a scheduled upgrade from 5:00
PM, February 26th through March 1st. You will not be able to upload your application during that time.
Students interested in applying for Work Based Learning at Energy Northwest must attend their Job Fair
on March 12th. Stop by the Career Center for more information.
SENIOR NEWS
You've only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it
Career Center: This is a great resource for you. Watch for announcements of college representatives
who come there at lunches to talk with you. Mrs. Richardson, Career Center Director, has lists of job
opportunities and can assist with various applications you make. Additionally, if you need instructions
or help with your High School and Beyond Plan, Mrs. Richardson is your “go-to” faculty member.
Scholarships: there will be a new influx of scholarship postings this month. We also put this
information on the white boards in the counseling office. A few were added today and we will keep
adding this information as it comes in. Additionally, you can register at www.fastweb.com to learn
about possible scholarships.
College Admissions: Most of you have applied for college by now, but there is still time to meet the
deadline at EWU and CWU, two very good universities in our state.
FAFSA: If you haven’t applied for FAFSA yet, please do so immediately. You will need your taxes from
2013 if 2014 are not available. You and your parents must seek a PIN at the same site: www.fafsa.gov.
This is not optional if you intend to attend college next year. All schools base their financial aid,
scholarships, grants, etc. on the FAFSA, so it must be on file.
