Valentines Day Party A Sellout
Valentines Day party was quite a success. The Men’s Club sponsored the party and host Bob Corley, and Bill
Root, along with honorary members Maureen Corley and Carol Root, along with a host of volunteer help went
to great extremes to have a great party. There was plenty of snacks to keep the energy flowing and the dance
floor busy.

Did you know it is required that the Board be
notified if you are selling/renting or deeding your
home to a relative or friend? This is also true if you
have inherited a house. The Board should also be
notified if you have someone (aged 40 or above)
moving in with you. Accordingly, please supply the
board with a photo ID. The residents voted to change
the age limitation from 16 years to 40 years at the
October 2011 annual elections. Our condominium By
Laws address these issues on page(s) 18 A and 21 B
(1) (a) and (b). Interviews are required for new
owners; this includes anyone who has inherited a
home, as well as renters. In order to comply with
Federal rules, and maintain our senior community
status we are required to keep records on the ages of
all our residents. A resident is one who lives in the
home for more than ninety days in a calendar year.
We verify the ages of our residents by asking for
copies of driver’s licenses, or some other form of
photo identification at the time of any interview.
Speeding has become or shall I say continues to
be a major concern! Please, please, pretty please
obey the speed limit of 25 mph on all our streets. I
know 25 mph feels like you are crawling, but it is a
safer speed designed to protect us all. Tell your
visitors they must also obey the speed limit. Mainlands Unit 4 also has STOP signs. Unfortunately,
drivers tend to ignore them. They are there for a
reason. Please pay attention and observe our traffic
rules. Since we are private property, we must police
ourselves when it comes to speeding and obeying the
STOP signs.
It is said everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day,
so we wish you all only the good luck of the Irish.
Regards,
Ann DaSilva

News From The Board
This year is already getting away from me. We just
finished celebrating the “Holidays” and Valentine’s
Day has come and gone! We hope you all had a
wonderful day as you celebrated love with family and
friends. Here we are into the third month of the New
Year and ready to party once again as only the Irish
can. I’m sure St. Patrick’s Day will be a fun time
for all.
At the Homeowners’ Board meeting in January
the Board announced Jack Changnon as the newest
Board member. He will be serving as the lawn director. Pete Greenbaum tendered his resignation and
Jack will serve out his term, which is up in October
2015. Pete has volunteered to continue working with
Joyce Whittaker on interviews for new residents, and
the Board has gratefully accepted his offer. The
Board has been working on establishing bid specifications for lawn care, fertilization, weed and pest
control. The specifications will then be sent to licensed lawn and pest control providers for bids. The
current contract ends March 31, 2015.
Thanks to all you good neighbors who are
walking your dogs on a leash and picking up after
them. One more reminder, do not walk dogs in the
recreation area. It is tempting because of the open
space, but is against the rules. Pets are an important
part of families. When you are courteous about caring
for them, we all benefit. A reminder, cigarette butts
also create litter. Pick up those butts just as you do
the dog droppings.

The weather has cooled off but things were hot at
the DogtTrack outing for the Mens Club. We had
13 men and 7 wives enjoy a great lunch and a

to all for supporting the Mens Club Valentines Day

everyone had a great time. Thanks to all for helping
set up and a special thanks to Carol Root, Jayne
Fafard and Maureen Corley for all of the shopping
and preparation for the dance.Something that needs
to be said, that behind a good dance or dinner, you
will find several good women. Also, a great thanks
for all of the help breaking down and setting up
tables for the dance.I hope everyone had an enjoyable evening.
Please remember our Mens Club dance on

Women’s Club News
Unit 4 Women’s Club started the new year with a
bang. First many of our members celebrated New
Year’s Eve at a dance hosted by Social Club.
Speaking of Social Club, I had the pleasure of
presiding at the installation of officers. Leni Miller has
stepped down as president and is replacing Joe
Radaker as vice president and our own Randy Miller
is now president. Women’s Club wants to thank the
outgoing board for the gift of a new dishwasher.
Women’s Club has already made good use of it at
our luncheon.
We continued celebrating the new year at our
President’s luncheon, complete with white linens and
gold centerpieces. The food was elegant and delicious, thanks Randy, and the big bang was entertainment by “Tina Turner” in her white fringed dress.
The party continued on January 17, with an over
flow crowd of 165 at our pork chop dinner and Las
Vegas Review with impersonations by Keith Coleman
and Ruby Dee. Wow, what a night!
We enjoyed a February filled with hearts,
flowers and love . February tenth was a special
Valentine luncheon. We were treated to a soup and
salad lunch, followed by a fashion show from our
friends from Dress Barn. Five of our members served
as models. Thanks to Vicky Bessinger, Louise Fill,
Brenda Frawley, Janice Schiller and Ann Margaret
Synder. They all looked gorgeous in their outfits.
Sunday February 22, we had an all you can eat
spaghetti night. Entertainment way by the Spotlight
Dancers. They presented their brand new 2015
Showcase.
Looking ahead to March, we wish you a happy
St. Patrick’s Day. Come to the Social Club dinner
dance on March the 7, and wear green.
Our luncheon on March tenth will feature
chicken Cordon Bleu and green desserts.
Entertainment will be déjà presenting their
Broadway program.
We have had to move our card party from
March to April 18, due to a conflict with another unit.
Keep collecting raffle donations and buy tickets.
As you see we like to stay busy with lots of fun,
food and friendship.

Neighborhood Watch
ATTENTION:
CAR GUYS AND GALS!
Hi all! I hope everyone is keeping warm during our
“winter” days. There are reports of car burglaries,
mostly in St. Petersburg, but close enough for us to
be alert, all vehicles stolen were unlocked. I constantly check with the Police reports to see if there is
any activity going on in or around the Mainlands.
There has been police activity in the Mainlands for
suspicious people and strange vehicles. The local
superstore has a lot of shoplifting arrests. Don’t
forget, call the police if you see anything suspicious.
Check police reports online by going to:
http://www.pinellas-park.com/pinellas/government/departments/police/uploads
crime_Reports.html Copy and paste this link to
see what’s happening in our area. Please be aware
of scams - especially people claiming to be from the
IRS. The IRS will NOT call or email you, don’t fall
for the scammers. Never give social security numbers or other information to anyone.
Remember it is your Neighborhood Watch. Have a
delightful March!

Well, this, your Unit 4 Team, always enjoys the
“family” atmosphere we create whenever we play or
practice, and today, we brought new meaning to
“family”.Bruce Christick, next year’s Co-Captain,
planned an in-team tournament, complete with winnings, lunch and a lot of fun. Bruce planned an exciting day for all of us and we began at 10:00 o’clock in
the morning. After a thrilling morning of tough competition, including matches between husband and wife
teams of Bill and Carol Root, Dick and Judy
Harriman, we were treated to a delicious lunch of
chili, hot dogs, salads, drinks and dessert. The double
elimination tournament continued after this special
luncheon, hosted by Judy Reed and Mel Christick,
and the matches were finally concluded with an
exciting playoff between Bill Root and Judy
Harriman. They both went home winners, sharing the
proceeds.
It was the entire team who were winners, many
thanks to all the cooks, players and planners who
provided us with a day full of fun and friendship. We
are winding down our 2014-2015 season and looking
forward to the upcoming year when we can share
more time together and enjoy our time with good
friends and sharing many laughs. Come join us....you
won’t be sorry!
