Week 6
Safety Concerns
Tuesday 3rd March
* AFL Trials
It has been brought to my attention again, that some of our
children are putting themselves at risk when they either walk,
ride or scoot home in the afternoon. Our children are playing
a form of "Chasies" as they pass the entrance to the
bottleshop. Already one student has had an "incident" with a
car. We don’t want any further injuries so please, talk to your
child and remind them about being safe coming to and leaving
school.

Absences & Medication
Please take the time to read the procedures regarding
Medications at School and Student Absences further into the
Newsletter. If you have any questions please contact the
office.

Medications at School
If your child requires medication at school it must be kept in the office and
administered by staff. This includes Medications such as paracetamol,
hayfever medication and antibiotics.
Please call into the office or download the ‘Consent to Dispense Medication’
form from our website. The consent form should accompany the medication
when your child drops it into the office before school starts in the morning.
RELIGION
This is the first week of lent and the children are
being reminded that during this time we do not
have to “give up” something but we can also
“do something extra”.
Here are some ideas:
 Donate the money you would have spent on
whatever you’re fasting from.
 Volunteer to wash up!
 Spend the time you would have spent watching TV with
your family.
 Give someone a compliment every day.
 Tell someone about Jesus.
 Stop by a church on your way home each day.
 Spend the time you would have spent watching TV reading about Jesus.
 List 5 things you’re grateful for every day in a journal.
 Spend 10 minutes each night talking to the Lord about your day–thanking him for the good
and the bad, apologising for your mistakes and asking for the grace to be better the next day.
 Go to Mass.
Project Compassion
Project Compassion boxes went home last week with the children. Thank you to those children
who are contributing to these. We have one returned to school already and that is great. They
are not due back to school until the end of the term.

Working Bee This Saturday
There will be a working Bee this Saturday to top up the softfall under
the play equipment.
Grants Sawmilling have donated the product and River Street
Landscaping Supplies is going to donate the delivery.
We are extremely grateful to these local businesses for their kind
donations.
We are looking for as many people as possible to come along and
bring a shovel or rake to help level the softfall.
Children are most welcome to come a long and lend a hand.
When: Saturday 28th February
Time: 9am
School Working Bees
As many of you would know, we run regular working bees to keep the school looking spic
'n span. This year, we'd like to work on some projects that improve the school and make it
better for students and teachers alike. To do this, we're after your ideas about what could
be done through the working bees.
The bucket list so far includes things like:
- Revive the basketball courts, Renew and add more playground seating, Painting outside
areas, add more shade and Landscaping near the canteen.
If you have any ideas that could be added to this list - no matter how big or small, simple
or complex - please fill in the feedback form below or email the school with your
thoughts. All ideas will be considered and we will create a working bee roster to work
towards the ideas that we can fund.
I would like to put forward the following ideas for School Working Bees

** Student Absences **
Schools in partnerships with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular
attendance of students.
When students are away from school for any reason it is a parent/caregivers responsibility
to explain the absences of their children within 7 days from the first day of any period of
absence. If you are aware that your child will be away from school prior to the absence
advance notification is preferred.
From the beginning of 2015, family holidays are no longer considered under the
Exemption from School Procedures. If the expected absence period is 10 days or longer
you are required to complete an Application for Extended Leave - Travel form (A1). This
form can be downloaded from our website or collected from the office. Once completed
this form should be returned to the Principal. Once the Application has been accepted by
the Principal you will be issued with a Certificate for Extended Leave.
Applications for Exemption from Attendance at school (A2) forms must be completed in
advance and now cover absences due to exceptional circumstances, employment in the
entertainment industry and participation in elite arts/sporting events.

Catholic Schools Basketball Challenge
The Catholic Schools Basketball Challenge will be held in Albury this year on the 24th and
25th of October. We have found some accommodation at two motels, both of which are in
the centre of Albury. If either of these motels do not suit your requirements please feel
free to source your own accommodation.
The Quest Kiewa St Albury ph. 60580900 (family rooms available)
The Atura Dean St Albury ph. 60215366 (smaller rooms, may not suit families of
more than 4)
No rooms have been reserved so it would be advisable to book your accommodation
asap. I have spoken to a number of motels who are already booked out for this weekend.
As we have said before this weekend is all about children from Yr 3 to Yr 6 participating
and having fun with their friends and parents, having an enjoyable weekend away with
their children and other parents. To parents who have not been
involved before or who now have children in Yr 3, feel free to contact us
