ISPO 15th
WORLD CONGRESS
LYON CONVENTION CENTRE
www.ispo2015.org
Dear colleague,
Madame, Mademoiselle, Monsieur,
The biggest scientific congress ever in the field of Prosthetic and Orthotic rehabilitation
will take place in Lyon, France on June 22-25, 2015. ISPO International, supported by its
local partner ISPO France, is the organiser of this, the 15th ISPO World Congress.
Very shortly, I shall have the greatest pleasure to welcome you in Lyon!
The ISPO World Congress is a unique global interdisciplinary interactive forum
connecting many professionals. These include decision makers, orthotists, prosthetists,
doctors, orthopaedic surgeons, physical and occupational therapists, rehabilitation
engineers, bioengineers, caregivers, psychologists, users and other individuals involved
in the care of people who may benefit from prosthetics and orthotics. We all come
together to learn about the latest scientific and clinical advances, products, innovative
technologies, designs and materials in the prosthetic and orthotic rehabilitation field.
The interdisciplinary programme, featuring 4 key-note lectures, 56 symposia, 24
instructional courses, manufacturers’ workshops and a record-breaking number of
papers – to be presented in scheduled paper sessions and the poster area, offers
all participants a unique opportunity for professional development through discussion
and exchange of knowledge.
Furthermore, the parallel tradeshow, now sold out, provides a unique platform for
regional and worldwide manufacturers of prosthetics and orthotics to showcase their
products and exchange, network and get closer to their customers and users.
Educational institutions, NGOs, government and independent service providers,
rehabilitation centres from the whole world also have an opportunity to promote their
work and network with an international audience as well as to learn, share, initiate new
projects and build partnerships.
We look forward to welcoming YOU in Lyon, along with thousands
of colleagues from more than 100 countries who all share the
same interest in improving the service for all needy patients who
may benefit from prosthetic and orthotic rehabilitation care!

ISPO 15th WORLD CONGRESS • LYON, FRANCE • JUNE 22-25, 2015
The city of Lyon, as quoted by the UNESCO World Heritage List, « bears exceptional testimony to
the continuity of urban settlement over more than two millennia on a site of great commercial and
strategic significance, where cultural traditions from many parts of Europe have come together to
create a coherent and vigorous continuing community ».The tradition of welcome, exchanges and
world trade, continues with the hosting of our 15th ISPO World Congress.
Lyon appears to be the true crossroads of Europe, and a strategic place for hosting the Orthopedics
World.
LYON is also the birthplace of Nicolas ANDRY. Born in 1658, he invented the word “orthopédie”
and began to define the parameters of what would become our profession. In 1741, he published
his work in four books, with the first three making up the First Volume. The most essential for us
is “L’Orthopédie”.
More recently, Lyon is also the ISPO-France HQ, established in 1994. It is a unique experience for
all of us in the French society, to host the ISPO World Congress for the first time in its history, and
we are certainly preparing everything to make your stay unique as well! We are ready to welcome
every one of you.
Sharing, informing and training in the latest developments in prosthetics and orthotics is part of
our daily professional life. Meetings proposed by ISPO are a highlight in the working calendar, and
offer a platform for scientific exchange to take place .
Multidisciplinary respect is at the heart of our concerns. You attendees come from a variety
of professions, including: surgeons, doctors, CPOs and O&P technicians, physiotherapists,
occupational therapists, podo-orthotists, biomedical/mechanical engineers. The congress is
dedicated to them all. You have certainly subscribed to this idea and will bring your expertise to
the group. I thank you for doing so.
Everything done through the international organization, is to ensure that all participants establish
professional, technical, scientific, and economic long-lasting links.
France is inviting you… and the world!
Rendez-vous in LYON!

Assessment
Integration
Mobility
AIM phrases ISPO’s drive on broadening and advancing Prosthetic & Orthotic (P&O)
services focused on the improvement of quality of life for users of P&O devices :
• Assessment is a key concept in science, by which outcome parameters are defined, to
distinguish between the significant contributions we make and the flaws P&O services
are trapped into. Assessment is also the starting point for clinical practice in P&O.
• Integration: In order to achieve these goals, our field must open up by integrating
multidisciplinary approaches, also from those areas that are not traditionally in P&O
services’ scope. Integration of strategic efforts is also needed to enable ISPO to work
out solutions to local and global issues.
The KINEGEN.air-active 3A1800 is a polycentric knee joint with pneumatic swing phase control and
an integrated extension assist. Due to the polycentric technology, an especially large flexion angle is
achieved.
• Pneumatic swing phase control by means of the adjustable pneumatic twin-chamber
• Steplessly variable adjustment of the pneumatic extension- and flexion resistance
for a natural gait pattern
• Mechanical stance phase safety provided by polycentric technology
• Max. body weight: 125 kg / 275 lbs;
activity level (walky): 2 to 3
• Mobility: Proper assessment of the patients’ capacity can guide us on how P&O
should be applied in order to improve their day-to-day activities and eventually enhance
their quality of life.
Supporting and empowering users is ISPO’s ultimate AIM, while the ISPO World
Congress 2015 AIMs to develop, educate and strengthen the global P&O community.
In Lyon, we will interact and reflect in order to widen and enhance P&O care, bringing
our AIM closer to reality.

Because the
world isn’t flat
Congress Programme
Programme overview
The interdisciplinary programme will feature numerous symposia and instructional
courses. Papers will be presented in scheduled paper sessions and the poster area,
and a number of exhibitor workshops* providing hands-on information and guidance
will be organized throughout the four days of the congress.
The scientific programme reflects the state of the art developments and updates for
all P&O professionals. In addition to the continuous improvements that are seen in the
P&O devices itself, this year there is a new area of development - 3D or additive printing
technologies. These are extremely suited to make personally adapted devices.
The programme also has an increasing number of free paper presentations and
symposia on the fit and interphase between the P&O device itself and the functional
needs of the patient, using movement analysis techniques to define and evaluate this
relationship, which also contributes to the evidence base for P&O.
Finally there is a large number of symposia that share the impressive developments of
P&O in the non-industrialized countries.
Endolite brings you the first fully
integrated, microprocessor
controlled, knee and foot system.
Visit our stand at S07 in Forum 4-6
to see Linx in action.
Translation
Selected programme sessions including keynote speeches will be translated in French.
Visit the congress website at www.ispo2015.org for more details.
* Exhibitor workshops and displays as well as other product promotion as part of the scientific
programme do not necessarily imply endorsement of the products from ISPO.

Prevention and Disability (VIP). His responsibilities include the
promotion of community-based rehabilitation and assistive devices,

Today, Lyon still passionately cultivates a tradition of hospitality and openness and
stimulates cultural exchange.
