Wasabi Seared
Scallops
by Chef Louie Gelormini, CEC
Owner of
Fish Mongers Seafood Market & Restaurant
6 U-10 Sea Scallops
1 tablespoon Wasabi Powder
3 tablespoons Sesame Oil
Sprig of Mint for Garnish
Lightly press one side of a scallop into the wasabi powder, making sure the top of the scallop is covered in the powder, then heat your sesame oil on medium heat in a non-stick skillet. When your oil is
nice and hot, (not smoking) place your scallops wasabi powder side down, for about 1-2 mins, or
until they form a nice crust, then gently flip them over for only about a minute.
You only want them medium rare. Remove from your pan, arrange in the center of your plate, place
your sprig of mint on top. Hint: Keep your garnish in ice water to keep them perky and fresh!
Enjoy!

The Cline Home
26 Center Drive, Briarcliffe
The Shane Home
7846 San Marcello, Grande Dunes
"Southern Elegance" sums up this contemporary home, in which
despite some 6,000 square feet under roof, still manages to feel
cozy and intimate. Maybe it's the rich hues of the coffered ceilings,
the dark-stained bamboo hardwood floors, the large collection of
Lowcountry art or the comfy screened patio with massive stone fireplace -- one of four in the home. Don't miss the luxurious master
bedroom and bath, tiled in gorgeous Travertine marble, and the temperature-controlled wine cellar -- complete with wine-themed art.
La dolce vita! This elegant Italian Mediterranean has what it takes to
indulge every mood, from its spacious interior -- with 10 to 13-foot
ceilings, four bedrooms and four baths in 4,500 heated square-feet
-- to the luxurious backyard pool area, with covered lanai, cookout
cabana and outdoor shower. The state of the art kitchen includes its
own wine pantry. And when it's time to relax, head for the custombuilt "theater room" with massive flat-screen TV.
The Nardslico Home

Each spring, the Franklin G. BurroughsSimeon B. Chapin Museum’s Tour of
Homes offers a look at some of the most
glamorous and uniquely decorated homes
in the Myrtle Beach area, while serving as
the Museum’s major fundraiser. The 15th

It's hard to believe that this spacious beachfront beauty was once a
plain-Jane 1970s block-style house. While keeping its original footprint (five bedrooms, six baths and 3,800 square feet), the owners
raised the roofline to dramatically change the interior space, adding
Travertine tile floors and whitewashed ceiling planks to create a light
and airy feeling. Closets were removed to become shower "rooms."
Note the custom cabinetry, made from both new and old wood; the
staircase with dramatic octopus sculpture by local artist Robert
Sadlemire; the hand-painted wall and ceiling murals; the huge
upstairs rec room (with pool table), and the pool area at rear complete
with spa, hammocks -- and an ocean view that goes on forever.
The Pegram Home
322 Wildwood Dunes Trail, The Dunes Club
This one-story ranch was extensively remodeled in 2014 to reflect its
owners' lifestyles; its approximately 5,500 square feet include a main
house for an older couple and a separate suite for their adult daughter. Its eclectic style incorporates contemporary and traditional furnishings, antiques and family heirlooms. Animal prints on chairs and
throw pillows echo a prized zebra-skin rug in the living room;
Chinese sculptures, screens and wall panels recall the owners' foreign travel. Don't miss the antique Oriental rugs, including an
authentic Persian Heris rug; the two Audubon prints and the Chinese
silk panels in the dining room.
The Stewart Home
36 Chapin Circle, The Dunes Club
The owners' extensive collection of antiques seems right at home in
this stately Colonial, built in 1987 but modeled on a historic house
the couple happened to see -- and fall on love with -- while passing
through Winnsboro, SC. Many of the pieces are not only historic but
family heirlooms, including several exquisitely decorated secretary
desks in near-immaculate condition, an authentic Persian rug in the
dining room and a Japenese-made grandfather clock with motherof-pearl inlays. But don't miss such modern comforts as the dining
room chandelier of Murano (Italy) glass; the stained-glass window in
the master bathroom; the cozy dark-shuttered study and the inviting
sunporch with its soothing woodsy view.
The Serena Drive Home
1563 Serena Drive, Grande Dunes
Soothing waters entice throughout this luxurious 4,500- square-feet
Italian villa overlooking a shimmering golf-course water feature.
Whether it's the splashing tiered fountain in the driveway, the azure
pool and spa beckoning beyond arched windows, the circular garden tub in the marbled master bath or the spacious pond views, this
home whispers, "Water." Rich woods abound in the tray ceilings,
arched doors, exquisite cabinetry, detailed master closet and elaborate furnishings -- the four-poster beds covered in brocades are fit
for royalty! Be sure to take in the elegant chandeliers and lighting
throughout, and note the extras in the second kitchen for outdoor
dining, including a dishwasher and wine cooler.
The Luncheon Buffet
In addition to a feast for the eyes, the day also offers a feast
for the taste buds with a luncheon buffet - served along with an
ocean view - at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

A traveling pictorial exhibit from McKissick Museum of the University

Sandy Island, SC, one of three Gullah Geechee communities that
remain accessible only by boat. The photographic collection, created in 1997, offers new interpretive text and historical artifacts that
present an “insider’s” unromantic view of a place and people seldom
seen. It portrays the interconnectedness of culture, the value of
work, a sense of stewardship of the land, and the symbiotic relation
between the long time black and white cultures.
Join the zoo keepers for a fun and interactive day with our playful
River Otters. There will be craft tables with color sheets, word finds,
masks, and more. Storybook reading and an Otter Birthday Party

Tim Johnston
(Descent) at Inlet Affairs
Tim Johnston is the author of the novel
Descent, the story collection Irish Girl, and
the novel Never So Green. Published in
2009, the stories of Irish Girl won an O.
Henry Prize, the New Letters Award for
Writers, and the Gival Press Short Story
Award, while the collection itself won the
2009 Katherine Anne Porter Prize in Short
Fiction. His new novel, Descent, combining a great story and beautiful writing, is
the story of a family undone by the disappearance of a daughter who went out for
a morning run and didn’t come back, is
stunning in its emotional impact – a compulsively readable page-turner with a strong literary sensibility. The
girl’s vanishing – on a sunny, late-summer vacation morning – all the
more devastating for its mystery, is the beginning of the family’s harrowing journey down increasingly divergent and solitary paths, until
all that continues to bind them to each other are the questions they
can never bring themselves to ask: At what point does a family stop
searching? At what point does a girl stop fighting for her life?
March 13
Tom Poland
(Classic Carolina Road Trips)
at Prestwick Country Club, Surfside Beach
While cachet comes with saying you’ve
traveled to Venice, Paris and other fashionable venues, it’s surprising how many
historic places are within driving range. In
the course of writing seven books about
South Carolina, Poland has been to spots
and secret places with appeal all their
own, and learned that you don’t have to
go abroad to experience marvelous
places nor do you need to flock to the
clichéd “must see” venues. Rustic beauty,
natural areas, history, and interesting
sights and places surround the Midlands.

The ninth return engagement by the everengaging Bill Noel and his popular Folly
Beach Mystery series. This one finds
Chris Landrum enjoying an early-morning
walk on the small island that he calls
home until a stranger joins him. A car barrels toward them, slams the stranger into
the hereafter, and throws Chris’s peaceful
life of retirement into a tailspin. The police
say the death is a tragic accident but
Chris knows better. His suspicion is reinforced when a second man is murdered
just hours later. The only thing the victims
had in common was First Light, Folly
Beach’s newest place of worship, a church that meets on the beach,
ministers to nontraditional churchgoers, and is led by Preacher Burl
Ives Costello.

The Rice Museum
Georgetown, SC
The Rice Museum, known locally as The Town Clock, is located in the
Old Market Building and is a prominent symbol of Georgetown County.
Through dioramas, maps, artifacts and other exhibits, visitors to the
Museum are enlightened to the history of a society dependent on the
rice crop. In 1750, George Town became the center of rice production in
the colony. By 1840, the Georgetown District (later County) produced
nearly one-half of the total rice crop of the United States. The 1850s
proved to be the most profitable decade for the rice planters. The Rice
Museum chronicles this most important American timeline and its impact
on not only South Carolina, but internationally as well.
The tour continues through the Kaminski building to the
Maritime History Museum, home of the “Browns Ferry Vessel”.
This is the oldest vessel of colonial manufacture in the United
States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Flynn’s Irish Tavern
´ failte!”
“céad mile
"A Hundred Thousand Welcomes!"
´
Located on Main Street in the Ocean Drive section of North Myrtle Beach, Flynn’s Irish Tavern is a locals favorite and a must
stop for annual and first time visitors to the Grand Strand. Just a short walk from the wide sandy beaches and first class accommodations of Ocean Drive, and a short ride from the many championship golf courses that populate the north strand. Flynn’s
is a perfect place to enjoy a pint or two after a day on the beach or the golf links.
Flynn’s is owned and operated by the Flynn Family and the authentic look
and old country feel of the establishment comes from Marty’s place of birth,
County Roscommon, Ireland. The tavern is housed in the former North
Myrtle Beach jail, in fact, the jail cells are still here and tours are given upon
request.
Pull up a chair in the tavern and enjoy the sounds of Irish music in the background while you take your pick from our menu that features traditional Irish
fare and other favorites. Freshly prepared foods are the order of the day.
Start your meal with a tasty appetizer or one of Flynn’s famous homemade
soups such as a cheesy crock of Irish Onion, traditional Irish Potato or
creamy She Crab. Select an entrée featuring delicious steaks, seafood or
chicken grilled to perfection or enjoy a Reuben (finest in the land) with Flynn’s
hand cut Irish fries. Traditional Corned beef and cabbage dinner is served
Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Top off your meal with homemade Bread
Pudding, éclair pie, chocolate bliss or banana cream pie. So sit back and
enjoy the atmosphere, cuisine and hospitality that only Flynn’s can provide.
IRISH WHISKEY
There is no better way to finish an evening at Flynn’s than to order our world
famous Irish Coffee. ”Our Secret Recipe“ Irish Coffee can be made with one
of the 31 Irish Whiskeys Flynn’s has to offer. Our personal favorite is John
Powers Gold Label Irish Coffee. But
you haven’t lived until you have tasted
a Hot Bunratty Meade while sitting on
the veranda listening to tunes from the
Old Sod. See ”Irish Spirits“ for a complete listing of our Irish selections. In
addition to our Irish selection, we also
offer a wide selection of scotch,
whisky, vodka, gin, rum, brandy, and
tequila.
FLYNN’S COLLECTION
OF IRISH WHISKEY’S
We take great pride in offering 31 different Irish whiskeys. We believe that
there is no other establishment in
America that can make this claim. We refer to our collection as ”Nectar of
the Gods.“ Flynn’s Tavern is also a proud owner of one of only 1,000
bottles of Jameson Rarest Vintage Reserve, that was shipped to
the United States.
GUINNESS & BEERS
Mardell Schuster Wins
27th Annual North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s
Day Parade & Festival T-Shirt Design Contest
Flynn’s is a wonderful place to enjoy ”The Perfect Pint,“ a 20 oz ”Imperial
Pint“ of Guinness, or a cold Harp, Bass, or Smithwicks, not to mention our
famous Black & Tan, Half & Half, Blacksmith, or a Snakebite. We also carry
a wide selection of both Domestic and Imported Draft and Bottle beers.
THE GUINNESS STORY
Mardell Schuster has been selected as the winner of the 27th Annual
North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival T-shirt
Design Contest.
In 1759, a determined young man named Arthur Guinness rode through the
gate of an old, dilapidated and ill-equipped brewery sited on a small strip of
land on Dublin’s James’ Gate. He had just signed a lease on the property for
9,000 years at £45 (Irish Pounds) per annum. His friends shook their heads
in disbelief.
The public was invited to create a t-shirt design for the 27th Annual
St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival souvenir t-shirt. Schuster will
receive a $100 Walmart gift card and her design will be printed on
the official 2015 St. Patrick’s Day souvenir t-shirt. Schuster will also
be recognized at the festival.
Throughout the city of Dublin there were about 70 small breweries. Mr.
Guinness’s newly acquired brewery was no more than average. But Arthur
was about to change all of that. He was 34 years old. He knew that the products of this teeming, almost domestic, industry were highly unsatisfactory.
Beginning in March, the souvenir t-shirts will be available for purchase at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center, 1030 Possum Trot
Road, North Myrtle Beach. The shirts will also be sold during the
March 14th parade and festival on Main Street. Supplies of the souvenir t-shirts are limited.
Today, Arthur Guinness would have been proud of St. James’s Gate. No
longer the largest (although still the largest Stout brewery) it is certainly one
of the most modern breweries. GUINNESS is now also brewed in 35 other
countries around the world, but all these overseas brews must contain a flavored extract brewed at St. James’s Gate. So the very special brewing skills
of Arthur’s brewery, remain at the heart of every one of the 10 million pints of
GUINNESS enjoyed everyday across the world.

THE TAVERN
The Bar Area of the Tavern which is seperate from the dining room is decorated with some very unique antiques, most of which were brought over from
Ireland. Also, there is an array of sports pictures such as boxing, baseball,
and football. Many are personally autographed by the stars.
Another unique feature of the Tavern is the veranda, located directly outside
the bar area. It seats about 25 people. A beautiful place to sit and enjoy a
summers evening while enjoying your favorite beverage, listening to an Irish
tune, in full view of a lovely rose garden.
