UICT offering Ugandans chance to train, excel in ICT Are you looking for a credible, premier ICT institution to acquire modern ICT knowledge and skills relevant to the fast-paced 21st Century? If so, the Uganda Institute of Information and Communications Technology (UICT) is the place for you! UICT is a public tertiary institution of learning identified by the Government of Uganda as an institute of strategic importance in the transformation of the Ugandan society through ICT training and application. Located at Plot 9-21 Port Bell Road, in Nakawa Division of Kampala, UICT is a Centre of Excellence for ICT training in the fields of communication, computer engineering, information technology, media studies and other relevant ICT courses. UICT was established by Statutory Instrument No.79 .of 2005 by the Ministry of Education and Sports as a Public Tertiary Institution. Its Governance is under the legal framework of the Public Tertiary institutions Act 2001, and the Uganda Communications Act 2013 which mandates the Uganda Communications Commission to manage and operate the Institute Accordingly, on behalf of the Government of Uganda, UCC and the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT) have developed The UICT Master Plan aimed at transforming the 1|Page Institute into a Centre of Excellence. The Master Plan aims to provide a vision and a development strategy for the Institute which will combine both human capacity development and facility planning. It will also provide the overall design, philosophy and planning framework for managing and developing the Institute, in response to stakeholder requirements on future anticipated capacity development needs, services and activities in support of desired outcomes. Recently, Mr. Ambrose Ruyooka and Dr Grace Ssekakubo were appointed as Principal and Deputy Principal respectively of UICT. Their brief is to drive UICT into a paragon ICT training centre. Their appointment underlies the aim of UICT to bridge the practical ICT skills gap by offering hands on training in the field of ICT that meets the needs of relevant stakeholders in the ICT sector and beyond. With a competent Management team and commitment from UCC, the sky is the limit for UICT.
