Mandevilletrailheadmarket.com March Newsletter Vendors of the Month Pat Mitchel Congratulations to Pat Mitchel, the market’s vendor of the month. Pat has been a regular at the market for the last five years. After retiring from Bell South in 2002, Pat found himself spending more time pursing his woodworking hobby of thirty plus years. Pat has resided in Mandeville for ten years and after visiting the market, he decided it would be a good place for him to sell his work. Before becoming a regular at the market, Pat made toys for his grandchildren and all types of wooden items for his family and friends. Pat enjoys coming to the market as he says the market keeps him active and gives him a reason to continue creating new items for his customers. Pat builds patio tables, flower box planters, herb planters, infant swings, trash bins, wooden toys and other items. Pat’s unique bee hive hanging baskets are designed to add interest to any outdoor or indoor hanging plant. Pat also enjoys working with other vendors to create items that combine their artistic work with his. Examples are the owl coaster sets and the herb planters that feature Pat’s work and the artwork of Ferris Hotard. He is also happy to work with customers to create custom pieces. From shelving to lazy susans for the table or pantry, Pat says, “bring me the dimensions and I will tell you if it can be done.” Pat spends many hours in his workshop but he also finds time to work part-time as a civilian employee at the St Tammany Sheriff’s office. Pat will quickly let you know he is not one to “watch the grass grow.” Stop by and visit with Pat and see his work under the blue tent near the fountain splash pad at the trailhead.
