We'd love to see these items make their way back to the owners. MATHCOUNTS TEAM HEADS TO STATE FINALS On Saturday, February 14, 2015, ten students represented Carmel at the Piedmont Regional MathCounts Competition at UNCC. MathCounts is a national math competition where middle schools compete in individual and team events. Carmel’s team placed third, behind Randolph and Metrolina Scholars Academy, earning them an invitation to the state Friday, 3-13-15: competition on March 20, 2015 at the North Carolina School 8:00am Chess Club Meeting of Science and Math. The Carmel four-person team consists of 6th grader, Brian Ratledge, and 8th graders Beckett Wednesday, 3-18-15: Stillman, and Luke and Ethan Foster. This is the third year that Dining Nights Out at Beckett, Luke and Ethan will participate in the state finals. Hawthorne’s Pizza Individual MathCounts participants were 6th grade Marc South Meck Registration Day Rosenthal, 7th grade Rachel Griffin and 8th graders, Paula Bravver, Kieron Leung, and Sam and George Hunter. ATHLETICS CALENDAR Wednesday, 3-18-15: 5:00pm Baseball/Soccer Game SUMMER CAMPS ATHENA’S PATH & HERO’S PURSUIT Monday, 3-16-15: 5:00pm Baseball/Soccer Game Carmel is excited to offer Athena’s Path (for girls) and Hero’s Pursuit (for boys) in summer camps again this summer. These social leadership programs teach teens the skills and processes they need to navigate the social drama of middle school. The week-long summer camps will be led by our own Mr. Plunkett and Ms. Howie. The camps will include games, activities, guest speakers and discussions that reinforce important lessons to help ease the transition to middle school. The camp is open to rising 6th graders entering Carmel and rising 7th graders in or new to Carmel. This is a great way to learn to love middle school, make new friends at Carmel and form important relationships with Carmel staff. The camp runs July 13th-17th, 9am-2pm, and costs $240. Thursday, 3-19-15: 5:00pm Track Meet LET ME RUN SPRING Let Me Run inspires boys through the power of running to be courageous enough to be themselves, to build healthy relationships, and to live an active lifestyle. All Carmel Middle School 6th - 8th grade boys are invited to join us for our great spring season! Please register at www.letmerun.org. Teams meet two days a week for seven weeks on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:30am-9:00am. Practice starts on March 24, 2015 and consists of the Unity Lap, a run, proper stretching, and a lesson from our curriculum. Topics discussed include anger management, goal setting, honesty, bullying, etc. The season ends with the Let Me Run 5k on May 16, 2015 in Huntersville. Show times are 7:00pm March 19th-21st and 2:00pm March 22nd. Tickets will be sold only at the door and are $10. Thursday (19th) and Friday (20th) will be “Future Sabres” nights. Students at any SMHS feeder school are encouraged to show their school spirit by wearing a feeder school tee shirt or sweatshirt. Guys and Dolls is a romantic comedy based on the misadventures of a group of high-rolling gamblers, dancing showgirls, and the missionary workers trying to convert them. Music and lyrics are by Frank Loesser, featuring such classics as “Luck Be A Lady” and “A Bushel and a Peck,” and the book is by Abe Burrows. Myers Park Mustangs Location: South Meck High School Saturday, March 14 2015 JV game 11:00 Varsity game 2:00 Alumni game 5:00 The South Mecklenburg baseball program is teaming up with the University City YMCA for the forth year, to raise funds for the Miracle League. The University City YMCA is serious physical and mental disabilities an opportunity to play baseball. On Saturday March 14th, the Sout h Meck Sabres baseball team will host the Myers Park Mustangs at Sabre Field. The JV teams will play at 11:00am and the Varsity teams will play at 2:00 pm. We will also have an alumni game at 5:00pm. All proceeds from these activities will be donated to The Miracle League. Last Year we raised over $20,000 with the help of a matching donation from Planet Fitness of Greater Charlotte. Unfortunately, not all families can afford for their child to participate in an organized youth sports league. The YMCA does not turn anyone away due to the inability to pay and utilizes fundraised dollars to offset the cost of league participation.
